I've tried other respectable brands of hiking shoes over the years (e. g. Oboz, Vasque) but keep coming back to Merrell because they work great on a variety of trails and they last. My latest pair of Moab 3's are still in top condition after a year of hard use, including weekly hikes on trails which often have rocks, roots, gravel and/or mud. Traction is very good and the soles are resistant to wearing out. They've kept my feet dry through puddles, shallow streams and rain. The waterproof Moab 3's are a bit on the heavy side and they won't win any fashion awards, but they're truly excellent for hiking. I understand they're now being discontinued so I plan to buy another pair to keep in reserve.

Just received these boots and wore them on their "shakedown" hike to make sure they were as comfortable as I thought they were. They are! These may be one of the most comfortable pair of boots I've ever owned, right out of the box. I need boots with a wide toe box and narrow heel...these are perfect. I ordered my regular boot size of 7.5 and the fit is spot on. I did replace the insole with a pair of SuperFeet insoles because I need extra cushion on the ball of foot. They are super grippy and while I haven't had the chance to test the waterproofness yet, I trust that that will be perfect as well. I'm so happy with this boot I just bought a pair of the mid-rise version as well!

Merrill shoes are my favorite! They are the one brand that really seems to be designed for my biology. Unfortunately for some reason lately the higher top versions are really bothering my Achilles. So I got a low top and of course they work like a charm and let my Achilles get over whatever issue it seems to be having. The one thing I wanted to note is I got the sale color Lichen. I loved the price, but in the in-line photo the colors looked not so mountin-y. The exterior sole looked nearly white, more like a sneaker than my beloved Merrel Moabs. But I couldnāt resist the price so I bought them and just figured Iād suck up wrt the color. I was pleasantly surprised when I got them they are much darker than they look in the photo and I think they are now my favorite ...Ā MoreMerrill shoes are my favorite! Got my hubby hooked on them too.

This is my 6th pair of Merrels; 4th pair of Moabs including my high tops. Here is my honest take on the Moab 3.Traction: definitely improved, deeper. I had no problem with my Moab 2s but you can look at this tread and see the difference. That is very important to me as an older hiker.Comfort/Padding: They advertise increased padding. My 2s are still in good shape so I would call the change negligible. They are comfortable, right out of the box, but always have been. In all honesty I rarely hike more than 4-5 miles. I don't see a huge "oh my gawd i'm walking on a cloud" difference but certainly no loss of comfort. And again, being an older hiker, I can really tell the difference in my hips/knees if I switch off to another brand even for a greenway walk; especially ...Ā MoreThis is my 6th pair of Merrels; 4th pair of Moabs including my high tops. And again, being an older hiker, I can really tell the difference in my hips/knees if I switch off to another brand even for a greenway walk; especially for an asphalt greenway walk. So clearly Merrells are doing a better job at cushioning my steps and my joints whichever Moab you choose.Rubber toe protector: This is smaller now, ie less toe box coverage, and I'm guessing that change allowed them to lighten or shift the weight a bit? As someone who walks primarily on 'groomed' dirt, eg state park woodland trails, it does not bother me at all or impact protection. I cannot speak for hikers who do a lot of hiking on harsh, rough trails. May make the toebox a bit more breathable/flexible, also. No loss of waterproofing that I have noticed yet.
Bought these a week ago, after I basically wore my unlikely hikers out in the past 6 months! The Moab 3 is one of Merrellās best made hiking shoes. So much more support than the old Moabās, much beefier, comfortable right out of the box, better tread,no slipping here.I own 11 pairs of Merrell hiking shoes and I can honestly say the Moab 3 and unlikely hikers are the best. My only complaint, is you donāt have any old broads as shoe testers! You all have neglected the great old broads market. Iām 65 year old avid hiker ,averaging 30 to 50 miles a week. Since I live in Colorado, I wear your shoes everyday to hike the trails by my home, from Rocky Mt. N.P. to the Flatirons. So instead of always having a cute, young person in your ads ,you need to start putting great old ...Ā MoreBought these a week ago, after I basically wore my unlikely hikers out in the past 6 months! Received these, from Merrell, about one month ago. Never tried this brand before, and I'm happy I did. Went with my usual size of 9 1/2 W, which fit perfectly & was absolutely comfortable right out of the box, with no break-in period needed. I have a high instep & the padded tongue worked well; the heels weren't tight or loose; laces stayed tied, and the balls of the feet were protected from the impact on concrete and gravel. If you're not used to hikers they may feel clunky at first, but you'll adjust quickly. I went with the waterproof version just because it may be needed at some point. Lastly, they are nice looking.
Although highly rated by many wearers/buyers, these shoes did not work for me. After careful shopping and trying many different hiking shoes, I wanted these to be the ārightā shoe. Sadly it is not for me. I found the sole too hard and stiff. It was clear after a couple walks on easy access trails and in different terrain, it was clear that I would not be able to wear these comfortably more than 2 miles. I need a shoe that will take me 8-10 miles in a day or longer without my feet hurting. Have returned to my trusty (well-used Keen Targhees and La Sportiva Ultra Raptor IIs. These have carried me and my feet the distances needed. Good to have these standbys.
Be aware that these run a half size too small. I scoured over the reviews and saw almost everyone said they ran true to size. They absolutely do not. I am a solid 9.5 in every shoe I own from chucks to stilettos. I had to order a half size larger.Keep in mind that if you live at an FPO/APO they will not exchange shoes for you and youāll have to send them back via USPS on your own dime. I was told they may reimburse shipping, but that itās on a case by case basis. I ended up just selling them to someone locally because Iām not taking that risk. She wears a 9 and the 9.5s fit her perfectly.Anywho, the shoes are very comfortable if you get the right size. Like, super comfortable right out of the box. Iām going to hike Mt. Fuji in them and I think theyāll work ...Ā MoreBe aware that these run a half size too small. I scoured over the reviews and saw almost everyone said they ran true to size. They absolutely do not. I was looking for a good hiking shoe for a while and after browsing online for quite a while I settled on these and boy am I glad I did. These fit comfortably right out of the box and are the perfect size. I like that they are snug and yet have room for your toes to breath. I've worn them out on hikes a few times already and they are wonderful. They held up well on the trail for hours. I absolutely love them and hope they last for a long time! My sister saw these and tried them on as well. She too fell in love and ordered herself a pair as well, though in half a size smaller as she has a slightly smaller foot then me. I definitely recommend these for anyone who's looking for a comfortable hiking shoe!
I've been wearing these every day for years, and they are the best shoes I've ever owned. I wear the ventilated ones in summer and waterproof in winter. I was born with serious overpronation and excessively high arches, requiring me to be careful about shoes for all of my 60 years. On our farm out in the country, I feel stones through the soles of tennis shoes. Moabs protect and support my feet walking on trails or working on the farm. They are wide enough for my feet to wear my correct size instead of requiring me to buy a size larger--this helps prevent my tripping problem from foot drop--most of the time. I use power step insoles instead of the ones that come with the shoes for better arch support. Generally a pair of Moabs will last 2-3 seasons, which makes them ...Ā MoreI've been wearing these every day for years, and they are the best shoes I've ever owned. The only other shoes I wear are Birkenstocks (when wearing a dress) for all the reasons above. I'll likely continue buying these until the day I die.
