Good USB Drive for Storage Size/Price. Nice design for packing around. A little slow on write speeds

I threw it on my key chain and it looks great and is not clunky feeling. The design tapers out at the ring a bit, but I don't think the ring is any wider than a standard USB flash drive. You shouldn't have any issues with it bumping next to another connected USB device. After connecting it to a USB 3.0 port on my desktop computer, I opened and ran CrystalDiskMark. I changed USB ports and ran the test again. I won't post the next findings but I will mention the average (out of 5 tests) sequential write speed was even lower at 20.62 MB/s. Benchmarks may not mean a lot to some users, but I was expecting no lower than 40 MB/s write speeds. I had a very similar experience when testing the Silicon Power 32GB Blaze B05 USB 3.0 Flash Drive. The drive does read faster by about 30 MB/s though and is faster overall. I figured, I'd give it one more shot with a real life test and copied a 3.81 GB ISO image to the drive via SATA III to USB3.0 speeds. It wrote at 22.4 MB/s at it's highest and dropped as low as 16.6 MB/s. It took about 2 minutes and 30 seconds for the transfer. I ran a quick format to NTFS and tried the file transfer again. Results were the same with the highest cap at 22.2 MB/s and the lowest at 16.6 MB/s. Again, the transfer took about 2 and a half minutes to complete. The drive is formatted as Fat32 by default, but you'll probably want to change it to NTSF or exFAT for larger files. It also comes with recovery software pre-loaded. Overall, this is a standard USB drive that will be just fine for most users. If you are looking for a super fast write speed, this won't get you there. However, if you want a sleek drive that you can throw on a backpack or key ring to hold files for class, this is your drive for the price.

Good budget flash drive

The metal housing of this flash drive is quite nice; it provides for a durable design that is easy to attach to a key-chain and the loop makes it much easier to pull out of a USB port. Metal conducts heat much better than plastic so this drive does get notably warm to the touch when in use, but this is a common trait of metal housed flash drives. I would have liked to see an activity light and some sort of cap (which would be immediately lost) to keep pocket lint out of the connector, but aside from these two complaints I cannot fault the design. The flash drive was detected immediately by every computer I tried it in and the speeds are pretty solid for a budget minded drive. My drive arrived formatted in FAT32 with exactly 60 GB of free space. My drive arrived formatted in FAT32 with exactly 60 GB of free space. CrystalDiskMark benchmarked the drive with a sequential read of 132 MB/s and a sequential write of 51 MB/s; transferring a video file yielded speeds of about 120 MB/s read and 40 MB/s write. There are flash drives that are much faster than this, but they are much more expensive. I don't have the equipment to properly test the shockproof claim, but the drive did survive several minutes of use as a cat toy on a tile floor. I was, however, able to test the waterproof claim. I put the drive in a glass of water for just shy of 23 hours and after about 10 minutes of drying, it continued to work perfectly fine. I also stress tested the drive with over 70 passes of writing and wiping the drive and it has yet to have a single problem. Plus, if something does go wrong with the internals of the drive, Silicon Power offers a lifetime warranty. Overall, I like this flash drive. The metal housing is robust while remaining compact, the fact that it is waterproof further adds to the peace of mind, and the speeds are nothing to complain about. Couple that with the low price and the lifetime warranty, and I would definitely recommend this flash drive.

Great looking, fast-reading USB drive

This drive came formatted as FAT32, which means that in order to write files larger than 4GB, the drive needs to be reformatted. This is the first thing that I did - into ExFAT format, which is compatible with larger file sizes and not tied to a Windows operating system like NTFS formatting. I used 3 sets of data to evaluate this drive – Small, Large, and Giant: Small – 400 files at 500KB-20MB each, total 3.6 GB (simulating pictures or music) Large – 24 files at 350MB each, total 8.2GB (simulating TV shows, small video/audio editing files) Giant – a single 7.6GB file (simulating a 1080p feature-length movie, or a larger video/audio editing file. All tests were read from, and written to, an NVMe SSD well beyond the bandwidth capability of a normal flash drive, and with extremely low latency – this guaranteed that the speed of the flash drive was being evaluated, and the results were not affected by the source (for writes to the flash drive) or destination (for reads from the flash drive). Small: Write 4:20 (260 sec) – 13.8 MBPS Read 0:15 – 240 MBPS Large: Write 6:59 (419 sec) – 19.5 MBPS Read 1:00 – 137 MBPS Huge: Write 6:30 (390 sec) – 19.5 MBPS Read 0:38 – 201 MBPS This drive may have you waiting around for longer than you might like. I was disappointed to find that this drive’s write speeds are fairly low, but I was glad to find that read speeds are excellent. Worried that the file system may have had an effect on the write speeds, I reformatted the drive to NTFS, and found no increase in speed. Overall, I believe that this drive would be a great choice for data that needs to be loaded once, but accessed quickly many times, such as carrying a copy of Windows to install on a group of computers. It would perform acceptably as a simple data storage device, such as USB storage for music in a car, media box, or game console, or for basic file transfers. If your focus is writing large files to a USB drive often, there are better write speed performers out there at this price point.

