I have a 5 lbs Chihuahua so this toy took some time before he was able to play with it. But now that he’s full grown he loves chewing on the wishbone. The rounded edges seem to be his favourite part, there must be something about the shape that allows for easy chewing. The wishbone is quite hard which is great because it makes it durable! My dog chews on this everyday, it’s one of his favourite toys! Benebone comes in other shapes and sizes as well and the bone is supposed to be flavoured which may be why my dog loves it so much. It’s a great toy for teething and chewers, and lasts long!

I got our 8 pitbulls these on hey whim just because I like to buy toys and chewies for them. I am so happy that I did because all eight of them love their Benebones! With them being pitbulls there is power in their jaws that are so strong that they destroy most everything that you give them I've only had success with two other toys being able to withstand their power until now. Our main boy that likes to play with his toys all day long has basically abandoned his favorite toys in trade for his new Benebone. They have absolutely loved them I don't know if it's the peanut butter flavor of them if it's just the bone itself I don't know what it is but they absolutely love it. Our cats even try to take it from them. This is an absolute recommendation for anyone with dogs ... MoreI got our 8 pitbulls these on hey whim just because I like to buy toys and chewies for them. My 4 yr old pit bull mix & 1 1/2 yr old rottie loved this bone. I’ve purchase several types of these hard bones before with no issues - until last night when my rottie was chewing it & then started acting strange… it turns out, she broke one of her front teeth! Apparently, these bones are way too hard for their teeth & under the right conditions, could even break them. She’s young & healthy so definitely nothing wrong with her teeth/gums. She’s an aggressive chewer though so I should’ve been more selective. The vet said to always do the fingernail test - When pressed with a fingernail, slight pressure should leave an indentation on the chew. These bones do not pass the test & unfortunately, lesson learned the hard way.

Our dog loves filled bones so much she cracked a tooth. Bones help her regulate her overwhelming feelings (frustrated? Chew a bone. Jealous? Chew a bone. Too excited? Chew a bone.), so I was looking for ones that might be a bit gentler on her teeth. She loves this bone (so much so I got 3 more). It's durable (she has barely damaged it and I hear her GRINDING on it, so I know she's trying). Once she figured out she can use one prong to hold it down and chew on the others, she was a happy girl. Not sure if this will totally prevent future tooth-cracking (because the girl loves bones), but it certainly seems a little gentler on her teeth and even longer-lasting than filled shin bones (with less sharp flakes or edges being formed)
We have 3 mastiffs. A 10 month old English Mastiff, a 2yr old Cane Corso and a 13yr old Cane Corso who all throughly enjoy this durable and completely safe chew toy. Our crew can pretty much destroy the majority of dog toys, it's just a matter of time as to how quickly it happens. But these Benebones seem invincible! I purchased 2 of them thinking I'd need a back up but they are holding up better than any Nylabone or similar types chew toys. All 3 beast have been working on the 2 bones nonstop and there's almost no wear to show for it. The ergonomic design is great for the dogs to position it in their paws comfortably. I have not seen any signs of gum bleed either which is awesome. The size, I purchased large or extra large I believe, is very appropriate for my giant breed doggos. I purchased these on sale and now knowing what a superior product it is, I'll happily pay full price as to throwing my money away on chew toys that are simply not strong or large enough to keep my dogs safe and happy. This product will not splinter as it is made of a semi-ridgid, material that is still soft enough to prevent gum bleeding.
Our dog LOVES these toys. She has been working on her bacon flavored one since Christmas, so for 8ish months so far. While it looks well loved (chewed), she is still gnawing at it every time she comes inside! I haven't noticed any pieces falling off, but it is well chewed so it's hard to tell. It's roughly the same size as this new one so there can't be that much material coming off. When we got the first one, I thought it was too firm and she'd never like it but hoped it would last longer than other chew toys we've given her. Boy was I wrong! She wouldn't hardly put it down once we gave it to her and was very sad that she couldn't take it outside with her. (We didn't want her to lose it outside since we wanted her to have something to "do" when she wanted to be ... MoreOur dog LOVES these toys. (We didn't want her to lose it outside since we wanted her to have something to "do" when she wanted to be inside so she wouldn't get bored and decide to chew something else)We also got another type of toy that was a different shape, but similar in firmness and flavor. However, she doesn't hardly touch that one unless she misplaces the other. So, maybe it isn't the flavor, but the shape that she likes? I'm not sure.Since, I am sure we'll need to replace this one at some point we bought her this peanut butter one. I'm sure she'll love this one just as much because she has always loved anything peanut butter!
I have a huge assortment of nylon and rubber toys for my new super-chewing iron-jawed 60lb pittie mix. She will usually pick Benebones over the other nylon chews, but I rotate her toys upstairs and down and swap them out now and then to keep them "interesting" to her. She doesn't seem to have a preference between these peanut butter ones (Medium pictured) or bacon, but she does prefer the Zaggler shape over the Wishbone. Zaggler is better for larger or heavy-chewing dogs as well since the big round shape is more difficult to get between their molars to clamp down on and break a tooth. Benebone's sizing is MUCH more accurate than Nylabone, but still size up if you have a very heavy-chewing dog. Bigger chews are safer. If my dog were inclined to put the toy between her back molars, I would only get her a Large size of the wishbone, but either work for her with her chewing style. Pictures show this with a bunch of other Nylabone, Benebone, Tikaton, and Bark nylon chew toys in Med/Lg for size reference. Highly recommended!
I avoided antlers because I heard they were too hard on teeth. My dog (65 lb Shepherd mix) quickly shredded rubber chews and Nylabones. I thought Benebones were great. My dog loved them. Then one day I saw a tiny broken piece of a tooth on the carpet next to a Benebone. My dog damaged a molar. I am so sorry my boy had to go through oral surgery to have the damaged tooth removed plus it cost over $5k. The dental vet said, as a rule, if you can’t make a dent in it with your fingernail, it shouldn't go in a dog’s mouth. I had some new Benebones in my cabinet. I threw them out because I didn’t want to risk some other dog getting hurt. Maybe it won’t happen, but please learn from my mistake and don’t take that gamble. Find something more pliable.
I have a 55 pound Irish setter/Doberman mix who is going through the end stage of puppy teething. I bought this after getting the hammer looking one. This is turned out to be his favorite chew. He spends six hours a day chewing on this and caring it everywhere with him. After six days of some major chewing, he has barely put a dent in it. The only issue is as he choose. It gets sharp points. This can be remedied by taking a palm, sander and sanding the points off and letting him start over again. If you have a serious tour , put this treat to the test. Not only is your dog going to be happy but so are you.
