This is not really my rating but rather an observation of the dog and a rating based on that! He likes it. He is a 6 month old 50# puppy that experiences everything through his mouth. This has given him quite a bit of satisfied chewing and still remains essentially intact. It has probably saved a number of items around the house from being chewed. It's rough around the edges after he has been chewing on it for a while so you don't want him dragging it across your leg but that is really the worst of it.

My dog is a diabetic. She stays hungry constantly. It hurts us to see her so hungry that she cries for more food. I got the Benebone Bacon Flavor Wishbone Tough Chew Toy to keep her from wanting other food. Instead, this bone caused her mouth to bleed and she was eating the plastic bone and swallowing pieces of it. Don't buy this item for any dog with a strong jaw line.I should get my money back for this bone truly.

My 4 yr old pit bull mix & 1 1/2 yr old rottie loved this bone. I’ve purchase several types of these hard bones before with no issues - until last night when my rottie was chewing it & then started acting strange… it turns out, she broke one of her front teeth! Apparently, these bones are way too hard for their teeth & under the right conditions, could even break them. She’s young & healthy so definitely nothing wrong with her teeth/gums. She’s an aggressive chewer though so I should’ve been more selective. The vet said to always do the fingernail test - When pressed with a fingernail, slight pressure should leave an indentation on the chew. These bones do not pass the test & unfortunately, lesson learned the hard way.

I’ve been buying these for my dogs since the beginning. I have to make sure I always have one or two for each of them. My 8 year old boxer/lab mix has the teeth of a 2 year old. I’m expecting that he will never need any teeth pulled in his lifetime. These bones are American made and in my opinion, totally safe. I recommend them to every one I talk to, including adoptive and pet sitting parents (I’m a foster mom and pet sitter). If you have a bored doggie, I highly recommend you give them one of these bones. I have a video of two of them chewing at same time but I guess I can’t post it here…dang it.
We have 3 mastiffs. A 10 month old English Mastiff, a 2yr old Cane Corso and a 13yr old Cane Corso who all throughly enjoy this durable and completely safe chew toy. Our crew can pretty much destroy the majority of dog toys, it's just a matter of time as to how quickly it happens. But these Benebones seem invincible! I purchased 2 of them thinking I'd need a back up but they are holding up better than any Nylabone or similar types chew toys. All 3 beast have been working on the 2 bones nonstop and there's almost no wear to show for it. The ergonomic design is great for the dogs to position it in their paws comfortably. I have not seen any signs of gum bleed either which is awesome. The size, I purchased large or extra large I believe, is very appropriate for my giant breed doggos. I purchased these on sale and now knowing what a superior product it is, I'll happily pay full price as to throwing my money away on chew toys that are simply not strong or large enough to keep my dogs safe and happy. This product will not splinter as it is made of a semi-ridgid, material that is still soft enough to prevent gum bleeding.
I have a huge assortment of nylon and rubber toys for my new super-chewing iron-jawed 60lb pittie mix. She will usually pick Benebones over the other nylon chews, but I rotate her toys upstairs and down and swap them out now and then to keep them "interesting" to her. She doesn't seem to have a preference between these bacon ones (Large pictured) or peanut butter, but she does prefer the Zaggler shape over the Wishbone. Zaggler is better for larger or heavy-chewing dogs as well since the big round shape is more difficult to get between their molars to clamp down on and break a tooth. Benebone's sizing is MUCH more accurate than Nylabone, but still size up if you have a very heavy-chewing dog. Bigger chews are safer. I got this for a friends new puppy after my great experience.I adopted a dog 5 years ago when sge was about 4 months old. She became what I refer to as a "super chewer" and the damaged she caused even though I work with puppies and supervised heavily, was out of control. I was finally forced to teather her to my waist when I couldn't supervise every second or crate her.I discovered these flavored bones a they saved my house from more damage than it experienced. The flavor promotes chewing the right thing and they last a long time. My other dog also loves them, they are great for gums. Different flavors add to the appeal, dogs can switch chews if they want.I've used this company forever. Customer service is tops. 1000 stars.
I avoided antlers because I heard they were too hard on teeth. My dog (65 lb Shepherd mix) quickly shredded rubber chews and Nylabones. I thought Benebones were great. My dog loved them. Then one day I saw a tiny broken piece of a tooth on the carpet next to a Benebone. My dog damaged a molar. I am so sorry my boy had to go through oral surgery to have the damaged tooth removed plus it cost over $5k. The dental vet said, as a rule, if you can’t make a dent in it with your fingernail, it shouldn't go in a dog’s mouth. I had some new Benebones in my cabinet. I threw them out because I didn’t want to risk some other dog getting hurt. Maybe it won’t happen, but please learn from my mistake and don’t take that gamble. Find something more pliable.
I have a 55 pound Irish setter/Doberman mix who is going through the end stage of puppy teething. I bought this after getting the hammer looking one. This is turned out to be his favorite chew. He spends six hours a day chewing on this and caring it everywhere with him. After six days of some major chewing, he has barely put a dent in it. The only issue is as he choose. It gets sharp points. This can be remedied by taking a palm, sander and sanding the points off and letting him start over again. If you have a serious tour , put this treat to the test. Not only is your dog going to be happy but so are you.
My King Charles Ivy weighs in at around ten pounds, but knows how to throw her weight around.Thought I had ordered the small version of this bone but ended up with the large version. It is literally the size of her head, She loves it. Takes it to bed with her to chew on just before bed and then carries it around the house during the day. This Benebone is so tough it lasts a long, long time. It must have just enough flavor to keep the dog interested. No muss from this chew bone. Has to be good for their teeth,Highly recommend! I am no obstetrician, but I played one on TV and I would recommend the Benebone for children who are teething.
