Decided to upgrade from the Ultegra 6800 front mech. Glad I did. The 9100 is simple to set up, with no figuring out which angle the cable needs to be routed, with a low profile minus the activation arm. Another big advantage is the trim function at the derailleur itself so no longer a need for an in-line barrel djuster at the bar. Smooth, precise gear change operations. If you're considering this upgrade, don't hesitate. Well worth every penny.

I use Dura-Ace components wherever I can. Shifting is smooth. Cable threading can be a little tricky and adjustments aren't as intuitive as with simpler designs, but it works well as one would expect of Dura-Ace. The top plastic link cover that retains the cable end pops off occasionally but it's easy to pop back on. Note: If you're using this as a brazed-on installation, assure the support bolt backup plate is in the correct position on the seat tube so you don't damage your frame.

Wish I'd upgraded sooner as the effort to change up on my old DA seems like a Herculean task compared with the effortless shifting now. Also love the new cable routing / tensioning and easy set up. Well worth it and not that expensive.

This is an incredible improvement on the previous DA derailleur. Cable entry is clean with no long cable arm swinging around to nick your calf or the tire. The derailleur is incredibly simple to set up making me wonder why it took them so long to design a road derailleur this way. It's the first front derailleur that went on as described without additional fiddling needed.I strongly suggest buying the band clamp version if that's what your frame takes. It is even easier to set up than the braze-on version.
My old Dura Ace front derailleur was pretty beat up and since I was getting the new RD-R9100 rear derailleur, I figured, what the heck. This front derailleur is way more complicated than any I've ever seen. It has more moving parts than is typical and includes an integrated cable tension adjustment. Shifts smoothly and runs quietly.
I have been on Dura Ace 9000 for 6 years now but when learning that Dura Ace 9100 would be Shimano's last mechanical Dura Ace I had to upgrade. The FD is an improvement over the already wonderful 9000 FD. Completely new design and adjustment but it was easy and I enjoy those crisp, mechanical shifts!
I decided to upgrade my SL3 from Ultegra to Dura Ace, "cool jewelry." The 9100 is self-adjusting, fast and smooth, not to mention very efficient. Di2 on my SL6 S-Works is jealous of this gorgeous mechanical groupset.
A little complicated to set up. Needed a YouTube video. Shimano engineers overthought this one. Once you get it set up, it works. Still a bit of a pain.
Shimano has once again improved on a their Dura Ace derailleur when I thought it was impossible to make it any better. This design requires almost no effort to shift, the cable tension adjuster has now been incorporated into the derailleur itself and the cable lock nut and limit screws both allen head screws for ease of adjustment. Plus it looks awesome.
I bought this to replace a 10 or 15 year old Dura Ace front derailleur on a 1978 steel frame Bob Jackson with 130mm dropouts and narrow spaced cranks, about a 39mm chainline. It does not go close enough to the frame to shift to the smaller chainring. This was obvious without running a chain through it.There are some nice advantages to 39 or 40mm chainline and I am not changing that chainline just for a new derailleur when the old ones still shift quite well.I have no 43.5mm chainline setups to test so I do not know if it works there.This will be returned. Also this probably means that Shimano Di2 12 speed will not work on these bikes either. Archer Components here we come.
