Just OK-ish. Grippy in very specific situations. Slightly damp, loamy dirt is optimal. Mud or dry hardpack is bad for these treads. Durability in dry, rocky condition was poor. The already low treads were torn up by my local hardpack.

Great so far….rode them for about 300km so far on class 2 and 3 gravel…will be doing a 900km gravel bike packing trip later this summer. Preformed well in deep gravel and sand…have not had the chance yet to run them in the mud.Set them up tubeless…a little tight to get on the rim but achievable by hand.

I've used a number of tires and my initial impression of this tire are very positive. The first thing I noticed was how quiet and smooth the tire rolls. On pavement, it's barely audible.Rolling resistance is excellent. On hard pack, there is a noticable increase in speed. As with most xc category tires, there is a trade off in cornering grip, but with proper tire pressure I've had no problems with wash outs or skids. The only conditions I haven't used this on yet are wet roots but I'm not anticipating serious issues.I rode fast, hard, and with authority. This tire is my favorite so far on hard pack and loose over hard conditions. Hopefully longevity it's good but really, this price is attractive for a high quality tire.

Got exactly what was described, shipped the same day. An important detail is that I received what smelled and felt like fresh inventory. Too often a good deal means something has been sitting around a while. In this case, I am happy and will order more from Mike's again in the near future. I have not put the tires on yet since I'm still riding on the streets till the trails dry a little.
Just completed a 52 mile ride on these tires. 20 miles on pavement and 32 miles of mixed trail that includes all the standard obstacle courses. Mostly dry terrain. I was concerned about the rocky, technical downhills since these were 2.1 and installed on 19mm rims. Fully loaded the tires flawlessly handled 230lbs of weight at 27/30 PSI tubeless. For reference I’ve run Rocket Rons, Ardents, aggressors, trailboss in the past. I normally run Nobby Nic/Rock Razor on more technical stuff and Magic Mary’s front and rear on icy, deep, snow packed trails in the winter. The Mezcals generated almost no sound on pavement and were faster than anything I’ve tried on paved or hardpack.. Used way less wattage on steep climbs and never left the saddle as I normally would on some ... MoreJust completed a 52 mile ride on these tires. 20 miles on pavement and 32 miles of mixed trail that includes all the standard obstacle courses. Used way less wattage on steep climbs and never left the saddle as I normally would on some super steep paved uphills. Handled berms extremely well but did wash out rear slightly around a couple of loose rocky corners. Handled everything else with ease. Can’t wait for the 2.35s to go on sale. If not I’ll get em anyway. Folks, this is one of those tires you gotta try...
I've been using the Vittoria Mezcal G+ tires since they came out and these are the latest iteration of them. These roll very fast on the flats while still having quite a bit of grip while cornering. These last a long time and the sidewalls stand up well to abuse.Depending on how deep the center channel is on your wheels can mean the difference between these being easy or hard to mount. My 2014 Reynolds wheels (hardly any center channel) are really hard and need time and strong levers to work them on. My friends Enve wheels are easy, one lever and quick.I use them all year round in Nor Cal. In dry and hero dirt conditions, I go 2.25 Front and 2.1 Rear. When it gets muddy, I go 2.35 Vittoria Barzo Front and Mezcal 2.25 Rear.Lastly, a note on versions. There are three versions of this tire.Mezcal black wall, wire bead (the picture of this product) and is the low end, no graphene model.Mezcal Trail Anthracite wall, foldable with graphene is the tire described and I received from Moosejaw and I am reviewing above.Mezcal Race Skin Wall, foldable with graphene that has a lighter casing and less weight.
Pound for lb this is the best tire I've ridden, not that I've ridden all. Been on MAx dhf which i love deciced to try these based on reviews in that they are tough and really light. I knocked off a pound very noticeable. Being dry in summer so far they corner as well as dhf, suprisingly they are rock solid in loose dirt all the way down to hard pack. Not quite as good in the gravely stuff as the dhf. I look forward to riding when it gets wet here in the Pacific NW Couldnt b happier in the moist loam with the dhf as they are unstoppable Very fast rolling so the they dont brake as well as dhf, or keep there straight line ability as well.Brakin while cornering there excellent pedaling up hills is where the fast rolling really comes in very impressive.Havnt ridden any ... MorePound for lb this is the best tire I've ridden, not that I've ridden all. Not qite as well cilmbing when it gets real loose but comparable Still searching for the boundaries as I've discvered in the dhf in dry conditions.very sens.to preasure, so far i like about 22 or 3 in front and 20 21 back. Not in the same class as dhf but they're holding there own.
This is not a negative review, but the reason I'm posting is to highlight some shortcomings of this tire. Some reviews i read prior to purchase billed this as a superlight tire fast and grippy tire that, due to the new compound, was tougher than your average XC tire and could stand up to trail use. Its a good fast grippy tire for sure, but it has not stood up to my rocky home trails well at all. Multiple punctures and the sidewalls are showing threads. I have the 2.25s mounted on i9 enduro rims, and the sides of the tires stick out further than the tread, so they get scraped up easily and are not made for any kind of rocky or technical terrain. If you race xc, i highly recommend, but otherwise look eleswhere. For reference, i have also used a Maxxis Ignitor and ... MoreThis is not a negative review, but the reason I'm posting is to highlight some shortcomings of this tire. Also ran a Scwalbe Hans Dampf for awhile and had some wear and puncture issues, but nothing like the Mezcal. Grippy and fast for and XC tire, but dont be fooled that its anything else.
This tire worked extremely well in muddy conditions, it's designed for dry terrain. These tires gave me the confidence to lean the bike way over and drift both tires around the corner. Although it has light sidewalls, I have had great luck not puncturing them while going over many rocky trails. Running lower pressure made light work of mud and rocks. The one area where these tires become useless going over tree roots on even the slightest uphill, especially when damp. Be careful with this terrain. I hurt myself pretty bad when they slid on a rood while I was standing while pedaling. Hitting roots on straights or downhill becomes harry as well. I still give it 5 stars because it does not claim to be for wet weather and these scary moments are on wet or damp roots. ... MoreThis tire worked extremely well in muddy conditions, it's designed for dry terrain. Mezcal III TNT G+ 27.5 x 2.35 installed on SantaCruz Bronson, primarily ridden in Colorado Rockies, Moab, Fruita.Following a season of riding, these tires performed very well.+ Excellent traction on wide terrain surfaces- slickrock, rocky trails, sandy or loose soil.+ Rolling resistance feels to be better on these than the Vittoria Gomas I had before.+ Superb durability, no flats or air loss to date. There were times I nailed sharp rocks and the like on the thinking I was going to get a flat. There sidewall and treads show dings and scrapes but so far no pinch flats, no sidewall leaks, nada. Even with Stans, the original Mavic tires that came with the rims got flats what seemed like every ride...
