Kudos to Amazon prime who delivered it to me on 31 Dec 2021, when I ordered on the eve of 30 Dec 2021, and it was not supposed to get here until 3-4 Jan 2022.When I opened the box, it was like Darth Maul himself jumped in front of me and led me to the dark side. It comes in black and red... a true Sith gaming router. I have set up many routers before, but opening the box and seeing in black lettering... very bold dark black letters over a slightly less black background: "Let the Games Begin." I was taken by excitement. One may ask how much more black can it get, and you can't help but think "none... none more black."I installed the Tether App in my mobile from the App Store, and begun the process. No more bureaucracy! The app led me to a successful installation. I wanted to have things installed from scratch so I did each device. But the router installation was incredibly easy. The system is SUPER stable. The only minor issue was I had to reset my Vonage internet phone device (with a hard reset... took less than a minute), and it was up and running. Fortunately my Verizon broadband did not require me to clone the MAC address, so everything was smooth sailing. The App is a really good way to control the router. It has very useful functions to boost gaming performance, pause services, profile-based parental control. Fairly impressive. There some really good anti-malware protection in the router itself, and you can setup auto firmware update and auto reboot (always good to give your cache and hardware a break). The biggest reason to buy this router though, is its amazing Tri-band feature. It automatically makes all channels have the same SSID. So although you have the standard 2.4GHz Channel, and the ever popular 5GHz band, you have an additional 5GHz Gaming Band which can take performances up a notch. I mean this router goes to 11! The LAN connectivity to your provider is 2.5Gbps, but if you need to you can opt to use the 1Gbps port. Like I said, all three SSIDs share same name... so if you name it "SithEmpire666" then when you add a device to the WiFi LAN, all you do is enter the name... the device will be automatically connected and switched to the one with best performance or the supported performance... so if you have an older device that only supports 2.4, then that will be taken care of automatically. This is a great new year indeed! Take that 2021 and 2020!!!I recommend this to anyone.

Pros: With 25 connected devices this router performs flawlessly with the Virgin Gig1 service. I get 1.2Gbps from the modem to the router and Ethernet tops out at 940mbps. The range of options on the router make assigning IP addressed and other changes easy as well as monitoring network traffic. The range is fantastic as well with signal reaching all corners of the house. An added bonus is the ease of quick NAS and also the 160mhz third band for exceptional performance in the correct circumstances.Cons: I think the gaming functions of the router serve little to no purpose and I personally ignore these entirely. I’m sure they could be of use but for those looking I would say ignore the fact this is a ‘gaming’ router and look at it as an exceptional tri band Wi-Fi 6 ... MorePros: With 25 connected devices this router performs flawlessly with the Virgin Gig1 service. Amazing bit of kit with a massive range.I posted below some pics of speeds taken with phone and Laptop not in the same room with the router, but in the other room. These speeds are impressive because they reach LAN ethernet levels.I have also tested in other rooms too, on the ground floor ( where the router is ) the speeds vary between 400 to 900.Upstairs the speeds are 300-550mbps.This router has solved a lot of issues i had previously, where i even tried powerlines and mesh and still couldn’t get these speeds and this signal.Only slight issue with this router is that it is massive in size, apart from that, i will definitely recommend it if you have a good fibre connection and want to take advantage of it.

Pros:- Super easy/fast setup- Handles many many connected devices very well- Companion iOS app works well and has the features I need/wantCons:- Expensive- Looks audacious (I don't like the way it looks...you may, regardless, it's OUT THERE)- Not all named devices show up properly in the routing table (i.e. My wireless cameras have network names but the router only sees the IP address. You can name devices manually though)- Local network throughput is much lower than I hoped for (Note: I may have other local network issues contributing to this but low speeds show up between wireless and wired clients)- Internet scheduling is broken (i.e. You can NOT setup a schedule that goes from 11PM to 7AM; you can setup a schedule from 7PM to 12PM or from 12AM to 7AM though. In other words, you can't have a schedule that refers to both AM and PM in the same schedule)Background:I got this router for one main reason...my ISP provided MODEM/router was struggling to keep up with the demands of my growing connected devices. I was encountering three problems: 1) Devices would keep disconnecting from the MODEM/router; 2) Connected devices would "contend" over internet access which caused issues with browsing and streaming; 3) I had to reboot the MODEM/router weekly so it could regain its sanityI was looking to solve the above problems and an additional benefit I was looking forward to was related to parental controls by setting up schedules, quotas, and remote disconnect of devices.Experience/Process:I ran some tests before buying this router and determined that my internet speed/bandwidth was not my issue. So I researched a router that had multiple antennae and beefed up processing power. The setup was super easy and the app used to manage the router has the basic features I was looking for. I have a complex network with multiple routers, switches, and connected devices (both wired and wireless). With full home automation, smart appliances, five family members all with multiple connected devices, and relentless visiting of friends and extended family members, I expected the transition from old to new to be a little more painful. This was not the case. I followed the simple directions and after a couple of reboots I have done almost nothing to adjust/tweak the new router. The new router has been running for a few weeks now and shows no signs of requiring a reboot. No devices have disconnected and browsing/streaming experience is excellent now. Although there is a fair amount of gaming in the house, all gaming devices (consoles and PC's) are wired so I can't speak to wireless latency quality.Overall Impressions:I'm super happy with the router because now I can use the internet without thinking about it again...it just works and it's fast. The price tag was pretty hefty though and I'd care less if the access scheduling worked properly and I had better throughput when transferring files between local network clients. That said, scheduling and local file transfers were not the reasons I bought this router and both scheduling and local file transfers are still better than my ISP provided MODEM/router. In the end, it still feels like a win. If you have many connected devices and your internet experience has gotten worse over time, this is probably a great option for you. If you're looking for a wireless gaming router, I have no reason to believe it would not perform as expected but...all of my gaming devices are wired.