I Like IT. Ya can never have too many Flash Drives

The drive was designed to be a key ring. I would never use a flash drive that way. Keys take a pounding. I would forget that I have a sensitive electronic device as a key ring and it would take abuse it is not designed to. If you loaned your keys to someone they would not care. I prefer to think of what can I do with 64 GB of portable storage. Of course there are all the files that can be carried but there is more. My Blu-Ray player has USB input. If I would rather not spend a disc I can copy to the J80 and watch my videos that way. Yes, my Blu-Ray reads USB3. Have some files you want cross country but don't have the bandwidth allowance to upload them. Put them on the J80 and mail it. Cheap. Want to boot two gazillion linux distros? WHY ???? AARRGGHHHH !! You can do ... MoreThe drive was designed to be a key ring. I would never use a flash drive that way. Keys take a pounding. Have some files you want cross country but don't have the bandwidth allowance to upload them. Put them on the J80 and mail it. Cheap. Want to boot two gazillion linux distros? WHY ???? AARRGGHHHH !! You can do it with the J80. Spend some time and think of the possibilities beyond benchmarks and read/write speeds. Two Examples: What I did: I used Macrium to image my C: drive and had the J80 as the destination. I thought it would take days(not really, but a long time) it didn't the whole process was rather quick. I was impressed. That is a real world benchmark. Sorry I don't have the data. I lost it I copied the contents of my Doom3 folder to the J80 and plugged it into my i3 laptop. Is data transfer fast enough to play the game off the J80? Yes. If all you are going to do is benchmark the J80 then you will be disappointed. CrystalDiskMark 5.0.3 x64 Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 33.898 MB/s Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 25.687 MB/s Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 3.908 MB/s [ 954.1 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1.181 MB/s [ 288.3 IOPS] Sequential Read (T= 1) : 34.399 MB/s Sequential Write (T= 1) : 26.426 MB/s Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 3.756 MB/s [ 917.0 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 1.100 MB/s [ 268.6 IOPS] Flash drives are akin to fast food french fries. There is a lot of profit in them or there wouldn't be so many companies selling them. The J80 doesn't seem to distinguish itself but if you search the Newegg reviews for 5 Egg USB 3 flash drives and read the reviews even those drives costing twice as much and CLAIMING faster write speeds don't seem to deliver much faster results then the J80. For the price and capacity this is an acceptable choice. Do as I do though, never put critical data on a USB drive unless you have a copies.

This drive i

This drive is a great design for carrying on a keychain. The metal case helps prevent it from getting damaged by keys, drops, etc. I carried it around for the last few weeks with my keys and had no issues. The packaging states that it is waterproof as well and carries a lifetime warranty (with registration). It's also kinda stylish for a flash drive. The drive seems to be quick enough for most tasks as far as flash drives go. I didn't do any benchmarks. I wouldn't throw huge files on this and expect it to be a snap, but I think most people wouldn't have any issues. Formatted capacity shows as an even 60 GB. I thought that this might benefit from some kind of dust cap, but maybe they want water to easily escape if it gets wet. I think dirt might be a bigger concern ... MoreThis drive is a great design for carrying on a keychain. I can't find any issues with the drive. As long as it holds up to normal use I'll be a happy camper.

I notice that someone already did a Crystal Disk Mark speed test, so I used a different software package to give some (perhaps) different results. My speed test via Roadkil's Disk Speed Version 2.0 reveals the below results. Overall the drive performs as expected for an inexpensive USB 3.0 flash drive. Random read speed is relatively slow with small file types; linear read speed is very fast, especially with larger file types. This is par for all of these products. .82ms access time 54.27 MB/sec cached speed 124.69 MB/sec max read speed Overall score of 17155.9 1KB blocks linear read speed - 6.01 MB/sec 1KB blocks random read speed - 1.18 MB/sec 8KB blocks linear read speed - 50.62 MB/sec 8KB blocks random read speed - 8.32 MB/sec 1024KB blocks linear read speed - ... MoreI notice that someone already did a Crystal Disk Mark speed test, so I used a different software package to give some (perhaps) different results. [Rewarded Review] SyncToy's best friend

I hate the cloud, and synchronize with a flashdrive and the simple software synctoy. it's worked out very well for me for years now. It all relies on a having a stylish an unintrusive flashdrive. This is the best I could find in terms of intersection of price, capacity, and design. Caution: I had one which failed in 18 months (bought elsewhere). I bought the same again, because a new scan of the market revealed nothing better that's this well designed and stylish.
