I tried Calcium Carbonate for a few months and didn't see much results. I specifically am calcium deficient and have brittle nails. This was a calcium citrate that I heard is absorbed better. I like the veggie capsules because the tablets are a bit unpalatable and have an aftertaste. This brand is super powdery so just make sure to wash your hands after handling, but otherwise easy to swallow and does make a difference.

The reason I chose this particular brand and variety of calcium is that I read that calcium citrate is absorbed just as well when taken without food, as opposed to only with food like other varieties of calcium, and because calcium citrate is recommended for people with low stomach acid, inflammatory bowel disease, or absorption disorders. (I have the latter two.) After all, our body has to be able to ABSORB the vitamin to reap any benefits. Supposedly calcium supplements are better absorbed when taken in small doses of 500 mg or less and with food, so I break these tablets in half and try to take them at mealtimes. If I miss a mealtime, I feel better knowing that this calcium citrate is still being absorbed by my body.
Solaray Calcium Citrate, 1000 mg is packaged in a shaded plastic bottle. I take this to supplement the calcium available in food. Bone density improvement is necessary for bone health while we age. The gel caps are easy to swallow, there is no after taste nor stomach upset. As an added benefit my nails and hair appear stronger and healthier. My one negative is be aware a "serving size" is TWO capsules. I noticed the 1000 mg is not the strength of ONE capsule but TWO after taking for one month. oops!

This is the first time I have purchased this product.The product was sealed but the inside of the bottle is covered in powder. There was no cotton to prevent capsules from moving around. I assume this is the cause of powder in the bottle if a capsule broke open. When I get the capsules out my fingers are covered in powder. Should I continue taking them?
