Have used Soft Black #20 and Deep Chestnut Brown 434 for several years and found 434 was a deep brown that was just perfect and I loved it. I noted that this recent box of 434 had a different model and boasted "improved richer color" I was not deterred. I should have known something was off because the creme did not mix well in the bottle and the chemical smell that was usually faint was stronger than usual. When the time was up, I was surprised to see my med brown roots were red/orange! Not at all the color I had used 5 or so weeks ago (using a reserve box of the original 434), nor does it match the color on the current box. I'm so disappointed. My hair is still soft and shiny, but color makes me sad. I'm not interested in damaging my hair by trying to change it ... MoreHave used Soft Black #20 and Deep Chestnut Brown 434 for several years and found 434 was a deep brown that was just perfect and I loved it. I have used this product, (same color, sweet cola 30) for over 10 years and Iâve NEVER had a problem! However the last time I colored a few months ago I noticed the dye looked different, thick with a GREEN tint while dying. It never fully turned black like it usually does. I noticed my hair had a dull brown/green hue to it when finished. It got better after washing a few times, but not the pretty deep brown Iâm used to. I thought (hoped) I just got a bad bottle, maybe it was old. So I repurchased my same sweet cola and dyed my hair tonight. When I started I noticed the SAME UGLY GREEN COLOR!!! So as itâs processing I look up reviews to see if Iâm going crazy, or if others are having the same issue. And here are tons of 1 âď¸ reviews with the same complaint!! I haven't dyed my hair in close to a year. Decided to do it again because lots of gray coming in through my naturally dark brown hair. I start to mix the dye and start applying and notice it's starting to turn green after a little while. The dye on the gloves is also muck green. I continue and start the timer, thinking maybe the color will change to more of a brown. Nope. Still very muck green. I do a Google search and find myself here, where others are having the same issue. I decide to jump in the shower before the 30 minutes and just wash it out. Nearly christmas, but not interested in looking like the grinch.I've used dye in years past that was ash brown, which does have green undertones, but nowhere on this color box does it mention this being ash. The box shows a nice, rich dark brown. Maybe it would have been fine, but I'm not taking the risk so close to having a bunch of company over. Guess I'll need to try another brand. Yikes.
It's still very fresh so I'm still processing how I feel about it. Called in and spoke to customer care. I have level 7/8 dirty blonde hair, it was completely grown out and natural. I had about 50% grey, and my hair looked muddy. I picked 81 so it wouldn't show too much growing out. I just wanted to perk it up a bit but stay on the silver side. The peroxide lightened my hair a lot in the dying process, showing yellow/orange, and the ash didn't set in as much as expected. I took 20 minutes to get it applied, and left it on 25 mins after that. I could see some darkening. It has continued to darken a bit in the hour since I rinsed it (I have noticed that before with other products). I rinsed in lukewarm water (should you use hot?). It looks much more golden than I expected. Kindov brownish, like a level 7 golden brown... or dark strawberry blonde. Not what is pictured on the box. But it's okay. We'll see how my roots look in a month's time. I have purple shampoo, and a chrome demi if necessary.
Before Hair: Natural medium-dark brown with medium-to-light-blonde highlights (full head of foils). Dramatic contrast between regrowth and highlighted hair.Predicament: Regular salon visits are getting expensive. Not happy with the patchiness the foils have created. When I tie my hair up (which I do often), there are a lot of dark areas. Torn between dying it all back to my natural color or trying to uplift the roots myself. The Latter seemed way to risky as I am completely inexperienced with bleaching my own hair.Process: I decided to try the 70-dark-natural-blonde-almond-crème. Looking at the âIs this shade right for youâ on the side of the box, my hair is probably slightly darker than the medium brown shown. Looking at the âIs this shade right for youâ on the side of the box, my hair is probably slightly darker than the medium brown shown. I followed the root touch up option, but after rinsing off the color (but before using the conditioner provided), I used some purple shampoo on the roots because I noticed they looked a bit orangey after the 30 mins). I left the purple shampoo on the roots for about 5 minutes and then washed it into the rest of my hair for about another two minutes.Result: Wow! The roots lifted really well (no orange) and the blend into the lighter blond length is way more even than the foil route. No more patchiness. I am still blonde (definitely lighter than Drewâs shade), but itâs toned down and looks a lot more natural and healthier.I hope this helps anyone in the same predicament as me. I am so glad I didnât try the whole âadd red back first to avoid your hair going green and then chose a brown shade lighter than you wantâ route again, as this has never worked for me and has left me miserably washing my hair with decalcifying shampoo for weeks to try and lighten the brown, only to have copper tones showing through which later turn a pinky shade.
