Platinum #3776 Century Fountain Pen - Black/Gold Broad Nib

I picked this beauty up during a Cult Pens sale and my goodness did I get a sweet deal! I have the translucent pink Lila model of the 3776 which I was meh about but when I got this pen and first wrote with it I finally understood the hype about Platinum 3776 pens. So smooth and wet and feels like a dream to write with. Needless to say, I’ve had my pink Platinum 3776 adjusted to write the same way.

6 stars. An exact Japanese Xf. Writes well on poor copy paper. Beautiful nib. Lots of value. No spring for a gold nib though. A wise purchase.

I am extremely disappointed by the Platinum 3776 Century Fountain Pen! As a loyal JetPens customer for at least three years, I can honestly say that the Platinum 3776 is the FIRST item I have bought from JetPens which has turned out to be a COMPLETE BUST.I almost get the feeling that the dollar price was for the gold plated nib ONLY. The rest of the pen seems cheaply made. For the past two mornings I have used the pen (I didn’t use the pen until a several days after it had been delivered) it has been extremely scratchy and the ink flow has not been smooth on my Kokuyo Campus notebook paper.I believe that I have found the problem: the ink cartridge actually slides away from where it is attached to the top of the nib(!). For example, my Conklins...I have Lamy Safari fountain pens in the 30 dollar price range which have *never* caused me any grief, ever. My Pilot Vanishing nib Fountain Pens and even my less expensive Pilot Fountain Pens in the 30 dollar price range perform much, much better and are a comparative dream to write with. The Platinum 3776 Century Fountain Pen is a sloppy nightmare of a pen.If I could give the Platinum 3776 Century Fountain Pen *no* stars at all - believe me, I definitely would!I recently made a once in a lifetime splurge on a Conid Stealth, which will arrive from the Conid factory in Belgium, to my door, on Monday. I can’t wait!I wonder, sadly - if, like everything else - relatively inexpensive quality in Fountain Pens will quickly become a thing of the past.

Fantastic Pen

I adore this pen. I got the fine nib and it writes with a smooth and precise line. I keep picking this pen up and it is always inked up with Noodles Black.It's classy looking, and that nib!!!! Wow.Buy one. You will never trgret it.

Good fountain pen, good delivery!

I didn't expect it because the fountain pen was cheap. But, this fountain pen is better than I thought. And the delivery is fast. It's easy to write in Japanese.

Platinum #3776 Century Soft Fine

This is my third Platinum #3776 so I do like them. It's a well made, good looking pen, and the green color is nice. The nib is definitely fine, but it's definitely not soft. I didn't expect any flex, but this doesn't really have any bounce either. I had to do a bit of smoothing on the nib, which is the first time I've ever had to work on any Japanese pen I own. I think a regular medium nib would have been a better choice in this case, but I still recommend the #3776 Century model.

Platinum 3776 Century Chenonceau White

The pen is a beauty with a fantastic Ultra Extra Fine Nib. Writing is smooth as can be and ink flow is a pleasure. These nibs are not for the heavy handed.

The conclusion first. The Platinum 3776 puts a fine line of ink on paper, almost without touching. I like the Platinum. not love it, we have come to terms. It is in the collection to stay.What I like. The cap screws on with two turns, the first 1 and 3/4 are loose and the last 1/4 turn is a smooth constant resistance. I am not tempted to torque the cap down to feel safe from the pen opening in a pocket. The fit and finish is excellent.A careful grasp is needed. The grip length is somewhat short from the flare at the nib to the beginning of the cap threads and the cap seat.The writing is smooth for an extra fine nib on smooth paper only. In fairness, the Platinum writes as smoothly as three other pens in my collection with fine nibs. In general, the wider the nib the smoother the writing.A white pen is rare, no one will mistakenly put it in their pocket thinking it was theirs. Though they will enjoy it even with feeling slightly guilty.

Superb gold nib pen for the price

This is my Goldilocks pen: not too heavy, not too light; not too scratchy, not too slippery smooth. In every way it's just right! On everything from normal printer paper to fine quality Rhodia, it gives a wonderful writing experience, with just the slightest pleasant touch of feedback--far less scratchy than many of my other fine nib pens, but not glassy smooth slipping and sliding out of control. Like I said: it's just right. I use this pen daily. Quite good value for a gold nib pen.

Very good fountain pen

A really good fountain pen. Very good quality materials and manufacture. I bought the UEF nib so it is a bit scratchy but not that bad. Very happy with the product.
