These work just as expected, but I quickly realized that in order to keep the backups I desire, I'm really only able to utilize half of what I purchased (should have considered that on purchase). I'm returning them just to get double size.

There are many brands of drives that I avoid for their high failure rate, and as they increasing become manufactured by the same company, it can be hard to avoid the,. Synology is new to me, but anything is better than the popular brands that I KNOW are going to fail. We'll see how it goes over the long term with this one.

Got DS923+ and was looking for really good drives. My first NAS ever. I am experienced with building high end gaming pcs. Compared these drives with Seagate Ironwolf. Same price for 8TB drives. Synology offers support for their branded drives (good or bad - no debates). Made a call to play it safe and got two of these boys. no issues - worked like a charm with absolutely no issues. They are pretty quiet. Ofcourse, if they work as advertised for years, I will be super happy. I cannot comment on the longevity yet. But out of the box, they are performing great. 8TB for me is plenty at the moment. Loving all Synology products and accessories.
