This GriGri belays more smoothly than previous models; it's smaller and lighter and designed to work with the thinner ropes popular today. The belay device can be used with ropes between 8.9 and 11 millimeters in diameter. Its "descent control system" provides a larger sweet spot when lowering a climber or rappelling. It weighs in at 170 grams, making it an easy choice when packing for even the longest hike-to climbs.
