Maurten - Gel 160

I love the consistency of Maurten and how easy it is to digest during faster tempo runs on my GI tract. I have never had stomach issues while using this product. I am ready to keep pushing the pace properly, timing the intake of my Mauretn gels while running a marathon. It's super easy to hold during runs and easy to open during faster runs as well. I'm a massive fan of the CAF gel & the non-caffeinated hydrogel sports fuel. I alternated between the two while breaking three hours running the 20223 Chicago marathon! The mixture worked so well for me! I'm grateful to have such a great product!

I've been very happy with my experience with Maurten gels. Having tried other gels, I find these to be the cleanest I've used and I really like the slightly sweet taste. I tend to get tired of flavors quickly, but haven't had this experience using Maurten's gels and drinks. And a big plus for me personally has been the jello-like consistency. I wear Invisalign aligners and can't chew bars when I'm active, so the consistency of these is a perfect mix between being soft enough to consume easily and solid enough to not be a sticky mess in my mouth. I'd definitely recommend these!

I really like this product. There are a couple of things though. Firstly, though very easy to open, I find that the wrapping can send my fillings on edge! It’s not that I put the wrapping in my mouth or that I have fillings on my front teeth. But when I do go to take the gel, if the wrapping was to get close to my back teeth, I can feel it! I don’t know why?Secondly, cost!! Very VERY expensive - in my opinion! I’m new to marathon training and finding out about taking on fuel whilst out on long runs! I have tried a few different gels and I find some hard to open and I hate the runny ones where you get stuck up to the eye balls!! I do like these ones, though I find them hard to swallow the further on I get into my run! But that’s just a “me” thing! I have had about ... MoreI really like this product. I try to make them last but the closer I get to my goal race the more I need and I will need some for race day too!

This is a big boy.I wasn't sure I could fit it in my mouth in one whole go, I couldn't it was too big.The best way I found to consume this big gooey product was to take a big gulp, let it like down my throat and repeat until completion. It is an expensive gel so have a good think before committing but breaking it down into € per gram of carbohydrate these are much cheaper than the 100 Gel.Gel 100 = €0.033 per gram of carbohydrateGel 160 = €0.028 per gram of carbohydrateIf my mathematics is correct (statistically speaking I am 97.9% correct), you are getting 28g of carbohydrate for free over buying the equivalent of Gel 100.

Excellent gels

Have tried several gels before but wanted to give these a go as they get such goods reviews. Personally I really like the fairly flavourless taste - they are slightly sweet but in a pleasant way. The texture is very different from other gels I've tried but I find them much easier to take on the run due to the thicker consistency. Have only tried them on training runs so far but have had no digestive issues and they definitely help with energy levels. Lastly, I find them very easy to open on the move without getting the gel everywhere like other brands I've tried. The only slight negative is that the tab is too easy to tear off completely - manufacturers could easily adapt the packaging so that the tab doesn't break off completely thus avoiding pits of packaging ... MoreHave tried several gels before but wanted to give these a go as they get such goods reviews. Fantastic!

Used these on race day and noticed a huge difference! I took one every 4.5 miles as part of my marathon and didn’t really feel my energy depleting until after mile 25. They’re thicker than normal gels which make them easier to run with and eat at a nicer pace; I find I need to really take my time with some gels because they sit heavy on m stomach of taken too fast. These are easy to take slowly, and even if eaten quite quickly don’t sit like other gels do.Don’t taste if much, just a slight sweet almost honey like flavour. Will definitely be using in future races!

Gamble that paid off

Nothing new on race day right? Well I gambled in this after the reviews and it worked for me. It's the consistency of snot but a lot easier to swallow than some thick gels I've tried. It really doesnt taste of much - when I read that, I was put off thinking that would be disgusting but usually I find myself dreading getting a gel down me bit this was fine. It really did pick me up on My marathon. No gastro issues from it either. Guess it's worth the hype!

Great Taste. Not Sweet

Like some gels on the market they are sweet and gooey. I've been using these now several months incl their caffeine versions and I really love them once you get used to texture [ kind of like jelly ] they are great. Easily to use and digest and no sticky fingers when your putting wrapping in your rear pockets. Certainly feel improved NRG levels when I've taken a gel. Of you're not 100% with what you're using now these are certainly worth researching and using 5/5

Ride saving fuel

My first gravel race was also my first experience using Maurten Gels. The conditions were tough. Rain soaked and muddy. I wasn't fuelling as I was just hanging on to my bars to get through some tough sections and climbs. I started cramping and reached for a Gel. Within a couple minutes I was back on the power and felt great. The quick delivery into my system was appreciated. Thank you for a top notch product!! Lesson learned.

Worth a little extra

Very impressed with Maurten 160 gels. Had experienced very bad GI problems in my last two mountain ultra races usuing my usual gels.I took advice from Xmiles and they recommended using the large 160 Maurten gels. It solved two problems really because I didn’t have to carry so many packets on a 50mile race and my stomachs felt great all day. I felt that I ran strongly throughout the event. Definitely worth the extra cost.
