I was so surprised at the sheer Volume and Clarity thats comes out of this amazing Soundbar that I will never be going back to separate speaker systems again.I have a friend who is a pure gamer and he wasn't that impressed when he heard I was getting a new soundbar, that was until the day he came over and played his games online for 5hrs with my Q900A Soundbar and NEO 50" 4K TV in game mode and he walked away hrs later 100% convinced that these new Samsung Soundbars are the real deal, He told me that the sound of his games actually blew his own separate speakers away in all areas of his games, specifically he said in the surround sounds you don't normally take notice of or hear most times and he was impressed with the sheer volume ! :DThat's the Power and Technology of Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos coming in to play.Set Up was fast and easy, and the remote control handles all the adjustments when you need to make any. I have my TV set up with the eARC and use the TV sound and Soundbar at the same time which gives you a much fuller sound when listening to the TV or watching great Movies. If you want the Best True UN-compressed sound you can get from a Soundbar make sure you go with the a HDMI 2.1 cable with "eARC." Look for “HDMI Ultra High Speed” with eARC on the cable box and if it's not there ask the retailer for verified confirmation before you buy it. eARC stands for "Enhanced Audio Return Channel" and it is the newer version of the ARC standard.Side Note: All the HDMI Cables talked about here like the 2.0 and 2.1 will play yr 4k Video and TV no problems at all, we are mainly talking about the difference in sound quality when using the different HDMI Cables versions ok.The only difference you will encounter is the Refresh Rates of yr TV, the normal average is a 4K of 60Hz and for the NEO TVs they are 120Hz.Current HDMI 2.0 resolution and refresh rate capabilities cap out at 4K@60 fps or 8K@30 fps, while HDMI 2.1 can carry all the way up to 10K@120 fps.Is HDMI 2 and 2.1 the same regarding the Sound output? No!, the HDMI 2.1 upgrade represents a huge leap over HDMI 2.0 in data Transmission speed and volume and to get the true real sound thats what you need.HDMI 2.1 is now 48Gbps in bandwidth compared to v2.0 with only 18Gbps, which is a 135%+ increase in total bandwidth available for sound and that makes a huge difference to the end user. Now a std ARC HDMI cable will still work but that means it will have to compress the sound down to a level that gets the actual data volume down to 18Gbps, a level the HDMI 2.0 cable can handle. So that's why it's important to get the HDMI Cable version 2.1, with eARC.Whats the difference between Dolby True HD and Dolby Atmos?Dolby TrueHD is a true Lossless Audio Codec with support for up to 7.1 Audio Channels which is what the Q900A is and to really enjoy this, you must use a HDMI 2.1 Cable with eARC, it is the same std used with Blu-ray Discs. No major streaming platforms use it. Dolby Atmos is a 3D surround sound technology that allows sounds to be placed anywhere in a 3D environment.Dolby Atmos is really an extension of Dolby True HD, as mentioned before, is a lossless compression audio technology. In short, the sound will be almost the same as when it was first recorded. Usually, this type of sound format is used in Movie theaters. That is why we can notice even the faintest audio such as the blowing of wind or creaking of doors.Dolby TrueHD audio codec can replicate sounds from different ranges. In short, this audio format retains every bit of data from its original file available before compression. This exponentially enhances the sound quality and data size thats why you need the HDMI 2.1 cables so it can handle the data size.Dolby Atmos is a surround-sound technology developed in 2012 that expanded the capabilities of the existing 5.1 and 7.1 channel configurations. Dolby Atmos offers an edge to the sound quality by adding height channels of audio. Also Dolby Atmos is used in two different audio codecs, Dolby Digital Plus where it is compressed/lossy and Dolby TrueHD where it is uncompressed/lossless.Does Dolby TrueHD Support Atmos?Yes, Dolby TrueHD supports Dolby Atmos. This audio codec can work with up to 7.1 audio channels utilizing lossless compression. Also, the TrueHD format support for up to 24-bit audio is very commendable.Note: If yr just after the Dolby Atmos sound only, then you can get by with the std HDMI 2.0 Cable with ARC and that will give you the Dolby Atmos sound.Fiber Optic or HDMI Cable 2.1 which is better?HDMI 2.1 and 2.0 is much better than any Fiber Optic cable because both the HDMI cables support higher bandwidth and speakers systems up to 7.1 which means better sound, because it doesn't need to be compressed so is true lossless sound, where as Fiber Optic Cables only support Dolby Digital and speakers up to 5.1.What is HDMI eARC mode? The eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) enables you to transmit the original full resolution audio signal through an HDMI cable and reproduce the best sound without compromise. Is HDCP the same as ARC?HDCP 2.2 is NOT the same as ARC. HDCP 2.2 is a technology that protects ultra high definition digital content from being copied. ARC is an HDMI feature that allows you to streamline your setup through one cable for external audio devices. Digital Digital Rights Management (DRM) is technology that enables online video and audio services to enforce that the content they provide is used in accordance with their requirements and Not pirated. We are all required by Law to have and use this technology regardless of what equipment we use.Sorry this review was so long, but I tried to Answer as many Questions as possible, the ones people have being asking me the most over last few months and I hope this has helped you make yr decision on whether to get a new sound bar or not and my answer is a very simple Yes as I absolutely love my soundbar.I have one complaint, small though it is I want to mention it, can you please in future put the sound display dial on the front of the soundbar instead of the top because I have to get up each time to check the settings. Why you would do that I am not sure. But overall I can live with that for the pure sound experience.

