I probably should have used bleach before using this, but the box had a picture of what my hair color would look like after using the dye and it was close enough to the color I wanted. Either this dye isn’t very pigmented or my hair just didn’t take to it at all. Either way, I have used this dye in the past and had positive results, so it might just be the color I chose this time around.

I was hesitant to try it because I’d been using 8a in other brands and it was too dark, so I thought switching from 8.5 to 82 might be darker. My hair is fine and curly. It looks healthy, curly, and nice when I use this. This is the second time I’ve used this, I tried it last year and felt the same way, this is the perfect tone for me, but I had some of my old color in the cabinet and wanted to use it up. It was disappointing to see the other color, and when I returned to this color I was like, “yayyy!! This is the right one!!!” This time I’m sticking with this color.I did learn not to use handmade soap to wash my hands after dying. I got dye on my fingers and washed it off with handmade bar soap. 15 minutes later my fingers swelled and got a little numb. I washed well with regular hand soap twice and then soaked my hand in water with a little dish soap. My hand was fine, back to normal after 20 minutes. My scalp had no reactions.

Don’t buy. It sucks
16 May 2023

I don’t mean to be rude or anything at all- but this product seriously sucks. It says it’s permanent (8 weeks for permanent hair dye isn’t a long time) and it didn’t even last ONE WASH right after it was dyed. Followed all the instructions, everything. The color? It was pretty, but it was nothing at all like advertised on the box. AT ALL. And normally I wouldn’t be mad, but it didn’t dye evenly. Like parts of my hair are green, greenish blue, teal… and it didn’t even stick to some parts of my hair. It looks gross and it’s just a complete mess even though all of the instructions were completed without error. It doesn’t dye hair properly at all and the color doesn’t even match- not to mention the package arrived looking like someone had stomped on it. Extremely Satisfied
29 January 2023

I have really long wavy/straight thick hair, down to my waist just about, and I really wanted to get rid of the two toned hair that my ombre/blonde had grow out to. This color matched my roots just enough. It comes out darker at first but will fade with washes - that being said I was not worried when my results turned out closer to black than a deep dark brown. I purchased two boxes but was able to cover my entire head with one. I am planning to go back through some areas with the second box for full coverage. I was extremely satisfied with the amount of product. The conditioner that you wash your hair with at the end left my hair feeling so silky smooth. The dye also came off my skin easily when I accidentally got it on my neck or ears. My hair was not significantly damaged before use but also not necessarily healthy, I am due for a trim to my ends. I did have some knots and small pieces of hair come out but that is normal breakage. Below is the light brown/dark blonde, after is the deep brown/black color! I love it! I am extremely satisfied in the results and this saved me hundreds from another salon visit!

Formula has changed for the worse
10 April 2023

The most recent changes to this product made it where I can barely squeeze the contents from the tube into the developer bottle. Once mixed, it is soooo hard to get out of the developer bottle without constantly taking off the cap to unclog it. It smells a little different (not for the better) and the result of the color is now too dark. It also stained my skin which it has never done before. I have used this product for 15+ years and have recommended to so many people and now I will have to find another brand. I am so disappointed and I don't know how this new "thick" formula passed quality control. How can you use it? It added extra time to the whole process because of how thick it is and the constant shaking/unclogging. Awful.

Hard to apply, not user friendly, total mess

This was the worst at home hair color product I have ever used. I have been coloring my own hair for 20 years. I have used this brand before and was happy with the overall experience. I did not realize that Garnier had changed the product to the new Ultra Creme. The product did not mix well. It remained thick and globby in the applicator. I had to shake much longer then usual. After it was well mixed, I proceeded to section my hair like usual and tried to start applying the product. It would not come out. I took off the applicator cap thinking it was just clumpy at the exit point. I shook it up some more. I began to apply, it was thick and did not come out evenly. I've been using this product since 2018 with amazing results. I had damaged hair from bleach and was trying to grow it and make it healthy.I used this shade and it turned out really nice! Yes it is darker than the box looks, but all box dye makes your ends look darker after time, that's just the way it works. I only do my roots now, I don't have to pull it down to the ends. I have been consistent and only used this same shade every single time, and have amazing results. People still compliment my hair, it's shiny and very long now. I recently got highlights professionally and my hairstylist just told me to continue using this shade on my roots until I need new highlights. I've been using this hair color for as long as I can remember. I haven't changed anything, no new shampoo, no new hair products, I'm just getting older and getting more gray. I'm now 52 and the last few boxes are NOT coloring my hair well. It's looking as fantastic as ever for everything but my roots. Now that I'm about 90%+ gray, this color lasts about a week and then by two weeks it doesn't even look like I colored it at all, and my roots are turning orangey, or just gray again. I only wash my hair 2x a week. This has NEVER happened in many, many years. I've been coloring my hair for about 20 years. I am not ready to go gray, at 52 I'm still only 12 inside! I could cry and I have. For months now I'm just so sad. At this point, I've been looking to get a really good high quality human hair wig.

Love this brand, surprised at the reviews
23 December 2022

I have naturally dark blonde hair but prefer my hair dark brown. I thought this was the color I'd used and bought it to touch up my roots. It isn't dark enough to match the rest of my hair, which is dark brown, so I'm surprised at the reviews saying it's "black". I'd say it came out lighter than the photo on the box - but again, my natural color is dark blonde, so take that into consideration.Other than that, I love this brand - it's my go-to for years, the smell added to the mix is amazing.
