Shimano SL-M8000 Shift Lever - Right XT I-Spec II 11-Speed
Shimano Deore XT SL-M8000 Shift Lever I-Spec II 11-speed black Shimano has made a name for itself worldwide with the Deore XT group for high-quality mountain bike shifting systems. The new shift levers also impress with innovative technologies and numerous optimizations. These include Instant Release, Multi-Release, and 2-Way Release technologies. While Instant Release allows for quicker shifting, Multi-Release enables two gear shifts at once. You can shift across multiple gears in either direction using either the main lever or the secondary lever. With 2-Way Release, the derailleur adapts to your riding style, allowing you to release the cable by pushing with your thumb or pulling with your index finger. Additionally, the advanced Vivid Index mechanism provides clear tactile feedback and improved precision. The levers are also available for classic clamp mounting and in two I-Spec variants. I-Spec II is an integrated mounting system for brake and shift levers. It uses only one clamp, resulting in approximately ten grams of weight savings.

This is a solid XT product that we added as a retrofit for flat bar conversion of a road to gravel bike. Overall this series with brakes works awesome on city/gravel/touring bike set up for my wife who does not like leaning over for the drop bars. Note, pull ratio necessitated adding a long cage xt rear derailleur which will allow a large rear cluster to be added later, so a bonus for the conversion!

I don't know about 12sp drivetrains, but 11sp is plenty for me. That being said, this shifter is of high quality and it feels like it. This was an upgrade to my SLX shifter and immediatly, you can feel that the XT is harder to push than SLX, but with more precise clicking; its a good compromise. The only down side is that there aren't too many options of attach them on Sram brake levers, but I'm doing to be making an adapter out of 1/4" aluminium plate. Can't be that hard.

I had SRAM GX for a while, but as time went on, it got harder to dial in which made indexing a nightmare.Replaced with XT derailleur and shifter and had it indexed in minutes. In comparison, the XT shifter feels like a heavy click into the next gear, whereas the GX was a smoother transition. But Shimano is so much easier to set up.Delivered super quick by Bike Tart.

An excellent shifter. 1 point better than the sram gx 11 speed. Double downshift in one push is super handy. Very snappy action which is safisfying but does not make the lever hard to operate. Attaches to brake lever for slick install. Typical adjustments for ergonomics. This windowless version is nice since the windows eventually collect moisture.
Excellent Shimano quality. I like being able to upshift two gears at once. Very crisp shifting compared to SLX. I had to get the I-Spec shifter because the clamp version was not available. Only downside is the I-spec mount doesn't allow as much position adjustment. I would prefer to move the shifter more inboard of the brake lever. Maybe I have long fingers.
This shifter has very firm positive clicks into each gear, up or down the cassette, it does take time to get use to coming from the older XT 8-9 speed stuff. Time will tell how it works on the trail, but should be great cause it is Shimano.
This is one well-built lever. Had to get it to match to my XT M8020 brakes and keep my handlebar clamps to a minimum. I'm actually more into SRAM drivetrains (still riding a gripshift on one of my bikes!), but I bought a bike recently with XT drivetrain and must say that the thumb two-gear-at-a-time shift-drop is the best sh*t ever. Why SRAM hasn't thought of this for their trigger shifters is beyond me. Shimano doing what Shimano does best in this one.
I upgraded from the SLX lever that came on my Yeti after I cracked the old one in an OTB. This one is a huge upgrade. What immediately stands out is the feel of the shifter: it's got a good size lever with a 'rough' face so your fingers don't slip. The action is clean and tight, which gives maximum control over the shifting. It's easy to jump a couple gears at a time. Adjustments are simple and accessible. And it seems to be holding up well. I did just go OTB again last week and cracked the mounting plate, but was able to order a new one for $10. I need to stop doing that. In case it's helpful, I have it paired with an XT derailleur and a chinese cassette with 500% range, and it runs like clockwork.
We all know the deal; it's pretty much SRAM or Shimano for your shifter and mech. Either way you're beholden to a huge corporation that thrives on incompatibility. That being said... I've ridden SLX, XT, NX, and GX, and I feel this is the best shifter/mech combo of the bunch. Action is perfect, crisp but low-effort, with no slop in either direction, and the textured triggers are ergonomically perfect. I use the double release much more often than I imagined I would, though it can be a bit too easy to double punch when you're going for single. Mounting and adjustment are ultra-simple and tweakable with the i-Spec - the fully hinged clamps are super convenient (especially since I use silicone grips) and the attachment is very secure. My only complaint is that the bolt ... MoreWe all know the deal; it's pretty much SRAM or Shimano for your shifter and mech. My only complaint is that the bolt mounting the shifter to the i-Spec bracket has worked loose a couple times in rough terrain. I'd recommend a drop of Loctite there once you get the position dialed in. All things considered, the combo of ergonomics, performance, and ease of maintenance gives the Shimano groups the edge for me, and I think XT is worth the extra few bucks over SLX for shifter and mech.
If you're faced with a choice between the SLX or XT 11-speed shifters, pick up the XT and thank me later. Why? Improved multi-release functionality over the SLX, which lets you grab one gear at a time or drop up to three at once. By comparison, the XT will permit a two-gear upshift or a four-gear downshift.I'm not a fan of how Shimano restricts features in order to tier its groupsets, but it's part of the game and, in this case, it's worth it.