An excellent mid-price soundbar and sub

A welcome improvement making the package much easier to handle compared to our previous Q800T soundbar is the change to a rectangular carton from the previous L shaped carton. The Q900A soundbar and sub were very well packed and easy to extract from the carton. Another improvement from the 800T is that there is more room for the HDMI cables that are connected to the soundbar so they are less likely to suffer intermittent connection issues. The Q900A appears to have a solid, well-constructed chassis which makes a good foundation onto which the speakers are mounted. The supporting feet are well in from the ends making it possible for it to comfortably stand on our 100cm wide TV bench although a 120cm or wider bench would look more appropriate. Due to the wireless connection the sub can easily be positioned in an unobtrusive location. The only negative aspect of the soundbar’s design is the top mounted display. If you want to see it you have to either stand over the soundbar or mount a small mirror/prism on top of the soundbar.Setup was straightforward and for our room, setting the Sound Mode to Standard and the Sub level to -4 was all that was required. Test videos with Dolby Digital, Dolby ATMOS and DTS soundtracks were reproduced as expected with excellent clarity and clear dialogues. The surprise for me, being more used to a traditional stereo hi-fi setup, was how good the soundbar sounds when reproducing music from a wide variety of genres. Overhead sounds on ATMOS soundtracks are never going to be as realistic as they would be with discrete overhead speakers but you do get a noticeably more expansive sound than you would get from a stereo speaker pair or from a soundbar without up-firing speakers. The one firmware update (so far) was easy to install although why Samsung never tell you what new features or fixes the firmware includes is a mystery to me.Overall an excellent kit at a sensible price.

Doesn't always turn on
21 January 2024

Sounds good, but difficult to turn on.Good sound quality, but there has been an issue with starting the unit since day 1. If the unit is down for more than 5 or 6 hours, it WILL NOT TURN ON unless it's unplugged and plugged in again day after day after day. Rare times it'll be fine for a while, but then reverts back to not being able to turn on again until unplugged & plugged in again. All connections checked and rechecked. Have not found any solution online that works. Because of this, I will not recommend this product to anyone.

Samsung HW-Q900A has the Worse sound ever
25 June 2023

For $1000+ one should enjoy crystal clear sound from the television. Not the case with this purchase. All voices sound ultra gravely, like the people are talking through a cardboard box. Very hollow sound in all sound modes. Most female voices are completely garbled. 1st Samsung product I have been disappointed with. Sounds almost like the speakers are blown. And trust me, this 76 year old has never turned up the volume enough to cause damage. I just wanted a great sound system, unfortunately, I still have something that sounds like it’s right out of the 60’s.

I have so many other Samsung devices that I love including multiple NeoQLED TVs, Phones, Tablets, etc. and this is the first thing that I feel like has really let me down.I purchased this to replace a Vizio Soundbar that I had forever and figured that technology had to have gotten better. I am so disappointed in this product that I have actually gone back and started using the Vizio again. I figured it had to be me, but I tested it with Acoustic Beam, Symphony, adaptive controls everything and I could NOT get this thing to not muddy up dialog. I refuse to use subtitles just so that I can enjoy a movie and if I wanted to do that I would use the tv speakers.I wish that I could return this and ... MoreFirst off let me start by saying that I am not a fan of this product. I am looking to sell this one and possibly move to another brand of soundbar and see if I get better results.

[Rewarded Review] A beautiful and elegant soundbar

The Samsung Q900A soundbar is absolutely amazing. I love how I am able to clearly hear the voices during my shows, and how the sound during the action pieces can really make you feel like you are really there. I especially like the the soundbar itself does not take up a bunch of space and the cables are able to be easily hidden. This also goes for the bigger speaker/subwoolfer that only needs power and no wires to the soundbar at all. This makes me very happy to have a great setup with not a lot of wires running back and forth through the room. The soundbar produces very impressive sound that feels like I am in the movie theater, with sound that wraps around the room and feels like we are right in the middle of the movies we are watching. I don’t know much about Dolby Atmos, but I believe my husband that it is a game changer, having finally experienced it for myself.I’ll also say that I like the different mode setups which allow me to even further bring out the voices on my TV shows while not having to constantly turn up and down the volume because the explosions, cars, etc are also set to loud. I am able to comfortably watch my shows later in the evening without the hassle of constantly changing the volume or frustrating others in the house with the TV being set too loud. I also like the ability to play music directly to the soundbar from my phone. I can simply walk to it and tap my phone to it via the app, and it will pick up what I am playing. This has already served it’s purpose with helping us during our late ‘spring cleaning’ modes, and just overall entertainment without having to fiddle with a TV remote to select a song or anything. The Q900A is awesome, and absolutely worth being in everyone’s home.

