Packaging: All 4 HDD that were ordered came in a NewEgg box w 4 individual box's inside that box. This shipping box was the right size to contain all 4 of the HDD box's inside. The only added packaging was some puff pack on the top to fill the space. I thing NewEgg has finally gotten the shipping of HDD right. But I would suggest some Puff back be used on the bottom of the shipping box before inserting the other box's and then a sheet of Puff pack on the top. Also inside each HDD box was a rather unique way of packaging the HDD in its static bag. One aspect of these bags is that each chamber of air is separate from the other chamber and if one or more are deflated then the HDD has had some hard knocks before you got it. Who ever designed these should get a GOLD Star IMHO. Tests: I ran tests on each drive with HDD Tune as well as HD Sentinel .. ran long tests on all 4 HDD and all passed. All of the results were not identical there was some fluctuation in the values but not any to cause me to RMA them. We are talking values of under 1 to 2 % of the total. Also I monitor the S.M.A.R.T tests to see if any issues arise which none did. Copy test to drives was over 3 to 4 hours long and monitored temps and performance. Temps were withing what I expected and the data transfer didn't slow down which is great. Now Seagate states that these HDD units are "Best-Fit Applications - Desktop or all-in-one PCs - Home servers - Entry-level direct-attached storage devices (DAS)" My concern is that most external enclosures for DAS or Home Servers are lacking in cooling capacity as they are trying to make the box as small as possible which limits air circulation. The question of air flow is critical for HDD to last. As these ST4000DM005's have a lower spin rate and in my case they were inserted into drive bays that were directly cross cooled by a 120 MM fan that the reported temps were well within acceptable ranges. When transferring data from the 1.5 Seagate Barracuda the temps on that HDD went up about 10 degrees to where HD Sentinel alerted me of this condition ( 47 degrees C). And the Seagate BarraCuda ST4000DM005 was only up to 35 C. Again cooling is always a concern to drive health. Now if they stick around I would be purchasing more of these. But in final review if they last then the get a BIG THUMBS UP...and like I said So Far So Good. If you like this give it a thumbs up .... UPDATE. 9/27/17 - Seagate ST4000DM005 I have owned 4 these for about 4 months now ... still looking at purchasing more. But price needs to break the century mark on the negative side. Not sure why so many people report issues w these HDD. Granted they can be problematic on a First time install but if your system is somewhat NEW and and has UEFI bios you should have no issues. Now I did have to set the up as a GPT volume first time as the HDD exceeds the 2TB boundary ( this well all know) but I then converted it to BASIC in W7. This may not be a problem in W10. But can't tell as I only have one system on W10 a HP Laptop. If your having issues Now as to that WD40EZRZ - that's a horse of a different color.. I an not an employee of Seagate, NewEgg, or WD and I did not receive these as promotional "gimmie's" which would have been nice ... LOL but just retired and living on fixed income.

