Have worn these twice on different types of terrain trails and they have not disappointed. Everything from crushed gravel, sand, deeper sand, rocks, ascents, descents, etc. My shoe size is between 7 and 7.5 and I opted for 7.5 since reviews indicated they run narrow. Not one issue and although they do appear narrow, they are very comfortable. The Ortholite insole adds to the comfort level. The 10 mm drop works well for me and I never felt unstable in any of the above mentioned terrains. The speed laces work well, once they are set, they do not loosen until I take them off. I have been using them for trail running, however I will probably start using them for hiking moderate mountains (5,000 feet elevation). They are more comfortable than my hiking boots. Salomon's Speedcross series are the most comfortable, sturdy, well-fit shoes I've ever owned. I'll never buy another brand or style, period. Speedcross are well-constructed for nearly every purpose. They provide support for a long hike or walking all day, flexibility for running, grippiness for muddy terrain, waterproofing on the bottom and sides, breathability for hot days, good mesh material for cold days, and the nose is slim enough for biking with foot cages. The zip-tie laces are brilliant. I've never had a blister or an irritated spot in these shoes (even after wearing them 48 hrs straight), which is something I cannot say for any other shoe I've tried--whether for marathons or urban walking or steep mountain hiking. I have a slightly narrow foot and high arch, so many Salomon shoes are a poor fit for me. But the Speedcross design holds my foot all around, with enough room for my toes to be secure but not crowded. Yet, these shoes are the like "the sisterhood of the traveling pants": My friend has a wider (normal width) foot, and her Speecross perfectly fit her foot as well.

This is my third pair of Speedcross trail running shoes. I loved the 4's, and the 5's had even better features, so when the 5's wore out, I ordered the Speedcross 6 in the same size as the previous 2 pair - 7.5. It took 5 weeks for the shoes to arrive, and when they finally did, I couldn't wait to head out on the trail. It wasn't until I headed downhill on my inaugural hike that I realized the shoes were too large. When I got home and compared them to the Speedcross 5's, there was over an additional 1/2" of space in front of my big toe. Thankfully I have a VIP membership, so I took them back and they ordered me a size 7. I got these in less than 2-days, which was amazing. Took them out for a hike and found the length perfect, but the width in the toe box is much larger than previous Speedcross models. I have to really cinch down the lacing to get adequate support, which bunches up the fabric on the top of my foot. I am not sure if I will keep these since the fit is so off from previous years. I am so bummed because these have been my go-to hiking shoes! Good features: great traction; nice flexible sole; excellent support around heel. Negatives: Fit is funky - way too wide in toe box and you will need to order a 1/2 size smaller than normal; the little pouch to tuck the lace into is much harder to use than the Speedcross 5's.

I prefer trail runners instead of hiking boots for hiking and Salomon's are generally my go-to. Hiking boots always give me horrible blisters, which I don't get from trail runners. Trail runners are also typically a lot lighter compared to boots, and personally, I don't feel like I need the ankle support of a boot that some people may like.I had the wildcross before these and they lasted over two summers and many, many hikes through the Canadian Rockies. I haven't worn these on trail yet, but the fit is right and I am excited about the extra waterproofness via GORE-Tex. These also have a more aggressive heel (higher drop) compared to the wildcross, which I am hoping will add some extra cushion and comfort for me on long hikes.I have very narrow feet, and Salomon's ... MoreI prefer trail runners instead of hiking boots for hiking and Salomon's are generally my go-to. These also have a more aggressive heel (higher drop) compared to the wildcross, which I am hoping will add some extra cushion and comfort for me on long hikes.I have very narrow feet, and Salomon's always seem to fit well, while still giving me enough room in the toe-box. According to the Salomon website these shoes do come in a wide version as well. I would definitely suggest trying those if your feet are typically on the wider side. These are true to Salomon-sizing. I am usually a 9 in women's shoes, but an 8 or 8.5 in Salomon footwear. Salomon generally sizes differently than other brands, so I would suggest going off your European size to select the right fit (Women 9 US is usually a Euro 40 - but in Salomon's Euro 40 is an 8 or 8.5). If you are unsure, I would suggest trying on a pair in-store before purchasing online to ensure you have the right size.I prefer the Quicktab pull-tab lace system over conventional laces. Again, because I have narrow feet, I find normal laces too long and I have to double or triple-knot them so they don't drag. With the Quicklace system, you just tuck the excess into the tongue of the shoe and there is nothing to worry about.
