I'd been looking for a smaller sized moderately priced guitar with good acoustic sound for a while. I've found what I've been looking for in this baby. It's easily worth 3x as much. The good looks is a bonus. Passive built in pickup works great with my outboard baggs gigpro. Though small width wise, the depth of the body allows this guitar to have a rich balanced and beautiful sounding voice. Love everything about this guitar, thanks Yamaha and MF!

As with all guitars, a good setup is worth the trouble. All Yamaha guitars need the saddle shaved down a bit and replaced with bone. The Strings are a bit on the heavy side but once Custom Lights were put on... Perfection. You might have to have the Nut filed a bit as well. The finish is A1. The size is perfect for practice , around the house and on trips outdoors. It holds its tone forever. Besides the Saddle, Nut and pins being plastic (not bone) the only other negative would be the beefyness of the neck. I love the 1 3/4" neck but it is a little chunky to the feel. If the neck were like a Taylor... It would be Great.I played many guitars worth thousands more nad always came back to this one. It is truly remarkable.I did sell the guitar recently, thinking I would go for an all solid wood one. But I find myself now on the hunt for another LS6. Worth every penny and then some.Of all the L series, this is by far the best bang for the buck.Great Job.

Aw some guitar. Looks beautiful. Sounds beautiful. Plays wonderful. Has a nice bell chime ring with the highs with complementing full but not boomy lows. This guitar shines the most as a light playing or fingerpicking guitar. Still great for strumming chords but I love the ring when fingerpicking. Inside the guitar has perfectly cut and sanded bracing. Looks and feels and sounds like a top of the line guitar

Excellent guitar!

Didn't really need another guitar but picked this up at a local shop and was really surprised by the tone. Great note articulation (the mahogany back and sides) and responds well to a light touch or a heavier hand. I flat pick and this guitar sounds great under the plectrum. Got it to carry around in the car, etc. Now I like it so much, I'm rethinking the car part (but will carry it anyway, a great guitar to have accessible). The quality of construction belies the low price. I have Martins, Gibsons, Taylors, and a Breedlove. This guitar sits well in that company. I just sold a Takamine EAN60C and am going to use the money to buy the LS16R. I'm sold on the L-series!The case was clearly for a dreadnought. The retailer insisted this was the correct case, maybe the ARE series is so new they are shipping without the correct cases yet. Somehow, though, I suspect this was the retailer's fault. Regardless, this guitar went into a well-padded gig bag and the case was used to house a case-less dreadnought. All good! Oh, and as for the gift part? My lovely wife picked up the tab for our anniversary!

Great value at sale price

Early days but I'm enjoying this guitar so far, noticeably more resonant and louder than my faith venus. Comes with good quality solid case. Looks nice and no electronics visible. For the price I paid, for all solid wood guitar this seemed a bargain. intonation up the fretboard seems good and consistent

I returned this guitar
3 April 2024

I love Yamaha's but rookies don't have a clue. They think Yamaha can do no wrong. They are very much mistaken with the chinese made yamaha's ! (Japanese made are usually fine) I returned this guitar to GC because the neck was the worst I've seen in 30 years. Some frets were close to .015 high....I don't think they leveled them or the fingerboard at the factory. I bought a LL16 from the same GC....I knew it had a high action but the guitar had the sound of a 5K dollar guitar so I bought it....I only did that because I could refret it myself and it cost me 25.00. It had a hump at the 14th fret....I refretted with stainless frets and it's a monster but!!! It would have cost you about 600.00 to fix it!

Incredible luck - I found this LS6M

It's hard to believe how lucky I was to find this guitar (I named her "Sweet Potato" because of the Yam on Yamaha). I will never part with this guitar. It's perfect. Thank you Yamaha.

Overall a very good value. Guitar did need some set up work . The sound is good with plenty of sustain. Pick up system was balanced out the box. After guitar was set up it is very easy to play and conforms to your body nicely.

Wow, what a great guitar!
17 November 2013

This guitar has to be one of the best kept secrets around. They are normally not on display in guitar stores in my city, but I happened to play a used one and was blown away! I immediately ordered myself a new one. The sound is fantastic, and very full for a small guitar. The finish is flawless, and the size makes it perfect for "couch playing". The action came a little high for my tastes, but that was easily remedied. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.

You MUST buy the setup!
9 September 2024

I play fingerstyle and this is THE most comfortable, beautiful sounding, easy to play guitar I've owned. I played one in a shop before purchasing and I felt good about it because I was in the market for a small, inexpensive acoustic with a pickup. Since I was coming in under budget with this one, I decided to splurge on the sweetwater setup w/ bone nut install. I'm still blown away by how good it feels and sounds, and how much of a difference a setup can make on a quality instrument like this. The LS6M may be made in China and cost half/third of the price of an LL series, but if you invest a little bit into the guitar (bone nut, setup, strap buttons, etc.) you have an instrument that sounds and plays better than many more expensive brands. I'm a bit biased as this ... MoreI play fingerstyle and this is THE most comfortable, beautiful sounding, easy to play guitar I've owned.
