Switched out the M6100 12 speed cassette on my Vitus Sommet 297 CR with one of these M8100 cassettes, and there is a considerable weight difference between the two. I can't say performance is any different, but there's definitely a weight savings benefit. On my digital scale, the M6100 came in at 588g and the M8100 came in at 455g. That may not sound like much, but you can really feel the weight difference in your hand, which means you're dropping some weight on your bike, and it's rotational mass. Not much to say other than another great Shimano product, that's a pretty good bang for your buck when looking at other options.

This cassette is extremely well made. Probably equivalent in tooth profile build quality to the Eagle cassettes. I can't afford to spend $389 on an Eagle X01 cassette each time I wear it out. Plus, five of the smallest cogs are replaceable. This setup runs really well with my SRAM XX1 shifter and derailleur. I am running a SRAM XX1 chain, which seems to work well. The system seems much smoother and quieter than SRAM Eagle. I am totally pleased with this purchase. I will likely change all by mountain bikes to this setup.Cons:It weighs more, and requires a micro-spine freewheel in order to adapt to an SRAM hub.

The cassette is just fine but it's being advertised as an XT and it's not. Judging by the price and the pic I knew that I was buying a Deore cassette but the fact is, during my web search an XT cassette that was listed for a cheaper price than most of the Deore cassettes I've seen naturally compelled me to navigate to the Als.com because it sounded too good to be true. Of course, it was. However, they still got the sale because I was actually searching for a Deore and Al's was a couple of buck's cheaper than the others. Still, you should properly advertise the product!
I have been a die hard SRAM fan for a long time, and had planned on staying that way for the rest of my life, that was until I was building a new bike and was in need of a cassette and the only one available was the new 12 speed XT. I purchased it, with a new 12 speed XT chain, to see what the rage about hyper glide is all about. 2 months into riding, I'm blown away by the shifting performance, there cassette shifts extremely well under load going up and down the range. I'll be using shimano cassettes and chain paired with SRAM mechs and shifters for the foreseeable future.
Following converting from Sram to Shimano, the cassette has been excellent. Done just under 200Km and it hasn't missed a beat. Westbrook confirmed the freewheel hub, best Cassette and chain - all works well together. The fitting (converting from Sram to Shimano)and setup took a bit of time to get right, if doing this allow time if you're not familiar with the switch.A bit pricey for what it is, thus 4* and not 5.
Upgraded from an 11-42 11 speed SRAM NX system to this 10-51 12 speed shimano setup. This cassette's range is no joke, and it is surprisingly light thanks to the aluminum cogs. Some say if you do a lot of climbing the alu cogs may wear faster than steel though. Make sure you have a shimano microspline freehub body! When installing, pay close attention to the spacers. One is a 2mm, one is a 1mm. The 2mm goes on first. Take your time lining up the last 2 cogs; the 10t actually sits on the 12t instead of the freehub body. I almost had the lockring threaded on even though the 10t was incorrectly aligned on the 12t. Performs as well as I expected, I noticed the downshifts are SLIGHTLY SLOWER but MUCH SMOOTHER than older systems. I think this is because the chain uses the new "down" ramps on the cogs instead of just dropping onto the cog. I adjusted pretty quickly, and the XT shifter can drop 2 gears at a time which is awesome.
Bought to replace the original cassette on my enduro bike, I’ve been running the Shimano M8100 drivetrain on my bikes for about 5 or 6 years, due to the reliability, durability, performance and value for money. Can’t fault it.
This was a warranty replacement. One of the chain rings pulled off the spider. Not sure what caused this. I discovered there was a little play in the rear wheel. I tightened the hub end caps and now it is gone. Jenson customer service has won me over. I will keep buying things here and will recommend to friends.
XT has always been the super nice option without the craziness of XTR. SLX is probably just as good at a lower cost and Deore is now excellent as well. I am not sure the cassette is worth the upgrade. The star of the show for the XT group is the shifter which has XTR style "instant release" faster shifting and double upshift.
