Before Pokemon, would anyone have really taken the notion of card battling seriously? A game that's marginally more interesting than Top Trumps and essentially the same concept as the old paper, scissors and stone idea used to settle playground disputes (unless you were a hardcase, of course)? Well, for some reason gamers can't get enough of it lately and, subsequently, there's no shortage of card battle games. The PlayStation 2 is the latest machine to receive such an offering, part of Konami's popular GBA brand, Yu-Gi-Oh! In a novel way, this fantastical and magical video game is actually based on actual historical fact, more specifically the 15th Century English conflict, the War of the Roses. Thankfully, though, there are no 'bayonets at ten paces' shenanigans to endure here, Duelists of the Roses relies on the good old, tried and tested combat system of ridiculously explosive magic attacks and massive summoned monsters. The actual battles take place in the usual turn-based way, with each player able to summon up to five monsters on the battleground. Powers and abilities are governed by a range of factors, most notably card type, but also including location, offensive and defensive point values, and an experience-based rank system. The basic idea is to either reduce your opponent's Leader Points to zero or populate all of your opponent's summon squares on the battleground. Failing that, if you're still both standing after 99 turns then it's a case of the old 'whoever's got most points wins' idea. Putting an immensely complicated spin of one of the simplest of gaming concepts, Duelists of the Roses makes for an entertaining experience. Is an extremely popular series already - if you're a fan then you'll already be looking forward to this.

I played this a long time ago when I was still in elementary school. I never had the game, and I only borrowed it. The reason why it stuck in my mind was because of the plot and the game mechanics. If you know of a little European history, you'll know that the game is the same format as the War of the Roses. If you want linear plot and gameplay, just pick the Yorkists. If you want to have the whole map to yourself, then pick Lancastrians. It's a pretty fun game that isn't like modern Yu-Gi-Oh! games. Some battles can be really hard, but the whole game is worth it.

I got addicted to this strategy game when my brother borrowed this game from his friend for an indefinite amount of time. I finally decided to get my own copy and it's still just as fun and sometimes frustrating as ever. This probably isn't for the average grade schooler. Maaaaaybe a 4th or 5th grader. It's a card + strategy game so it gets you thinking and that's the fun part about it.

Years ago I played this game a ton. Just recently I wanted to buy it again so I did. Man what can I say? I enjoy it now more that im older. I've always been a fan of strategy games and this is exactly what this game is. Strategy. The game takes you back to the Tudor period, York vs Lancaster on who will rule England. the history part is a nice touch. Product came in on time and it works well. Love this game and if you like the Yu-Gi-Oh series you will too.

This is the first game my 6 year old son has beaten. He beat both sides in less than a month. That doesn't mean it is easy. It would have been easier if we had read some directions first, instead of using trial and error.I hear a lot of complaints that this game is too hard, so I thought I would give a few directions for beginniners. I am not trying to be insulting but these are a few things I wish we knew earlier.**TIPS**Your deck must have fewer points than your opponents. I know that seems bad but there is often a reason. Some people with weak decks have flowers on their field that you can't place strong monsters on. If your deck has too many strong monsters, you can't move them.Stupid flowers on the field. These kill off all strong monsters. If you can't go around, use weaker monster. Try to get your leader across them before summoning strong cards. Try to find someone like the roaring ocean snake. If you flip him face up, he turns flowers into water. Sweet!Don't skip the blah blah words too fast. After beating several opponents, my son scrolled through so fast we didn't get the code for new monsters. You add these by pressing your left joystick down in the deck area. Here is a freebie JXCB6FU7When you build your deck, you need to get rid of monsters from your deck (the right side of the screen), using the square on your controller and add new ones from your chest (the left side) with the x. Your deck has to have 40 cards. Especially if you win good card.
No skip or freezes. Disc was in excellent condition.Great game to some easy and to some very challenging. All depend on how you master your starter deck. Beat the game for both sides Rose and York both very fun kept me alert you never know what card your opponet can pull. The terrian and field advantages add another element to the game, very fun. Recommended for any Yugioh fan.
I love this game, I remember I had this game way back in the day and I traded in. Which was a bad idea knowing several time later I would want to play it again. This my 3rd time buying this game again, lol this time I'm not letting it go. You either hate this game or love it. And I love it. Try it out
When I was a kid I played this game a couple of times. I thought it was confusing because the game play is different from the original way of playing Yu-Gi-Oh. Buying this again after a few years made me realize that this was a masterpiece of the future. It's a very nice and interesting way to duel, almost like chess pieces by moving a card by 1-2 steps depending on which terrain it's currently in. The story takes place from hundreds of years ago with Yugi being Henry Tudor and on the Red roses side. There's the other side, Blue Roses, with Seto Kiba. Graphics were above average and one of the best things about this game was the soundtrack. It makes the game noteworthy of having 5/5 stars.
I recall very vividly purchasing this game waaaay back when it first came out, only to get the cards it came with and return the game to the store I got it from. I'm ashamed to say that I never really gave it the chance it deserved. So, after about a year and a half of debating, I finally decided to pick this one up and play it. Boy, was I glad I did.STORY: 7/10It's pretty basic and easy to understand. You, the player, have been summoned from present day to Medieval Europe as the legendary Rose Duelist, choosing to side with the wielders of the Red Rose or the wielders of the White Rose. What really surprised me about this game's plot was that it actually takes real places, names, and excerpts from our own recorded history, and it blends it so successfully with the YuGiOh! forumla. It was done very well, but it would have been so much better if was a lot longer. With games like Falsebound Kingdom (another YuGiOh! game for the Gamecube), the story was almost exhaustively long. I would've preferred that for this one, too.GAMEPLAY: 9/10I loved it. DOTR takes a sort of Fire Emblem feel and mixes it with the famous--and not so famous--monsters and magic from the actual card game. You will engage in combat on a massive square-based grid, summon your creatures in decent 3D rendering, and fi.
Came in great condition! Runs perfectly on my PS2! No issue, would highly recommend!
