An Amazing pocket knife that meets all my needs!

The outrider is an amazing pocket knife that meets all of my needs, and the black colour is simply subliminal! However, some of the tools could use more lubrication, such as the Phllips screwdriver that's tucked underneath the Victorinox Scissor, it's harder to open compared to the other tools. On the other hand, the Reamer, Puncher is kinda hard to open as well, it often broke parts of my finger nail. For such a dangerous tool, you should make it slightly looser for easier open. Even though I understand you make it tighter so it doesn't flung out and hurt the user.Overall, I loved my outrider!

I recently purchased this one because although I fell in love with my trekker, it was missing something. I mulled it over for quite some time, and finally decided on this over the Hercules and I'm glad I did. This one is the perfect size and feels great in the hand, and the toolset is akin to the huntsman. I went an cut a stick and what found was, this thing has amazing cutting power. Absolutely at home in the woods, around town, and around the house. If you ( like me ) have been somewhat let down by a 91mm model before, trust me when I say this a whole other animal. Every tool on this one is useful and does it's job well. Can't recommend it enough.

Great knife with very useful accessories.

A really great Swiss army knife. This one is a bit larger than the regular product and has a locking blade. The scissors are very handy and sharp. I have even used the saw blade to cut up small trees blocking cycle paths. Be aware that this type of knife is illegal in England, and maybe other countries as well I believe it is because of the locking blade, which I find very hard to understand.

Nice upgrade from the rucksack model.
28 March 2018

I have carried a "rucksack" for over 20 years and loved it. I had looked at the outrider for the addition of scissors but was concerned that the knife would feel too thick in my hands with the extra layer so I never tried it. My rucksack was lost for a while and I thought it was gone for good so I wanted to replace it. I was sad to discover that model is discontinued so I dithered between the outrider with the extra layer or the ranger grip 79. I finally decided on the outrider because it was more familiar. Naturally I found my missing rucksack about a week after purchasing the outrider but I had already decided that I was happy with the upgrade and the extra thickness didn't really negatively effect the ergonomics of the knife but its a little large in the hand and ...Β MoreI have carried a "rucksack" for over 20 years and loved it. Excellent quality as you would expect from Victorinox and great design overall. I would give this knife a 5 star rating, however, I didn’t realise that the way in which it is designed, requires you to open the scissors before you can get the cross head screw driver out. Likewise you can not close the screw driver with the scissors already closed in the knife body. This is really quite clunky and not the simplest of actions that I would expect from Victorinox. If I had known this I would have possibly bought a different model.

Pretty Good So Far
18 October 2015

I think this knife is equipped with the most relevant tools on the market. Those tools are good enough for everyday usage: sharp, though, etc. You could make it more practical if you buy the mini screwdriver. However, ii would be perfect if it had some other features. Firstly, the blade could be serrated (optionally with one hand opening hole, but i am afraid with that it would be a little bit more uncomfortable when using other tools). Furthermore, i kinda miss the pin holes from the large models, but it would not make any differences on the structure. In last but not least, next to the scissors, it could be another layer(or a half layer). This extra layer may contain a little clip-point blade (even if it is not usual at Victorinox), so you can cut little things ...Β MoreI think this knife is equipped with the most relevant tools on the market. With the extra room there could be a thicker phillips. But all in all you can barely buy a more reasonable knife.

A great size for an every day carry knife and tool. The locking mechanism works well and it is long overdue on such a successful knife. It is one of my favorites so far. Perfection has been achieved with this one. thank you

The best collection of tools on a "pocket knife"
5 June 2021

This is my 4th victorinox. I have the trekker which is a little bare bones, the swisschamp which is an awesome collection of if you don't need a lot of knife and the farmer x alox which is my casual pocket knife and the most attractive. For me I love the outrider for the in line Phillips head, the scissors, the large locking blade and the locking screwdriver with the saw being the only tool I'll very rarely use. It came down to this and the skipper but I use the scissors 10 to 1 over the pliers. If they would replace the saw that I'll probably never use with the pliers on the outrider it would be perfect! I say this is the best tool set on a large pocket knife because I question the the size and weight of the Hercules and workchamp still counting as pocket knives ...Β MoreThis is my 4th victorinox. I like this one so much I tracked down the blue Russian variant and bought it also.

The perfect tool

I've always been impressed by the design and quality of the Swiss army knives, having had a smaller one in the past, I knew exactly which tools I used and which I didn't. The outrider looked like the perfect option and I couldn't be happier with it.I have owned it for over a year now and it has been by my side through many an adventure. I've used it for everything from cutting my nails to skinning deer. And now after the 3rd deer I feel impressed enough to write a review. The blade although harder to sharpen holds an edge very well.Stand out features for me are the larger locking blade, the amazingly good scissors, and the can opener. Not to mention the saviour bottle opener, you never know when someone is going to show up with a bottle of wine and no means to get ...Β MoreI've always been impressed by the design and quality of the Swiss army knives, having had a smaller one in the past, I knew exactly which tools I used and which I didn't. Very useful tool!

Funny thing is I actually bought this model from MEC around 15 years ago! The outrider model then did not have the philips screw driver pull out but just a big pair of scissors, I really wanted this setup of tools which is why I ended up with this. There is no problem at all with the knife. So far after this long I've taken it on all my camping trips and when I was in university up north I always carry it with me when we head out to the woods all the time. Other neighbours in my residence knew I had it and it was used to trim hockey sticks with the saw blade which is still sharp as ever today, the saw blade isn't a joke I've cut 5 hockey sticks and a christmas tree trunk with it successfully so far! That's on top of the camping usage I throw at it. The lock blade ...Β MoreFunny thing is I actually bought this model from MEC around 15 years ago! That's on top of the camping usage I throw at it. The lock blade for me was really a mandatory function when hiking out in the backwoods because the last thing you need is the blade closing in on your fingers and miles from the nearest hospital. I think I have used every tool on the knife over the years, that awl punch was even used to successfully pick a cheap door lock but lets not get into that.... Funny thing the most important item was the corkscrew when we moved to a new place we didn't have one and relied on this knife for like a dozen bottles so far! I gotta say I'm pretty happy with this model and would probably buy another one in the victorinox locking blade category if I ever lost it!Now for some cons because it's not totally perfect, back when I used to carry it alot the knife is actually pretty big for everyday carry. It actually wore a hole in my pocket so don't keep it there! If you actually carry it in your pocket and need a bigger knife often, I suggest you look at their smaller 91mm sized 2 layer thick models because these locking blade models are bulky and made for pretty heavy duty usage. If you work in an office environment and would need to carry a knife for everyday usage I would say just have a classic sd model on hand would be more than enough and you wouldn't even know it's on your until you need it. But out in the backwoods this would be my main choice!
