Yamaha Stage Custom Birch Drum Kit With PST5 Cymbals Pack

I have played many kits in this price bracket and find the Yamaha Stage Custom range the best of the bunch for my needs. I like the sound that birch delivers and the fusion sizes of the drums. I have changed the heads of the toms to coated ones but this is my personal choice and the heads that come with it are fine. I have cut a 4 inch porthole in the bass drum and with a small round cushion inserted get a good punchy sound with no overtones. The surf green colour looks very modern and is very attractive. My kit came with a hardware pack including snare drum stand, hi hat stand, bass drum pedal and 2 cymbal stands. All double braced and well made. First thing to say is the Yamaha Stage Custom "5pc shell pack" is awesome!! These shells hands down beat the Ludwig and CB700 kits I played as a kid back in the late 70's and 80's! Secondly credit must be given to GC - Johnny, Ivey and Sam of the Plano TX store are awesome. They answered my questions without hesitation and always helped me accomplish the short term goals to get this kit where it is today. GC management gets a huge thanks as well since there was a fair amount of equipment churn with this build. Sometimes they had to step in for approvals. Carol and Ted were the managers I worked with. 90% of the equipment listed below came from GC retail stores. A few items were done online via GC while the remaining 5% came from other retailers (solely based on product availability). It is important to note that until recently I had not touched a set of drums since the mid '80s! I wanted to go "middle of the road" to ensure what I was doing as a kid returned relatively easy - it did and I was hooked from that point forward which meant additional equipment and better cymbals. All of this took research (mainly videos from Google and reading product reviews). There is always trial and error pulling up the rear. 😊 Basically when all is said and done, the only extra stuff I will have are the original drum heads, the wing nuts off the cymbal stands and a Gibraltar accessory / tom mount. 😊 Pretty cool all in itself when you look at the evolution of this build. Remember this all started with a 5pc shell pack, the Yamaha 680W hardware kit and a Zildjian ZBT cymbal kit.

Using this in a small home studio, but would be great live too. Wasnt expecting the sound to be as great as it is, especially the kick. I've always used maple, for over 15 years. After a lot of research on Yamaha, I felt this was a good fit. It far exceeded my expectations!!
