Maybelline Great Lash Mascara Waterproof - Very Black

My lashes are long but they are super stubborn and straight. So I am always looking for a formula that will hold the curl. I normally curl my lashes before application and then I apply around 4 coats of this mascara. This mascara is very natural looking - that is why I use 4 coats. Overall, it does a great job at holding my curl. Doesn’t smudge and it comes off fairly quickly (with a little oil cleanser). The mascara is not dramatic but it’s ok because I prefer a more natural look for my day to day makeup wear.

I am pleasantly surprised and quite happy that I decided to try this classic mascara, once again, for the first time in the last 25 years! I saw it featured in a magazine and I decided to give it a try because I honestly didn't remember how it worked for me,When I last used it at the age of 16. With the first stroke of the brush, I was immediately transported back into time, back to when I was still learning how to properly use makeup, and it was a nostalgic moment. Suddenly my lashes were expertly separated, and lengthened. Their was no clumping or flaking. The brush stayed magically neat and clean. All for a few dollars!! I'd have to say that this mascara is much better than at least 65-75% of all the other mascaras I have tried over the last 25 years! Even some of the top of the line items!

This is a good mascara for a basic makeup look. It darkens your eyelashes. It doesn’t give significant volume or length. This mascara is best for a “natural†look or “no makeup†makeup. It’s not the best drugstore mascara I’ve tried but it’s decent. Maybelline actually has better mascaras than this one. I would recommend you try their other mascaras like the: lash sensational, colossal or falsies mascara. You can get this mascara at Walmart or most pharmacies/drugstores.

I’ve been using this mascara for years now! I do still use and try other mascara brands but I find that this one is a classic easy go to. If you want a mascara that makes your eyes pop that doesn’t make your lashes too over the top, this is right one for you. I carry this one in my make up bag when I want to go for a more subtle basic look. I remember my mom having this green and pink mascara tube which I liked to call the water melon mascara. When I was finally old enough to try it, it sparked my interest in make up.

Great for a natural look

This mascara provides a subtle look; a little lift and definition and darkens the end light parts of my lashes. Personally I think it's really pretty. It never budges for me even when I've been swimming. It will not give you a heavy/ glam look or really any fullness or length (although lashes do appear longer as become darker). Great for day time Summer or if you just want to look more natural. Only 4 stars as it won't last more than a year, maybe less, as it dries out quickly.

Great mascara

This Maybelline New York Great Lash Big® Mascara is one of the must have mascaras. I initially bought this because it was on sale, after using this I was super excited. It doesn’t clump at all and can be easily removed with a eye make remover. I love how pigment it is. It makes my lash look long and thicker. I absolutely love this. I still use this. Highly recommend this Maybelline New York Great Lash Big® Mascara. Such a great product at a very low price. Love how long my lashes look with this.

One of the few that are really waterproof.

I've used this for many years and love that it is really waterproof and smudgeproof. I've tried more expensive brands, thinking they had to be better since they cost more, but wasn't as happy with their performance. I do miss the brown color once offered. It looks so much more natural on blonds. The brown/black is OK, but the true brown was better. I see some reviewers are expecting it to be magic- staying on until you want to easily wash it off. Ha! The easiest way I've found to remove it is with a dab of real cold cream. Rub the closed lashes between thumb and forefinger with the cold cream. Tissue off. Then soap and water, as you wash the rest of your face. Simple and efficient.

Too hard to remove

Since product is impossible to remove with home products of baby or mineral oil, and soap, it breaks my eyelashes off trying to remove the product and, I still end up wearing part of the product to bed at night. This further contributes to the eyelash breakage. And, I don't like wearing my mascara to bed every night. Yes, I know companies make special products to take mascara off. But, I do not want the extra expense, and shouldn't have to. I want to use my money to purchase more beautifying products, not use it to take off a product. I want mascara to be removable with mineral or baby oil and then use soap and water to remove the residue and oil. And, I don't want to have to rub too hard and stretch my delicate eye area in order to remove it. I like that this product smudges very little if I do decide to wear it all night, on occasion.I don't care for the way the spiral brush is made. The bristle hairs on the continuous "spiral" are so close together that the lashes can't be separated by the bristle hairs and, the distance on the spiral "row" is too far apart, causing the lashes to clump together making them look unnatural. I like spirals that have the individual bristle hairs separated enough for the eyelashes to be able to glide in between the bristle hairs but close enough together to coat each eyelash hair.The length of the bristle hairs on the spiral are perfect and, I do like hairs and, hate the wider plastic filaments and nubs some mascaras are using.Please make a waterproof mascara formula that is removable with a cotton ball soaked in oil followed by soap and water. (I also love the blue, green, and brown mascaras madespecifically for those color of eyes. I have blue eyes but use all three.)Thank youMs. B.

Why can't I find the right Great Lash product

I've wore this brand of Maybelline for YEARS. High school, Dating, Wedding, Baby Shower, PTA Meetings, Social Functions, Funerals you name it. It's been there in my corner for all the happy and sad tears. I was a Great Lash Waterproof Very Black Girl faithfully. I happened once last year upon the same product with a curved wand. WOW I loved it. I can't find it waterproof and curved wand anywhere now. WHY?

terrible, never buying it again

I went to go buy the Physicians Formula mineral wear clear mascara but there was no more left so I purchased the Maybelline one. When i tried it on it was awful. The formula is super watery. Even if you dont touch it and let it dry out, it does not hold your lashes and if anything uncurled my precurled lashes. The brush is also a very awkward shape that does not allow for much product to be applied to the lashes. I usually also use my clear mascara for my lashes, and this mascara was only watery and wiuld not hold them up. I would never every recomend this product to a friend. I asked my friend ti try it on to see what she said and the first thing she asked was about how watery the formula was.
