Maurten - Gel 100, Single
When you’re pushing your limits, your body needs carbs to keep going. How you get those carbs is important. Traditional sports drinks release loads of sugar into your stomach, which can tax your digestive system, causing distress and potentially ruining your race. But Maurten found a way to have your carbs and eat them, too. Maurten’s Gel 100 employs the same hydrogel technology developed for its Drink Mix 160 and Drink Mix 320. The hydrogel makes it easier to digest high concentrations of carbohydrates and electrolytes by trapping them in a 3D structure, like medicine in a capsule. That structure carries the nutrients into your intestines where they are released and absorbed by your body. Like other Maurten sports drinks, Gel 100 is made with six natural ingredients and forgoes artificial colors, flavors and preservatives to give you the clean fuel your body needs during your hardest workouts. But unlike the drinks, Gel 100 delivers the 25-gram hit of carbs in a ready-to-eat formula—no mixing or measuring required. Most importantly, the fuel works: Elite athletes are using Maurten to power bids for the biggest marathons around the world.

I've been very happy with my experience with Maurten gels. Having tried other gels, I find these to be the cleanest I've used and I really like the slightly sweet taste. I tend to get tired of flavors quickly, but haven't had this experience using Maurten's gels and drinks. And a big plus for me personally has been the jello-like consistency. I wear Invisalign aligners and can't chew bars when I'm active, so the consistency of these is a perfect mix between being soft enough to consume easily and solid enough to not be a sticky mess in my mouth. I'd definitely recommend these!

If it works for Kilian and Eliud Kipchoge it will work for me, or maybe I just fell prey to Maurten's excellent marking strategy. So far I've been using both the caffeinated and noncaffeinated Maurten Gels for several months and have been happy with the results. Both gels have this slightly syrupy aftertaste to them but other than that basically have no distinct flavor, which I enjoy. With the consistency of jello, these have been a nice change of pace from the thick syrup-like texture of most other gels. Overall with just a handful of ingredients, and a good dose of caffeine Maurten Gels will most likely continue to be my go-to gels for some time to come.

Although more expensive than the other gels on the market, I think it’s worth it. My biggest issue with most gels is that they are insanely sticky and so strong in taste. It takes a lot of time for me to feel like the taste and the sticky feel can be washed down and it’s super annoying. Maurten gels have no stickiness and no taste which is exactly what I was looking for. No stomach issues and no drop off.

I tried multiple gels and do like them however get sickly after a while. These gels are a thicker consistency so find they are easily to take. The taste isnt mega sweet so isnt sickly, reminds me of a slightly sweet caramel/fudge flavour.Have used them in races and training and never had any issues at all. Also they are really easy to open to no getting covered in gel when running,
Have tried several gels before but wanted to give these a go as they get such goods reviews. Personally I really like the fairly flavourless taste - they are slightly sweet but in a pleasant way. The texture is very different from other gels I've tried but I find them much easier to take on the run due to the thicker consistency. Have only tried them on training runs so far but have had no digestive issues and they definitely help with energy levels. Lastly, I find them very easy to open on the move without getting the gel everywhere like other brands I've tried. The only slight negative is that the tab is too easy to tear off completely - manufacturers could easily adapt the packaging so that the tab doesn't break off completely thus avoiding pits of packaging ... This is no ordinary gel. I usually don't use gels, but this was a game changer for me. The consistency is like jelly food, I did feel like it made a difference in my energy levels. It doesn't leak, easy to digest. No tummy issues. The caffeine gel is also a great flavour. So now I take on these gels and on top of eating normal food on long distance runs.
I'd recommend trying as the consistency is different from most other gels. It's quite jelly like but easy to eat. Hydrogels are the only type I can take for long periods of time without gastric distress but unfortunately too thick for me and I strongly prefer other brands with a more watery consistency.Price adds up as well if consuming a lot of these
SummaryYou'd struggle to find a gel that does what you want more than this but I still think they're too expensive. Probably save these for race day.Positives+Neutral flavour+Unlikely to cause stomach issues+Great energy+Good packaging makes it easy to eatNegatives-Thicker than other gels, a bit of chewing might not be appetising for much longer runs-Expensive, if you're going to cost nearly twice as much as other gels you're going to have to be nearly twice as good and I'm not convinced these are.
Like some gels on the market they are sweet and gooey. I've been using these now several months incl their caffeine versions and I really love them once you get used to texture [ kind of like jelly ] they are great. Easily to use and digest and no sticky fingers when your putting wrapping in your rear pockets. Certainly feel improved NRG levels when I've taken a gel. Of you're not 100% with what you're using now these are certainly worth researching and using 5/5
I've been on Maurten for many years - pretty much since they started out and they've helped me from marathon - 100 miles. Great on the stomach, easy to digest/chew and never have GI issues with them at all. Saying that however, I did try the CAF gel thinking it would be the same as this and it turned my stomach so in my opinion they are different. Will be placing another order for these again soon.
