The screen is unbelievable, I've got great picture, more realistic picture and the sound quality is great for TV without a soundbar or home theatre system.Overall, one of the best purchases in the last 3 months for myself. I bought this TV considering its specs look wonderful and for the sale price it was available to buy on.I was very disappointed with overall quality of the TVBrightness is not that great, HDR content is too dark. Gaming is good though. On top, we have a massive light bleed at the bottom central pane and it really distracts to view anything in dark scenes, your eyes won't see anything else but wander to that spot.I used it for 2 weeks plus and I tried all sorts of calibration to see if I can achieve the best quality, however, I strongly feel this TV quality is what it is and I can't make it work better.I decided to return this product and I'm now waiting for refund process. Bought in the Black Friday sale from JB hifi for $1500 including delivery. Very happy to get a 75” Sony for that price. Been using the TV now for over 2 months and am generally happy with it. Smart in a bad way if you have something smarter

I have the NVIDIA Shield TV, so I don't need the Android TV installed inside the TV. But I have to deal with it. By dealing with it, I mean - sometimes it does not start with the right HDMI input active. Not always, but regularly, enough to annoy you because you have to find its original remote and switch the input. And it happens not only with Shield; the same issue exists with PS5. You can make it less smart by refusing to log in to your Google account. In this case, you can still access the Netflix or other Streaming apps preinstalled on the TV. But it will try to show you ads on the Home screen. Then, System notification -- the TV will show them to you even if you use an external source. I've just blocked the internet for it in my router and removed permissions to show notifications for some system apps.Sometimes, it starts like it was not in a Standby mode but was completely turned off, and in this case, you have to switch input manually again.TV supports HDMI CEC; It supports auto-switching to the Game mode for PS5 and returns to your other choice for input. The picture itself is good.HDR support does exist only for FullHD resolution (by PS5 report).Unfortunately, my return window is closed.

Sony Bravia TV? Yay! Google TV? Meh...
19 January 2024

I've always been a fan of Sony TVs. The Bravia series in particular has always been really solid. Got my first one back in 2013, and Sony keeps putting out great TVs with excellent picture & color & performance. Works great for watching movies & playing console video games, and I'm actually using it right now as a monitor for my Mac computer. Pretty much flawless. My only issue is the fact that it's a Google TV. This isn't a Google vs. Apple issue (although I admittedly very much prefer the Apple platform over Google), but more of a functionality issue. There are aspects of the Google TV user experience that I've been pleasantly surprised with (I particularly like being able to create a kids' account with easily manageable restrictions), but navigating the interface still seems a bit convoluted, particularly when using a normal non-kids' account. I'd love to be able to customize on which tab the interface menu begins as their default is needlessly crammed with stuff."Check this out! Wouldn't it be awesome if you watched this? Don't forget about this one!" I get it, Google. Settle down a bit. If you're going to show me options, afford me the control to select which options I want. That said, I do believe the very-affordable price point comes as part of Google's partnership with Sony, so I'm grateful that it made this TV more affordable for the upgrade we wanted to do. I think Google could just do a better job with their user interface. They gush about the depths of customization they allow on their platforms & hardware that I'm surprised by how restrictive this interface is. Simplify!

[Rewarded Review] Decent for the price but cost cutting is evident
18 November 2023

Just what we needed, a good no frills android based TV. I'm disappointed with the continued cost cutting, though Sony is not the only one doing it. Ther is no headphone jack on this model unlike all our other Sony TV's, some thing I would have happily paid the extra $5 - $10 up charge for. The 3.5 mm jack makes it super easy to connect auxillary speakers with out having to spend a lot of money. I tried two different brands of USB to 3.5mm dongles and neither was worth the money spent. They worked so intermittently where the sound would just drop without warning. So I would have to get up and fiddle with it only to have it drop again afee minutes later. Finally frustrated, ordered an optical to 3.5mm adaptor at a higher price. This is a spare bedroom set up so its fine its just that had Sony no omitted the Jack, I'd have scored it higher.

Ok I’ll try searching for it, search for it, okay found the app, click on it and it immediately starts playing a movie called Max. Every time I go to use the app, immediately starts playing this random movie. When i started watching something, the fast forward/rewind controls dont work. Only other button to press is pause/play. The Google Assistant/voice control doesnt work 90% of the time. It will acknowledge a command but then wont excute. Downloaded the MAX (HBO) app, MAX does not show up in the home page under Apps. Maybe the Google assistant doesnt work because during setup i did not give them permission to gather and sell my personal data. I would definitely exchange this TV if it weren’t such a hassle to return. The only reason im giving it 2 stars is because of the SONY compatibility features with PS5. Im sure the other problems would be excusable if i was exclusively using my PlayStation to watch TV. If you dont own a PlayStation console, save yourself the trouble and buy a different TV. Take my word for it, everything about this TV designed by Google is genuinely terrible, not thought out, and clearly didn’t go through enough product testing. Somehow not surpirising that the largest tech company in the world makes absolutely terrible software.

[Rewarded Review] Excellent entry level 4K TV

I chose the X77L as a replacement for our 13 year old HD Bravia. I stuck with SONY because I feel the company still makes quality products that last. The picture quality is great- colors pop, plenty of brightness, and of course the images are sharp with 4K content.Google TV is OK as the smart TV interface. Apps are easy to install and work fine. I really wanted to play my converted movies through an external hard drive, but the TV seems to reject whatever I plug in (they are formatted ExFat which should work).Sound is about as good as you’d expect from a thin TV. It’s nice and clear, and gets loud. But there’s not much bass or depth. It’s fine, but if you want good sound, you use a soundbar or theater system. There are only 3 HDMI ports, so if you have ... MoreI chose the X77L as a replacement for our 13 year old HD Bravia. It is for me- I’m going to have to buy an HDMI switch for sure.Setup was easy. I think we had the apps we use and all updates done in about 15 minutes. If you want to disable motion flow, you’ll have to do it for each input (and the Google TV apps). Not a big deal, but wish this was off by default.Overall, I feel great about my purchase. It’s a worthy upgrade and if it lasts as long as our last SONY, I’ll be really happy.
