This drive has worked fine for me over the past week with no issues. If the price is right and it's what you're looking for, I don't see any reason NOT to buy this drive. Naturally, I'll update this review if things change...

Lets try something different, up until I had so many Seagate 3TB M001 drives die on me, I tried some WD 6TB reds, one got sent back twice, then finally died out of warranty recently, even have a 6TB Black that came DOA, so much for best of the best. Funny thing is i have several 3TB WD and Seagate NAS drives in an 8 drive RAID10 for well over 5 years now and have yet to have any problems. I am using this particular drive for backup purposes. I was pretty surprised how fast this drive is, 235MB writes and 245MB reads. Also for such a large format drive, its access times are pretty low all considering. This is not a con, however, the drive does get quite warm after about 7 days of testing. This is ok, as long as you have enough ventilation in your case. Crystal Mark Stats: 235 / 232 3 / 2 234 / 229 .9 / 2.5 All in all, this is a fairly decent drive as long as you use it as a clone drive (or in a raid). Due to the very low warranty, I wouldn’t use it for anything important.

Wow, now my DVR servalence unit has ample storage, Much better than the standard 2TD on from Swann. And what a great price as a second hand unit.
When it work its Avery good surveillance drive. The first one I received was DOA It is installed in an NVR that is mounted in a Rack unit with other servers. Therefore I cant say if its quite, due to the sounds emitted by other servers. Its running hot, make sure to have sufficient ventilation, especially if you have several installed in the same enclosure. We installed an additional system fan to exhaust the heat produced by four of these drives in the NVR.
I use pairs of these drives configured as JBOD in a Thecus 7700 NAS to rsync backup a main Synology NAS. This setup has been running perfectly for more than 6 months with no hiccups or drive failures. Performance seems OK but is not a critical factor as the backups are automated and occur during the night. Although I was originally cautious of Seagate drives, I'm 100% happy with the 18 of these drives now in service.
Great product. Very reliable. Built for the long haul. Writing/reading 24/7 for years non-stop.
Only had it for a few weeks but its very fast for a spinning hard drive and it is quite too. Huge capacity for low cost. Using for audio, video, and pictures. To early to tell how reliable it is, its a used hard drive thats a year old so its lasted that long.
At least it's not clicking or ticking. The thing works just fine so far, but I waited over two weeks to write this review because I figured it would fail on me from the sounds it makes, but not yet. The 3 year warranty is assuring, and I very likely will need it. Lost a egg for the funky floppy drive noises. Price seems fair. Warranty is good. Drive performs it's duty.
As of May 2016, this Seagate 8TB is great value for money! Performance is satisfactory for its intended purpose (i.e. archiving) so don't expect trail blazing speed. Cost per gigabyte however is class leading. Being a new HDD, it's reliability & performance is yet to be tested but so far, it has performed to expectations. External build quality is comparable to the best made drives.