These shoes are a great fit for a narrower foot, especially around the heel/ankle. I wasn't expecting to like the quicklace system but it works well and the shoes don't budge once adjusted. Fit and lacing very comfortable. The insoles unfortunately let these shoes down, which would otherwise have got 5 stars. They are rather thin, and have quite rough fabric on the surface, with large perforations in the forefoot area. These factors make the insole abrasive, and gave me sore feet, especially if running in wet conditions. Swopped the insoles for the ones from my old shoes, which fixed the problem. Customer service response to my raising the issue could have been more proactive.
Bought this model almost 9 months ago. I used them for 3 weeks hikes in Pery and many 1-2 days hikes in Canada . Super comfy , lightweight and have excellent grip. I bought them in black , just to be at peace when they get dusty or muddy. Good not only for hikes but for city walks with my dog too, love the combo of practicality and style. Today my daughter left for 3 months trip to Europe, and she asked me to borrow mine speed cross for that trip. Whille I'm glad she shares appreciation for that particular model , I understand that I need to get another pair for myself now. Highly recommend! They have superior feeling of comfort inside I guess due to the ortholite tech material, wich is way more comfortable than memory foam insoles.
This were my go-to hiking sure for a few years now. I liked everything about them - comfort, stability, grip, color scheme and design. Unfortunately, this year's edition is a bit disappointing. To start - they fit much bigger, almost almost a full size! I was always getting 8.5 and they fit with a comfortable wiggle room in the toe area but snug around the heel. This time, I'm swimming in them, no matter how much I try to tighten the shoelaces. That's not a good or safe feet for a mountain hiking or trail running shoe. The addition of a text to the top of the shoe ruins the look but is not super noticeable, at least. The quality seems to be getting worse - visible slopy glue marks on the seems where the sole connects to the main part of the shoe.
These choose are so comfortable! I wore them to hike 5 miles in a desert right after buying them at the store. I am extremely surprised how comfortable these are. I definitely felt a lot of traction and was able to easily go up and down steep hills (30-40% grade). In general, I do get a knee pain if I go down many steep hills, but not with these shoes! I've noticed that my step is a lot softer going down. They get 4 stars for being 0.5-1 size longer without explicitly saying that. If I bought them online, I would've had to return them for a smaller size. The store associate confirmed that it is the case with these shoes and some other Solomon shoes. I always wear 9.5, but purchased a size 9. If I had more time at the store, I would've tried 8.5 as 9 is still long. ... MoreThese choose are so comfortable! Color purchased - Moonscape/Black/Ashes Of Roses. My husband and I like to camp and hike. I am a plus size hiker with size 8 WW feet. I also have type II diabetes, achilles tendonitis (from heel spurs) and arthritis behind my knees. I love my Salomon Women's X Ultra 3 Mid GTX hiking boots (in size 8 Wide) in winter so thought I would try these Salomon Speedcross 6 trail runners. WOW!!! I’m SO, SO glad I made the change!!!! These are so perfect for me that I’m contemplating the purchase of a second pair in case they get discontinued or changed. Wore them to Pine Grove Furnace State Park, PA this past week. Right out of the box! Brought to wear on the trails but they were so comfortable that I wore them around camp too. Hated taking them off. The color is AWESOME and looks great with so much of my stuff! The lock laces are easy to use. There is a finger loop/grab on the tongue to hold when pulling on so that the tongue doesn’t fall into the shoe. There is not a heel loop/grab (which would be a nice addition but not enough to not buy these). By your regular size and get outside, your feet will love them!
I have the speed cross 5’s and they are my most favorite shoe ever. So comfortable right out of the box and they were one of the few shoes that actually fit my type of foot, with ZERO blisters. These new ones? Changed beyond recognition unfortunately. The heel cup is much bigger, leaving heel slippage, and it’s a higher volume shoe leaving my foot swimming.I guess for them it might’ve been a good decision because it will likely fit a wider range of feet. If it does fit your feet, then I’m sure it is still a fantastic shoe. I’m just sad that one of the few options that works for my feet is gone.As a note, Salomon does run about a half size longer so size down 1/2
