Early morning runs made easier by a great shoe!

This is my second pair of Speedcross 6, but my first time buying a Gortex running shoe. I train on trails in the early mornings, typically passing through quite a bit of high wet grass and shrubs and finally decided that enjoying dry feet on those runs was worth whatever I might have to compromise in ventilation. It was a good call! A month later I still get gitty at the feeling of dry socks when I know they should be soaked. The heat buildup is not an issue really, at least when the environment is properly matched. I did wear them on a travel day for lack of having another clean pair of kicks and they were too sweaty, but it was out of context and I definitely don't fault the shoes. I also really like the look. The colors are great and they hide their dirtiness well, which my last pair (light green) definitely did not do!Having a pair of shoes that I like generally boosts my motivation in those dark hours of the morning when my subconscious mind is scanning for an excuse to not head out on the run. Everything helps!I'm looking forward to some marathon length trail events with them later this year.

And the Speedcross is exceptionally lightweight. But here's the bad. These shoes are advertised as 'waterproof breathable' and with 'excellent grip.' The fit for these shoes are perfect for me.Basketball also beat up my ankles as a young guy, so my winter hikes also see me wearing a pair of Salomon Cross Hike 2's with their mid boot design to prevent ankle sprains when I'm hiking more steep rocky bits and less trail terrain and want the boot height and stiffer torsion sole but a very similar sole that stands up, grips well and again mud and dust wash right off with all synthetic materials.I have fussy feet and Salomon has given me happy feet again and makes it easy to get the steps and stay really active!

Grippy!
22 February 2024

I took these shoes to Kauai recently and they held up great. I did a lot of hiking on various terrains, including mud and volcanic rock. In muddy terrain they did well, they didn’t slip off my foot and they were easy to clean off. On packed dirt, they were nice and grippy even while slightly damp- I half expected to start slipping on the looser areas of dirt like gravel on an incline, these shoes gripped the ground well. On the volcanic rock, they endured lots of nooks and crannies, sharp edges. For me, that was the real test because volcanic rock can be very sharp and would easily shred up a cheaper made shoe, especially the outsole and tip. When I got home, I left them outside for the night to dry and by morning they were only slightly damp, I put them on anyway and they felt fine even with the slight dampness. No funky smell from the water exposure. The shoes were also very comfortable right out of the box, no breaking in or stretching was necessary. I would buy these again in a heartbeat! Awesome, durable shoes!

Converted to a Salomon wearer! My husband and I love to hike and with every shoe I’ve bought I’ve always had issues with traction. So when looking for a shoe, knowing that I was going to tackle the trails in Kauai, I needed something that was suitable for all the elements, specifically mud. These shoes did not disappoint! They held up in steep terrain and muddy conditions. We crossed rivers, and even went swimming at the bottom of a waterfall. I was especially pleased that there were no hotspots.I typically wear a size 7 1/2 and found that the shoes were a little bit roomy. If I would’ve had time before our trip, I would have purchased a size 7 just for comparison.Little did I know that my husband also purchased a pair of Salomons before our trip. Love The Brand!!!

Love the Speed Cross......My Salomon Story - Following many years of baseball/softball - I ended up with plantar fasciitis, to the extent that I stopped playing both sports. While at work, after sitting down for 15 minutes, it would take at least 50 steps to feel somewhat comfortable walking again - not to mention the pain following a full nights sleep and taking that first step. I "happed" across my first pair of Salomon shoes at Cabellas. I had tried on the Adidas trail shoe and the Salomon - the Salomon shoe was on sale and felt 100% right. I went with the Salomon, within two weeks time, I no longer had an issue with the plantar fasciitis. I even "ditched" my golf shoes and only wear a pair of Salomon trail shoes on the course in lieu of a traditional golf shoe. Since my initial entry into the Salomon shoe line, I have purchased the winter Gortex line (both trail and boot), multiple Speed Cross (including Speed Cross and Speed Cross Gortex), Alpha Cross as well as the Pulsar. Loving this brand - Last Christmas, I purchased for my wife the Speed Cross 5, Predict Hike (Gore Tex) and the Cross Hike Mid (Gor Tex). Now she is hooked on the Salomon brand as well! I know this product well and can tell you the benefit it there!

My favorite trail shoes of all time
22 September 2024

I have been buying Speedcross sneakers for years, and this version continues to be amazing across the board. I use them every day in the summer on rough, steep trails. I also have a non-waterproof pair I wear when I go to work or anyplace other than the woods. Please never stop making these.- Fit: wide toe box doesn’t cramp my feet, but the heel fits so that it doesn’t rub on the back of my heel like most shoes. The way the shoe is tied allows me to adjust fit for different terrain.- Grip and sole: these shoes are great on the slippery rocks and roots that make up most of my time in the woods. The midsole is stiff, providing protection, but the toe flexes easily and is thin enough so I can feel the ground.- Waterproofing: I replaced my last pair because they ... MoreI have been buying Speedcross sneakers for years, and this version continues to be amazing across the board. Perfect Nursing Shoe
19 July 2024

I first came across the Speedcross 5 shoe at Winners and loved the colour, the comfort, and the waterproofing, they quickly became my favourite, wear everywhere, shoe. I had to get a pair for work, so I ordered these online direct from Solomon. I'm a nurse who is on her feet all day and despite these shoes being for trail running, they are perfect for nursing too. They're slip resistant, "water" proof, super comfortable, and I love how they look. I put in a Birkenstock arch support and I'm good to go for 12+ hours. The only complaint I have is that since these are for trail running, (soft forest floor, etc) the tread wears down very quickly if you wear them on pavement (which I ended up doing to my first pair because I loved them so much) So far, the hospital floors ... MoreI first came across the Speedcross 5 shoe at Winners and loved the colour, the comfort, and the waterproofing, they quickly became my favourite, wear everywhere, shoe. I wish Solomon offered more shoe styles in Gortex, but I'm happy with the Speedcross as long as they keep making them in cool colours.

Perfect fit, great support, stylish looks
16 May 2024

I was apprehensive about purchasing a pair of shoes online, especially when I would be walking in them for 9+km every day. Would the fit be right? I was pleasantly surprised to find that the fit was perfect. In addition, the shoes provided support in all the places my feet needed it most. The stylish looks were a definite bonus. And I love the lace system. I wore through the soles under the heel with other shoes I have purchased (not Salomon), but this shoe looks like it will last longer, with a thick (but lightweight) sole. On the day my shoes arrived, I immediately put them on, and wore them all day. Hours and a few km later, including mostly pavement walking, my feet still felt great. At the end of the day, my feet thanked me for making this purchase.

Really like the speedcross line …
26 December 2023

Started buying speedcross 3s, this is probably the 7th or 8th pair I have owned. Personally I think the 3s and 4s might have been a little better, but don’t get me wrong, these are fantastic shoes. Every now and then I screw up and decide to try a different brand and every time I regret not just getting the one I know I love.My one complaint is that the heel structure tends to collapse and disfigure if you try to slip them on. This usually happens to me after I have had them for many months or years, but unfortunately this has already happened to one of my most recent pair that is only a couple weeks old. Hard to believe they would design shoes this well and not reinforce that spot to prevent this, especially with the laces designed to allow them to be slipped on ... MoreStarted buying speedcross 3s, this is probably the 7th or 8th pair I have owned. I’m going to try to work out the heel issue myself today, but if I can’t, I’ll probably contact customer service and see what can be done. Hate to spend this much on a shoe that I can’t run in.
