because it was a Stanley make, i thought it would be safe in buying it. I was wrong, it broke apart within a week. You very kindly sent a replacement without charge and I appreciate that, but it is too soon to see how long this will last. I certainly will not buy a Stanley again, but not your fault, all you do i sell them.

Got the measure

I have always used Stanley tapes and when the opportunity comes up to get two for nearly the price of one, it’s a no brainier.Solid construction, very clear to read and no fading makes these stand out. Perfect weight for the pocket and a very good locking mechanism. Whilst in America I also purchased an Imperial only one for nostalgia as old boys like me still like the sound of....“cut at 13 & 11/16ths”....Must thank Tara at the Newton Abbot store for alerting me to the ‘deal’ as I only ordered one originally.

Great performance at a great price.

More expensive than budget tape measures but well worth the extra. Smooth and full retracts even when over extended. Nicely stiff as well so you can get a decent amount of tape out in fresh air before it will collapse (if you ever use a tape measure you will know what I mean). For the price, you can’t go wrong.

Mid Range good quality product.

Not able to justify a higher priced Tape for my occasional rather than daily use, this one has proved a pleasure to use.The scale is very clear, with the first Imperial Foot marked in good old 32nds of an inch, as well as the usual 16ths etc. The scale has a Tylon coating, whatever that is, but this means the edges are not finger slitting sharp and also ensures a smooth return into the case. The scale coating offers some surface protection, so will be more durable than cheaper tapes with the scale simply printed on. There is no tendency for the tape to kink, so up to now has proved a satisfying purchase. Has a good quality feel in use. Good value item, but getting it out of the packaging took a craft knife and a fair amount of care.

Not good for a Stanley

I bought this Stanley 8mtr tape measure on my way to carry out survey work on shop fronts as part of my job as I’d left my usual Stanley 10mtr tape at home. I must say on the first site I got to I was bitterly disappointed. I pulled the tape out about 6 mtrs & it would not retract. I tried pulling it out further to engage the spring, it did retract but left about 1 mtr of tape sticking out of the case. I ended up having to virtually pull it out to its maximum & allow it to retract at speed in order to try to get it back in. This wasn’t a one off, each time I used it the same thing kept happening. I spent longer trying to get it to retract than to measure the job site. I will be returning it to Screwfix for a refund. Robust yet compact

It's a tape measure, so writing about it is fairly unexciting, however as tape measures go, I needed an 8 m rule and I have had a Stanley before which If I hadnt lost, would still be going strong. Good mechanism, good strong tape. An around excellent product which does what it should do

Hi quality tape measure. Feels nice in your hand, not too heavy but does have some weight to it!Very smooth mechanism with a satisfying snap when you lock it in place

The expanding steel tape measure was as expected, Stanley being among best tools available. I was more impressed with the store in Norbury. The item was easy to order for collection; and collection was swift and simple. The young lady who dealt with me was friendly and courteous despite being very busy. I was in and out of the store in seconds, too quickly to get a parking ticket!

My only criticism is that, as with all such tapes (whoever the manufacturer) the end rivets always allow a degree of play. It may be ok for lengthier and less critical measurements, but a problem shorter measurements, and for accuracy without constant adjustment for the amount of play caused by loose riveting.
