Maybelline Great Lash Mascara - Blackest Black

This mascara is a great little drugstore find, always available, affordable and it's been around since forever. NO it won't work or last as well as any of the pricier mascaras (Lancome, Dior etc) out there and the brush is super basic I won't lie. It's the formula itself that I like and that it fits in what I'm personally looking for in a mascara. I have used this a few times throughout the years in black-very black for a natural, every day look, and the past couple of weeks I've been using it almost daily. I find the formula itself to be quite wet, however, it tends to dry in pretty quickly so it does not smudge as easily when blinking. The mascara wand is rather small but applies the product generously through the lashes, and although the formula is quite buildable after a while, I have never had any clumping problems and that's most likely because I wipe off the excess from the brush before applying, otherwise you end up with too much and that's when things start to go wrong. In terms of shelf-life, it seems to last without drying too much over the months. I have picked up one of these after years and still had a decent result. All in all, this isn’t the best mascara if you are looking for lengthening or a more volumized look, however, it’s great for an everyday, quick and natural look, and so I would only recommend it for simple everyday wear.

I have loved this mascara for 10 plus years. I first used this mascara back in 2009 for a dance concert. The producers purchased some makeup that we were able to use, and this was amongst that pack. I tried it on that first day and have never gone back. Whenever I see that pink and green tube and wand, I know I can trust that my lashes will look super long, minimal clumping because of the design of the brush, and it nicely emphasizes the thickness of my lashes. They don’t look as long and thick as some false lashes but it looks really good in a natural way. I use blackest black, because it draws more attention to my eyes. Also if I start the mascara low, it adds a kind of eye liner effect without having to apply eyeliner.

I started using this mascara when I was 13 years old. This one is like a trusty old friend and I'm grateful it's still around. I have only used the waterproof version as I have blonde eyelashes and rarely go without wearing mascara (even to bed). This mascara does a really good job thickening and lengthening your lashes. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is because it may clump if you wait too long to apply your second coat. However, if you apply your second coat within a minute or so of applying your first coat you shouldn't have any problems. This mascara does not flake at all. The waterproof version does exactly what it says and will even look good the next day.

Unfortunately, it seems like it is now solely based on how many "followers" or "friends" that you have on all of the social media platforms you have connected to Influenster. So when you get more friends or followers, it doesn't update your score automatically, you have to tap on "Impact" and disconnect whichever social media that you got the increase, then reconnect it again. Ohhhh, where to even start on this particular mascara??? Okay, first off I’ll say this tube lasts freakishly long (without drying out) so it’s shelf life does not apply to the typical toss out after a couple of months rule (imo)! This mascara is actually just solid, really. No muss, no fuss, always there for you in a pinch no matter where you are and you kinda gotta love it just for that much alone! I highly recommend this mascara as a quick fix substitute if ever in an emergency, like you’re on vacation for a wedding and forgot to pack your usual mascara type of thing! This wand is particularly good for creating fullness, but not so great for volume curl… it’s also not ideal for lower lashes, but it still works fine, which is why I feel like it really is a great mascara temp stand-in if you ever need one! And it’s definitely cheap enough for literally anyone to buy, I’ve even seen it for sale in my own local Dollar Tree, just saying!

However, using it now, roughly 35 years later, it’s not so great after all.. Plus my lashes are DEFINITELY not like they used to be! All of my hair is thinning and my lashes and eyebrows are way lighter also and as a result, I’ve found that there are way better mascara products out there that make my lashes much longer and thicker. I have read many reviews and beauty article recommendations for years touting this as the ultimate holy grail. I finally took the chance to try it. Twice. On two seperate occasions, trying to convince myself operator error was the reason for the first bad experience. The second was just as bad as the first. Pros: Cheap. Colour is nice and dark Cons: very "wet". After the first stroke, my lashes (curled with eyelash curler) drooped. At the second stroke, clumping started. In an effort to smooth out the clumps, I used a 3rd stroke. It was a disaster. I took it off and had to redo my whole eye makeup application. This time, I stopped at one stroke. A few hours later, I noticed smearing at the corner of my eye. By the end of the day, smearing was more pronounced. I went to go buy the Physicians Formula mineral wear clear mascara but there was no more left so I purchased the Maybelline one. When i tried it on it was awful. The formula is super watery. Even if you dont touch it and let it dry out, it does not hold your lashes and if anything uncurled my precurled lashes. The brush is also a very awkward shape that does not allow for much product to be applied to the lashes. I usually also use my clear mascara for my lashes, and this mascara was only watery and wiuld not hold them up. I would never every recomend this product to a friend. I asked my friend ti try it on to see what she said and the first thing she asked was about how watery the formula was.