I was using a router (whose name rhymes with Getnear) in part, as a media server for my 4 Bose speakers. Its media server would work directly with the Bose Soundtouch software. It was a sweet setup.Unfortunately, I would need to reset the Wi-Fi connection to the speakers at least once a day; if not more. It was infuriating. With the Archer GX90 the Wi-Fi connection is rock solid - no lost connections - no drop-offs - at all!One caveat, however, is I could not get the Archer's built-in media server to work directly with the Soundtouch software like it did with the other router. The system log does not behave as expected. It doesn't show any nefarious activity e.g. blocked access attempts. It seems to only show its own internal activity. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the GX90 and I would buy another TP-Link router in the future.
I've been doing some in-depth testing between the TP-Link GX90, AX90, AX6000, and an Asus RT-AX88U (latest version of Merlin), and the GX90 won out for me.I setup all of the routers in the same spot and tested their signal strength and speed from three different locations on three different floors in my home . The AX88U gave the best signal strength from all three locations, but not by much. In terms of speed, the GX90 and AX90 were the fastest. Keep in mind the GX90 and AX90 support Wifi 6 and are tri-band routers. The AX6000 and AX88U took a massive hit when testing between floors and support Wifi 6, but are only dual-band routers.I've attached a spreadsheet comparing SOME of the specs of all four routers. When it comes down to it, the GX90 has similar hardware specs (not the same) to the AX90 and similar software to the AX6000. I believe the GX90 also has some performance tweaks, since it's suppose to be geared towards gamers. The only downside to GX90 are the fixed antennas. There's no way to position them like you can with the other three models I compared. For optimal performance, make sure you setup the router as close as possible to the middle of your home. Please note that TP-Link is a Chinese company that has questionable business practices, and it's the reason why many consumers avoid their products.
Wireless routers are one of those things it's hard to get excited about. Let's face it; unless they're out in plane sight, most folks don't even know they exit! They are the hidden workhorse of appliances that do all the hard stuff behind the scenes. Not THIS wireless router though! This one is VERY hard to miss! For one thing, it's gigantic, and if you read the full specs, it weighs a touch over 6 POUNDS!! Who makes routers THAT big and THAT heavy?! Well, apparently TP-LINK does! Over the years I've owned and continue to own too many TP-LINK devices to count (six as of this writing), and their longevity and reliability are second to none. They just WORK and do what they're SUPPOSED to do, right out of the box! What else could you ask for? How about a wireless router ... MoreWireless routers are one of those things it's hard to get excited about. Let's face it; unless they're out in plane sight, most folks don't even know they exit! That's what THIS router looks like! And who puts an 8-port network switch in their routers?! Again, that'd be TP-LINK! I've never seen an 8-port switch in ANY router before this one! But, the bottom line is PERFORMANCE! That's where the tires meet the road, and this baby cranks out performance like NO OTHER ROUTER! Check out my Speedtest screenshot, and I think you'll agree. It's the best performance I've EVER seen from a router! Yes, I have Gigabit Fiber, and it's SUPPOSED to be fast! I bought two other routers before this one, and neither of them were anywhere NEAR this level of performance! The built-in user interface is VERY impressive and VERY easy to use! I've been using routers since the 90s and there were a few options I had to Google to find out what they even were! That's a FIRST too! Everything just works the way it's supposed to, and while this router is a bit pricey, you get what you pay for ... and you get a LOT!If you want the best, this is it. And that IS the bottom line!