Fortunately SCAN were able to supply them next day unlike another global company with the name of a river who couldn't deliver them after two weeks!Drives arrived next day extremely well packed! All four that were ordered passed a zero disk erase test. The drives write and read (on the whole) faster than their spec sheet says (around the 196MB/s mark on a USB-C 3.2 connected SATA caddy), more than fast enough for the requirement I have to store backups on them long term. Each runs very quiet (to my ears anyway) and the chassis says the drives run at around 29degrees C.SCAN were exceptional at getting these to me, it made a very stressful situation a little easier and the intended result was achieved ... Environment: Full-tower PC case, SATAIII bus, tested good EVGA 650w PSU, used as primary hard disk for work, school, media files (video, images, documents). Failure Narrative: User opens file manager in search of an image which resides on the disk. No files are locatable in any directory on the disk. On reboot, fsck takes far longer than normal but completes. SMART shows eight consecutive "uncorrectable errors in data" events logged at 9751 power-on hours. SMART shows very nonzero "offline uncorrectable" and "current pending sector" counts. DMESG displays a repeating pattern of I/O errors. Disk does not appear writable. Files and ... (like all the pics from your bachelor party!). Keep good backups. I consider today's drives sort of disposable; if you do also, have a look at the other drives in Seagates line, specifically the Firecuda, with it's five year warranty. Easily worth the extra costs if you can get by with a 2TB unit and do not have the budget to purchase enterprise level hardware. A five year warranty shows confidence. I need confidence. After two years my drives get replaced and I use the old drive as a long term backup and I have a box at the bank holding my drives from the last ten years. One of em wouldn't spin up during the annual review. I eventually broke the stiction (GTS) and was able to mount the drive and copy all the data back to my PC. What's a ten year old 80GB drive worth ? ( $10) The data on it?..well you don't want to know what that is worth now do you? I'm using this drive in a HTPC as the primary recording drive now, data rates are what I expected, your results will most certainly vary but in the 3TB drive segment, the Seagate puts on a good show at a competitive price. I'd rate it as a good buy with it's two year warranty and five eggs I'll update this review in the event of something noteworthy happens, but I expect it to be smooth sailing
The hard drive they sent me was not formatted NOR was the DVR capable of detecting it. I sent HOURS on my phone with Amcrest tech support... (they were polite but offered NO help!). Amcrest's solution was for me to take my personal computer apart and connect the hard drive to it for formatting... Assuming the hard drive would've been detected and the formatting worked, I'm sure that would've voided the warranty on my computer. I've already returned this item...Side note, I tried to purchase a completely new DVR directly from Amcrest and everything system i wanted was out of stock. I found a third-party seller and purchased a new DVR from them expecting a "plug and play" setup... it wasn't CRAZY as it sounds! That HD was ALSO undetected by that DVR as well!! (Also ... I found a third-party seller and purchased a new DVR from them expecting a "plug and play" setup... it wasn't CRAZY as it sounds! That HD was ALSO undetected by that DVR as well!! (Also returned)...What is going on with Amcrest right now?! I've had my old system for the past 4 years with little to no issues (none that couldn't be solved by tech support). I've even suggested them to my friends and family but, after this painful experience, I'm swearing them off for good... I HOPE someone from Amcrest calls me about this review because every number I try connects me to "Colin" or "Amy" from India!Avoid this product unless you feel comfortable doing a lot more technical work than I do...Stay safe,George
after being a loyal Seagate [Barracuda] customer. The Seagate drive (ST1000LMA48) did not ever perform as expected. The as my machine got slower and slower without and apparent reason I turned to the SeaChest utilities which indicated the drive was ok but looking at the output of the Sea Chest tools every read was having to retry (it did not report how many for each read) the data did contain how long each test read took to complete and some reads were taking 999.7ms to process of the 14946 reads the test performed 9621 took more that 100ms. 4040 reads took more than 500ms. None of this was being reported by S.M.A.R.T. because some of the Thresholds were "Threshold set to always passing" round and round with Seagate the would not tell me what the Thresholds should ... I just wonder how many other are pulling their hair out trying to figure out why there system is so slow when its the disk all along
After Writing > approx 1GB of data, the drive grinds to a complete halt. (0 b/s)Using this drive as either a system disk / a profile disk or having a pagefile on it would render your machine completely unusable. (As just a Data disk it's also not useable Try to copy a 2GB file to it and your machine will grind to a halt for hours). Replacing with the 2TB drive (same range) that this was to replace fixes these problems
I recently built a machine, and being a newbie at it, I didn't plan well on components. I tried to have 3 regular sized hard drives in there. It was a mess. Then I noticed an ad for laptop drives and realized there was nothing stopping me from using at least one of those little guys in the machine.So there it is. Working beautifully. Smaller than I even imagined. More airflow now in the machine. Probably will buy another one soon to free up more space. No problem, the replaced drives will be much needed external storage.
