Uni KURU Toga Standard Mechanical Pencil 0.5 mm Orange

I thought the mechanism was cool, so I bought it. I turn the pencil in my hand while I write so that I can write on the pointier side, so it seems useful. However, I write in a blended "print-ive" where my letters swirl together. So it didn't work out well for me and I stopped using it.Another reason I stopped using it was I could feel the mechanism when I wrote, and it was really distracting. Maybe if I tried harder to ignore it, it would stop bothering me.

I got this pen 7 years ago and it's been fine. Like the lead available, style (orange showing through barrel), how it feels in my hand.So maybe I'm being hard on a plastic pencil, but I just noticed that the inside black is flaking off and it's looking pretty ugly. Guess that's the way they have to do it to leave the rest of the barrel see-through, but it's not a pleasure to use anymore when I look down and see that.

If you tend to write in cursive or in a hybrid of print/cursive (like I do) then it may not work as well since the lead is kept on the paper longer. I still think it works great. There isn't a rubber grippy which tends to be the first thing to get damaged on my mechanical pencils. Despite not having a grippy, it is still very comfortable which was really my main priority.

I love the color of the body, and keeps my lead/writing sharp and neat. I love the twisting action. However there is no grip for comfort. I hold my pencils with the end resting on my ring finger, and it can cause soreness after long time of writing. Fairly easy fit with getting a pencil grip.

Super smooth writing utensil. No skipping just a continued flow of lead and pencil. This is not a gimmick. It works and the demonstrator chamber shows the lead rotating with even the slightest pressure. This will be among your favorite when you need to quickly write.

The barrel is just plastic, and you might think this would make it bottom heavy, but it has perfect balance and the material is not an issue at all. Also, the clear plastic grip over the mechanism worried me because i thought my hand would be slipping, but the grip has excellent grooves that are gently sloping and fairly wide, making the grip effective and very comfortable. As a bonus, it seems to act as a shock absorber for the lead, which reduces the incidence of breaks and snapping. Faber Castell of Germany uses a shock absorber in its much-acclaimed Vario line. The Vario is made of plastic, too, and costs a lot more than this one does. If you can live with a non-retractable lead protecting tube (as it's called in US Patent 3914059), this is an excellent choice for everyday use. The Vario's lead protecting tube is also non-retractable. If you need the retractable tube, I suggest either the Pilot Vanishing Point pencil or either of the the A.G. That only happened once, and maybe because of the soft 2B lead grade.) The Kuru Toga has joined the white AG Sparlding and FC Vario as my favorite everyday mechanical pencils.

The rotation mechanism actually works as intended (much to my surprise :P), and is nice and helpful, though not exactly a game changer. The color is very nice, and the body is sturdy in general, though it feels a little plastic-ey. I dislike that the tip is metal and not retractable, as it makes it awkward to keep in your pocket all the time, but that's a symptom of the rotation mechanism. My biggest issue with this pencil is the eraser. While it's pretty standard for most pencils on this site, I've been spoiled by Pentel's massive twist up erasers, which never need replacing. Great pencil! So great that someone actually stole it from me :')This pencil always wrote sharp, small lines, and it was super consistent. I used it in my planner and in class daily, and I actually think it used less lead than my other mechanical pencils. The violet color is really cute too (I am a sucker for light purples).

No complaints at all, a perfect mechanical pencil with no problems at all. I would definitely recommend it to a friend. The perfect Christmas present for any writer. They say the rotating lead rounds it off and leads to less breakages. In my 5 hours in total of writing with this pen the lead only broke a couple times, more than likely because of my heavy handedness. In comparison to the bic mechanical pencils that would snap every few minutes if you weren't careful.