Let's just say I am no means a ¨Techie¨ or computer savvy person. I hesitated to order this product because I was worried about countless wires and hooking the product up to my TV entertainment system. Let's just say, mission successful! I was able to connect the soundbar with complete ease and was able to mount it! The product has a sleek design and with very minimal effort, you can make the product appear more sleek by channeling the cords and mounting the product. Should we talk about the quality of sound? I simply have no words how impressed I am with the product. The HW-Q900A 7.1 soundbar makes the IMAX movie experience dwarf in comparison. In my opinion, the sound has an immersive quality and convinces the illusion of surround sound. I have had this product for less than 3 days and I have received compliments on how sleek the product design appears and how great the quality of the sound is. Within the 10 days of owning this product, I find myself rewatching all my favorite sci-fi & super hero movies just to experience the cinematic experience at the comfort of my own home. This product has completely changed the way Il watch movies going forward. Even my friends say they would prefer to come over to watch movies instead of going out to the movie theaters. I can definitely recommend this product based on the life-long quality Samsung has to offer, the discreet/sleek design of the product and the impeccable sound quality of the surround sound/heavy bass immersion.I am loving the benefit of Apple Airplay and versatility that comes with that benefit. A lot of my friends can use their Android phones to play music off my speakers seamlessly without any hassle. I can control the volume, bass and overall sound quality right from my phone. Even if I don't have my phone next to me, I can ask Alexa to play my favorite music all hands-free. This is a huge benefit since I work out in the comfort of my own home and cook often!10/10 would recommend this product & enjoy rewatching all your favorite movies!

[Rewarded Review] Great quality and sound

I received this product at a discount in return for my honest review. This soundbar is HUGE both in size and sound. Compared to my previous 5.1.2 and 5.1.4 soundbars the Q900A is much better in all areas, well almost. Immediately up on connecting to my tv the difference was very noticeable. The sound clarity is amazing. Set up was quick and simple, 1 HDMI to the tv via ARC and 2 inputs for gaming/streaming boxes. Simply plug cables in and power up and you’re ready to go. After setting up in the SmartThings app changing between the 3 available sound modes is quick and easy. Also available in the app is the ability to change other settings, but not all. Also available in the app is the ability to change other settings, but not all. The only thing I would like more of is bass. The subwoofer is a nice size but doesn’t produce the amount of bass you would assume. I have the woofer at +4 but bass doesn’t really hit in unless the soundbar volume is +20 or more and at this point the sound coming out of the bar is very loud. The Active Voice Amplifier (AVA) feature is great for my open concept living room to help with the noise from the kitchen area not drown out the soundbar. The voice enhancement is also fantastic, there have been many less “what did they say” moments. One thing I would like to see would be more integration of the channel level settings into the SmartThings app as the screen on the soundbar is small and not conveniently located where it’s easy to see. My TV is 2018 Samsung so I was unable to test the Q-Symphony and the SpaceFit Sound+ features, but all in all, this is a great soundbar and I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in a new top of the line soundbar.

[Rewarded Review] Superior sound that will literally blow you away

Being an audiophile with a history of surround sound setups for many many years, I was intrigued by this soundbar to compliment the living room. Out of the box, the soundbar has a sleek, clean look, and tucks under the legs of the TV for a seamless and unobtrusive look on the entertainment center. The cord design with the raised plug area allows you to hide the cords behind the TV and the speaker as to not create the eyesore that past surround sound systems suffered. The cord for the subwoofer was sufficiently long that it could be placed in an ideal location. This system has 20 individual speakers with 14 discrete audio channels in it. With that number of speakers in my old system it would have filled my living room with speakers and cables. With that number of speakers in my old system it would have filled my living room with speakers and cables. This system is discreate and wireless, which I was looking forward too compared to what I had.I was expecting a huge increase in the quality of spatial audio as compared to my older 5.1 surround system and it surely did not disappoint. The big difference is no wire mess and having to run speaker cable around the room. I learned that in a living room with high ceilings like mine the spatial audio delivered by the soundbar was very well defined. This system had great audio quality and filled the room with sound and with good audio imaging it was convincing that you were in the action and it is coming from specific locations around and above you.I am definitely looking to add to the optional rear speakers though to add to the immersion!Overall the soundbar was a breeze to setup and configure, especially if you have other Samsung products The built in Alexa was easy to setup and works very well which was a huge bonus for me. The Samsung Bar exceeded any of my expectations and I would recommend it to anyone
