After having purchased and used sucessfully about five of the 16 gig Verbatim Store "N" Go brand USB sticks I moved up to the 32 gig size. After purchasing two at the same time and using them for about 3 or 4 months of use (and used about 19.5 gig of capacity each time) each flash drive became write-protected and will no longer function. Attempting to copy your files off of the stick is impossible as much of the data becomes corrupted. All attempts to work around the write-protection fails as there is a hidden directory that cannot be eliminated from the stick and the stick cannot be reformated. Verbatim's own recovery software does not work in this case.Maybe this is a bad bunch of USB drives from Verbatim. I purchased this as I thought it would be a great buy for the price for three. They don't work at all. None of the computers recognize that there is a flash drive inserted And they don't fit properly within their casing. Very cheap feel. I have to hold and push with my hand the connecting end and when you try to insert it into the USB port it won't stay out - it pushes back into its casing. All three are duds. Wasted my money. Get one that is a better quality. Sorry Verbatim, can't help you on this one.

I've got a ton of Lexar's and Adata's and 3rd world country cheapo USB's. They all toast this thing. It's got average speeds (big or small files) so why get it when it's built so bad? Their other products (I.E. black sliders) are far better built. Why did they make this thing? Horrible design decision, especially when plastic isn't a precious commodity! VERDICT: Save your money and get another model by them, or go with another brand. It's average, and if you need the security, just encrypt the files with another method (such as user account permissions or only as root, etc) or with a software solution (which is what is included it appears). 2/10 I got mine at 0ffice Depot for $9.99. Experience from previous flash drives from Verbatim. Formatted, transferred 500 tracks. Works great. Bought other items from B + H and we know we are buying an original item.
I bought this product hoping to get the product pictured. That's NOT what they sent. I actually ordered this item because I had dropped and broken the case on my current device. What I liked about my device is security is enabled by a single password which opens the device for file reading, no encryption of files. Had they accurately pictured the device (the picture is of a device that's probably 5-10 years old and which I wanted) they were going to send me, I would NOT have bought it.
I ordered this drive for an old sound board. We often have a red screen of death when trying to record onto the USB. That error has been random, seemingly. Our theory is that the 8GB drive we were using is too large for the board, which is probably expecting FAT16 formatting. So I ordered a pair of these 4GB drives. On our first attempt at using the drive it failed after a few minutes. There was no indication of size on the plastic housing, but when I extended the drive's USB plug and looked at the bottom, it says 8GB. The other downside is that the plastic is not grippy enough, and the slight raised ridge not high enough, to make it easy to open the drive with one hand. Since this is the first time I've ever used flash drives, I can't really rate the performance or know how long they normally last. Downloading everything I wanted to was easy enough, and fast. Next time I'll buy a larger one. I bought two of these, one for music, and the other for photos. I loaded approximately 475 photos on one, and I have room for more, even thought a few were as much as 25 MB each. Music, I'm not 100% sure how many tracks fit, as its full. I have just under 1,000 songs. So far though I'm pleased with these and would recommend them. How their longevity will be is obviously unknown, I have not heard of this brand before, I bought them because of the positive reviews. And the price was highly favorable.
As others have mentioned about the inserting them into a usb port issues, a bigger issue I encounter(on several different laptops) is these drives get VERY HOT..you will not be able to touch the metal portion if you leave it plugged in for awhile...this heat is going inside your computer and frying the insides. I took a sledge hammer to all the 6 I had and tossed them in the trash.See if yours gets hot.
25 June 2024. Verbatim Store and Go 4GB. Formatted the drive and moved 250 audio tracks. Works well well. Previous experience with other flash drives from Verbatim, also ordered from B + H. Happy.
