I like this thing and it allows me to work in the same room as "the Boss" without dischord.On its own it sounds fabulous but when multitracked it is very difficult to integrate into mix. I have found that it doesn't need to be played hard and, so doing, the sound in a mix is superb. Get carried away and it sticks out like a sore duck on a wet afternoon.It doesn't feel like an expensive guitar and the finish on the neck is poor. Open pore as you've never imagined.Nevertheless it does the job if its quirks are considered and I suspect, as the action can be lowered, would make an ideal instrument for strumming and barre work.Finally, sitting down use a strap as it suts very oddly without.

Bought this for trips and vacations. Very light weight, compact, yet packs a wonderful, warm melodic sound.Has the treble for a bit more Crunch when you want it, but close to perfect for evenings and nights when entertaining with friends. Bad part, a bit minor, but the Output plug is on the bottom, inside bout and if you don't have a straight plug or use a wireless transmitter, it more than likely will get in your way or at least be bothersome. Controls are a bit small, but not a big problem and out of the way. Overall, very pleased with the construction, finish and playability. The sound is just what I wanted.

I shaped a new bone saddle to replace the plastic OEM saddle and I got the action down to 2.75 mm/2.25 mm. I think the bone saddle improved the sound. The nut is about as low as you would want it. The truss rod in my instrument was adjusted perfectly for medium tension strings so no adjustmens were needed.I agree with the complaints from other reviewers that the strap buttons, that also hold the upper frame bout in place, have a tendency to loosen slightly when you use a strap, which, by the way, I recommend using. Due to it's geometry, the guitar doesn't sit quite right in true classical position on a left leg. The upper frame bout also has a small bulge that hits me squarely in the sternum. It's not uncomfortable but I notice it occasionally. The tuning machines have a little excess play.Intonation is good all the way up the neck and octaves are nicely in tune. The built-in tuner is OK but you can do better by ear. The workmanship is A-1 first class top notch, and the included gig bag is durable and holds everything securely in place.If, when I bought my SLG200NW, I knew what I know now, would I have bought this guitar? Without a doubt!

Most of the guitars in my collection are expensive collector's instruments: Taylors, Gibsons, and a handmade classical guitar by the Spanish Luthier Ricardo Sanchis, to name a few. While I don't play publicly much anymore, I have performed classical guitar in concert. I'm no pro, by any means, but a good Saturday still includes at least 4 hours of playing.As for the SLG200NW, I am ALWAYS amazed at how great this guitar sounds. The fingerboard, action, and frets gives me the feeling of "glide" that I do not get with any other guitar. The machine heads are also very responsive, and the guitar stays perfectly in tune.Clearly one of the most obvious benefits (aside from the above) is the ability to play silently without disturbing anyone nearby. This is ESPECIALLY helpful when practicing scales or repeating passages hundreds of times; we all know how irritating this is to others. Slip on headphones and get lost, undisturbed and without disturbing others. This aspect (even without great sound) would've been enough for me.For true classical purists, get the wide neck. The feel is exactly like a good classical guitar. The version with the smaller neck is just too cramped for classical playing. Again I suggest using it with a good pre-amp. It's worth it.Final note on Yamaha classical guitars: Many years ago, I was in a master class at the Royal Academy of Music in Madrid. I had Yamaha classical (my first guitar). EVERYONE else had a Ramirez. My teacher, a pupil of Segovia, heard my Yamaha and could NOT believe his ears!

Also the bass strings sound more "not like" the real bass strings on a real instrument than the treble strings do.- The model that I ordered is slightly narrower than the "standard" nut width -- two mm -- I would have wanted the full 50mm version, which Guitar Center does not carry. I am debating returning it and ordering the SLG200NW ('wide'). But it's not much of a difference really.- One of the biggest surprises was the "dirty" sound of the attack -- when one touches a string and it's resonating, you get a little "buzz" particularly on the bass strings -- this happens on my real guitar too of course, but the synthesis of the SLG seems to make it more prominent. Technique! Similarly, especially on the bass strings, improper position of finger proximate to frets makes a difference -- and improper finger placement creating interference with other strings too. In a sense this may actually help my playing -- the lovely warmth of my real guitar is perhaps too forgiving maybe of sloppy positioning and assuring clearance of other strings -- so controlling this on this guitar may actually improve my technique. Maybe?
I thought she'd kill me when another guitar or banjo came in. As for sound and portability here are my thoughts. The thing is a solid body instrument trying to sound like a hollow body acoustic. It comes very very close to doing that. It comes close to matching the Yamaha Trans-Acoustics, both into headphones or an amp. Its a bit heavier than the Martin Backpacker or Chinese versions. Lest heavy and smallest wound be the Traveler Guitar but this one sounds more electric that acoustic. The Voyage Air folding guitars sound great as acoustics, but still bulky when folded. Its great for silent or small venues and lots of fun. Just have reasonable expectation as it is not a full size dreadnought.
I *love* my Yamaha silent guitar (SLG200NW). There's something about practicing at night that appeals to me, but a regular acoustic is too loud, even with muted strings. The silent guitar is like a dream come true. The sensitive pickup and onboard electronics allow me to work on dynamics and tone production with very nice sounding output through the headphones. There is also an input jack that allows me to connect my metronome. It is everything I need to get real practice and playing without worrying about disturbing the family while they sleep. I returned the Yamaha and replaced it with a carefully chosen bargain-basement acoustic, fitting an under-saddle pick-up, carefully stuffing the body with foam dampers, and coupling it with a VOX Clean headphone amp. This makeshift solution does the job perfectly. I can now practice late at night without disturbing anybody, on a guitar that feels exactly like my other regular acoustics, with a good clean sound through the headphones. The Yamaha is a beautiful object capable of making some lovely sounds. What it isn’t, is a quiet substitute for an acoustic guitar. Not by a long way.Footnote: on the checkboxes below, under tone/sound quality, I've given it a one star on the basis that playing through headphones, which is a major selling point from Yamaha, sounds appalling. Through an amp, it sounds great; but that isn't the purpose of this guitar.

I have some very high end flamenco guitars like DeVoe, Culpepper, and others. I have wanted a practice guitar as well as a guitar to do local gigs with. This is that guitar. It's so well built and perfect for the traveling nylon string guitarist. It really produces a fantastic believable tone. The Preamp and mic blend/ EQ and reverb on the guitar are stellar I have tried a wireless with Sennheiser XSW that worked well but the x3 Evolution 3 seemed to have a few issues. The feel look and quality of the guitars build are top notch. I have not put it down since it arrived. I've had others say they are very impressed with the tone/sound sound of the guitar as well. The guitar is a keeper. I am working on getting a glopadore/ tap plate to work in conjunction with the Preamp. I like the medium tension DAddario EJ45 strings on the guitar. Sweetwater sent the guitar well packed and safe to me. They really do have the best customer service/support in the business and are hear to help musicians get the gear they need.
