Guerlain Shalimar Women's Eau de Cologne, Size: 2.5oz
Shalimar was created by Jacques Guerlain in 1925, as a tribute to the legendary love story between Emperor SHAHJAHAN and his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Before he became emperor his name was Prince Khurram. According to the legend, twenty- year-old Prince Khurram met a young girl, named Arjumand Banu at the bazaar where her family worked. Mesmerized by her beauty, after becoming emperor, he made her his wife as Mumtaz Mahal, meaning the Jewel of the Palace. After the wedding ,the prince and Mumtaz were inseparable, in war and in peace. She had given 13 children to Shahjahan and died during the birth of their 14th child at the age of 39. Her death devastated Shah Jahan and had built Taj Mahal in memory of his wife and their undying love. Shalimar is named after ðThe Gardens of Shalimarð.It was Mumtazðs favorite garden. Shalimar is one of the best selling perfumes ever and its magic is undeniable. Perfume is composed of citrus notes; lemon and bergamot, jasmine, may rose, opoponax, Tonka bean, vanilla, iris, Peru balsam and gray amber. Coolness of the citrus notes leads to floral heart ending with a warm and luxurious trail.

SHALIMAR is a very distinct fragrance. People who have not yet experienced Shalimar feel as though they know this fragrance. That feeling is a result of the combination of base extracts, precious oils and the touch of the parfum fairies working overtime to bring us this marvelous unique fragrance. Shalimar is one of maybe 3 - 4 fragrances that appeal to nearly every woman. A very sensual experience wearing Shalimar, and a very sensual experience enjoying it on someone else. Men are naturally drawn to the deep sensual multi layered blend that says, pure feminity. That's SHALIMAR.!!!

I have smelled Shalimar on women for many years now but have never tried it until now. I don't recall every purchasing anything like it before. It is floral, yet spicy and reminds me of a trip I took to India about 10 years back. It also has an earthy, woodsy undertone. It is an exotic scent. It is beautiful with the opening and middle notes. However, the dry down doesn't last on my skin or clothes for more than three hours or so. I ordered the cologne, but I am going to order the parfum because it has more concentrated oils and may last longer. I love the exotic smell enough to pay for the parfum and the body lotion.

I find that there are 3 very distinct phases of Shalimar on my skin and I have seen reviews saying the same thing. I am not familiar with the language that fragrance enthusiasts use so I will just do my best to describe it. The initial phase is citrusy and kind of chemical, not a fan of this phase but it's still beautiful. It then evolves into something powdery and spicy, the "old lady" vibe but very sophisticated and expensive. The incense tends to come out more when my skin is moisturized with aquaphor. Then the last and my favourite phase, the drydown that smells like the most heavenly lemon meringue pie. Sometimes it smells like hot chocolate with marshmallows and cinnamon on other days. I don't get alot of the floral notes but maybe that's just me. Overall a ... MoreI find that there are 3 very distinct phases of Shalimar on my skin and I have seen reviews saying the same thing. My mother wore Shalimar. Her grandmother wore it in the 1920s and was a rebel who rouged her knees and wore flapper dresses. This fragrance will be 100 in 2025 and it has aged well. It opens very powdery, almost juvenile, but that is because Shalimar has shaped the way Western noses process smell, not because it is a babyish fragrance. Shalimar dries down to a complex, feminine, sexy base that never goes out of style. The top notes were completely new 100 years ago but are no longer. This fragrance can be worn by anyone from teen to very old. It is timeless. Chances are the smell will remind you of someone. If that person is cool, you will love Shalimar. If that person is a fuddy duddy, you will think of it as "old lady smell." But this next generation is realizing ... MoreMy mother wore Shalimar. If that person is a fuddy duddy, you will think of it as "old lady smell." But this next generation is realizing that old things can be good and that originality for originality's sake isn't always better than a classic that was well-conceived. I think Shalimar will find a new audience in the new century and endure long after we are all dust.
I was in my early 40s when I first tried Shalimar. it was a birthday gift from my husband and I must say- I loved it! I wore it every time I wore perfume. However at one stage I found it very hard to buy Shalimar- it was just so scarce to find. I now have another bottle- a Christmas gift waiting to be opened. Love this Guerlain classic- spicy and earthy at the same time. It may not be for everyone- but that is the nature of fragrance- it suits certain people and I am one of them. I am in my early 70s now and I can say it is still one of my favourite fragrances, still. (I also love the very rare and expensive Balenciaga Le Dix, Chanel no 5 and Paola Picasso fragrance, too.)
Thierry Wasser is a genius! How subtly you need to feel the world in order to create such masterpieces. The main and main note, in my humble opinion, is iris. Or rather, a LOT of irises planted in damp, freshly dug up earth just a couple of minutes ago. An incredible combination - bitterness and sweetness of irises, dense, thick and fresh earth. The head is spinning - not to breathe, how beautiful it is! The train is dense and tangible, fills the entire space. Pure poison if you don't calculate the dosage. Repeatedly faced with the fact that others tolerate it more often than enjoy it. Guerlain vanilla permeates everything around and does not leave the skin for a long time. On scarves and fur, even after a couple of weeks, I catch the native, favorite notes of Shalimar.
Guerlain is the only brand of perfume I can blind buy. I got this at a duty free store while we were flying back home from Mirocco vacation after trying for years to find in the US back in 2017. This perfume is something I will save for my next generation. I use it very sparingly and less us more with this perfume. It’s a clean sophisticated perfume which lasts 6 plus hours and it gets along really well with my body chemistry. This perfume is definitely not for all. The initial spray comes out strong and the then it starts shining through after half an hour or so. You can smell it for days on clothes. A classic vanilla with notes of citrus and incense. The vetiver, sandalwood from the dry down smell warm and comforting.
Guerlain Shalimar is a classic old world fragrance invented in 1921. It has notes of bergamot, tonka bean, jasmine and vanilla. I get an Oriental vibe from this perfume and it lasts for at least 8 hours. I feel like a glamorous movie star while wearing Shalimar. I would recommend this scent to women 35 and up. It's a masterpiece for a reason.
This is the THIRD bottle I bought from different vendors. I THREW ALL 3 in the garbage! I used this for many years as a signature scent that I enjoyed wearing. I constantly received lots of compliments, especially from my husband. I am so disappointed trying to find this special scent. They are knock offs that dont even come a little close to the original. Tired of throwing my money away! Will have to find a whole new scent. What a shame!
I've worn this scent for many years and now Guerlain has discontinued it tho I've heard rumors that they might bring it back. Now the only place I could find the cologne (perfume and toilet water available but I don't like them) is on line and for triple the price. So I use it more sparingly and am just glad I could find it available someplace. It's the only scent I use.