I tried this new formula in April 2023 when they were first rolling it out and did not like how it was much thicker (little bits flung off the tip when trying valiantly to shake down the mix), but the WORST part is that it is NOT the same color - at all. This made my roots orange. I called the 800# last year, and they sent me a refund. The nice rep said maybe it didn't mix well enough and to try mixing the color with something like a bamboo skewer. Instead of doing that, I immediately went out and bought all the old style formula I could find (4 stores), and it worked great for a year! Now, in April 2024, after running out of the old formula, I bought the new formula again, mixed it very well with a bamboo skewer and, lo and behold, had the same exact problem - a strip of orange hair at my roots next to my beautiful old-formula chestnut. This new formula is absolutely terrible. I called the 800# again just now, and Jackie was super nice and understanding (they've been getting similar calls). She recommended I try the Olio version 5.3. This is also one of Garnier's brands. They're sending me a coupon to cover this last disaster. She also said if Olio 5.3 didn't work to try Garnier Nutrisse #43, which is a darker golden brown. I hope the Olio version works, as I won't stick with a brand that gives me clown hair.
I was bleach blonde a few months ago and then dyed my hair a brown that I hoped would be similar to my natural color, but it turned out a little warmer than I had hoped. Once it had faded a bit I bought this hoping it would deepen the color a little and maybe make it a little more cool toned. Unfortunately I saw absolutely no difference, even leaving it on for at least ten minutes on shampooed hair. I have tried it more than once, and still my hair looks exactly the same. Even though the mask looks brown the one I got doesn't seem to have very much pigment in it. Maybe it was a bad batch? I've seen other reviews saying it stained their hands if they didn't wash it off quickly, and it didn't stain mine at all. I am a long-term use of Garnier Fructis Nutrisse Hair Color, #53. I used to love it. Now, I agree with many of the customers who have reported awful experiences using your new (2023) formulation of #53. The color dye is almost impossible to squeeze out of the tube, and once in the bottle with the developer, it does not mix in, even when shaken repeatedly for many minutes (much more than 60 seconds). I ended up with clumps of dye that were difficult to squeeze out of the bottle and when they did come out, they splattered onto places I did not want to dye. Also, the color #53 now turns out to be ORANGE, not medium golden brown. This is not acceptable. Did your research team not test this product before selling it to unsuspecting customers? How about offering a refund ... MoreI am a long-term use of Garnier Fructis Nutrisse Hair Color, #53. I have been using Garnier Nutrisse for many, many years and always thought it was amazing. I used to have beautiful, glossy hair and had many compliments. Then, just recently, they decided to change the formula to a vegan formula which is truly AWFUL! I am devastated! I have been crying a lot. My hair has gone from a lovely brown colour to a bright ginger red colour and friends are asking me why I dyed my hair red! I didn't! I'm just using the new formula as Garnier didn't give us any choice in the matter! My hair had gone from being glossy and lovely to dull, lifeless, dry and even sticky!!! I contacted the Garnier customer service chat and the lady said that they added clay to the formula which causes the hair to be dull, lifeless, dry and sticky! And then she went on to suggest conditioners and products to by to help with the problems the new formula has caused! Needless to say, I was astounded and angry. Why on earth has Garnier done this?!!! Bring back the old formula and create a separate vegan range!!!! It doesn't even cover the greys anymore either!
