Sakura : Pigma : Micron Pen 04 : Black : 0.4 mm

I wanted to buy the Sakura Pigma Micron pens in different colors to use on my Hobonichi since it is a great fineliner for that planner. I originally bought a multipack in different sizes of the black color from another website and found that the .25mm is the size I use all the time to write. I wanted to get this size in different colors, so I went to JetPens and saw they sold each color individually.The pen itself write really well. It is smooth and does not bleed through the Tomoe River paper on the Hobonichi (it does ghost because the paper is so thin but I do not mind that). The .25mm size is very thin but I write small in my Hobonichi anyway so it is not a problem for me. If you are someone who is used to writing with larger pen sizes like .7 then I would suggest getting the next size for these pens.The only thing I want to make note of is I noticed that when I compared it to my Pigma Micron pen in the black ink that I got from the other website, the labels and writing on the outside of the pen are printed on directly the barrel. However, this one that I bought on JetPens has the label and markings printed on a clear sticker label and is stuck on the barrel instead of printed directly. I wish I could provide a picture of the comparison because I do not know if that has something to do the the authenticity of the pens.Upon closer inspection, another difference between the two is that the purple writings on the barrel (where is says "Pigma" "01" and "0.25mm") in my black pen from another website is a lighter shade of purple than the one I purchased here on JetPens. As far as the writing goes, I only had this pen for a short while so I cannot really tell the difference between the wear and tear of the nib (I press hard when I write) but they both seem to write the same.Another difference that I noticed is the code right above the barcode on the barrel has different fonts. The one I purchased on the other website has a smaller font size with the same font type as the rest of the writings on the barrel, while the one I purchased here has a larger font size with a more type-writer font, which is different from the rest of the font on the barrel. My only guess as to why there are differences is because I bought the black pen in a pack with different sizes vs. this is sold individually. I am hoping neither are fake, but I won't look too much into it because I don't want to know. They both work perfect and I will leave it at that.

The pen is made with a firm plastic exterior. The grip is not the most comfortable, but thankfully this pen can be handled with gentle finesse and still produce the quality of line expected from such a high quality pen. These pens are not the most expensive available to artists. Most artists are starving artists like me. If you are an artist that wants a mid-range price on a high quality pen, this pen will satisfy again and again. PS. The art is by the creator of this post. All rights are retained by me, the artist.

Four and a half stars! Great for detail work and writing in small spaces. Mostly, I have them from brush nib to tiniest one for Copic coloring pieces to fill in any spots when my stamped images came out spotty/too light in certain areas. I love how super quickly they dry on porous papers: it takes mere seconds to follow through if I'm using coated papers like Xpress Blending Card (le creme de la crop and I use nothing else with my Copic Sketch markers)! However, if I forget where I've made my marks with a Micron and I'm in a rush, the smear is no bueno. Not all colors have the same set speed or opacity as the black ink and the reason for loss of a half star.

Sakura Pigma Micron size 05 - 0.45mm - Black. Love the archival qualities of the ink: permanent, non-acid. Don't love the stepped cylinder construction near the tip. I hold my pens close to the tip & I grip these Sakura Pigma Micron pens right AT the step from the smallest cylinder above the metal tip to the medium cylinder inside the area the cap covers. Even so, due to an unfortunate flooding incident (AC drain plugged & water dripped into plastic basket holding some notebooks & all pages were lost, EXCEPT those I'd written with Sakura Pigma Micron pens) I am switching from my previous fave & comfy to hold but NOT permanent Staedtler Triplus Fineliners to Sakura Pigma Microns for my general-purpose pens.

Sakura pens have lots of good qualities, a range of point sizes, good range of colors. The pen deserves a better outer case, which is a sad tan. The button on the top of the cap is very hard to read (metallic and illegible on some), making it hard to identify point size. The un-ergonomic design of this pen housing has a sharp, uncomfortable edge on the barrel where the plastic cap closes onto the pen. And the color...is that a color? or the result of mixed plastic recycling? Dear Sakura: Take the great innards of these pens and design a better housing for them.

I love love love Sakura pigma microns. I have them in 3 different sizes. 01, 03 05. Amazing black pigmented pens. Clear and sleek liners. I’ve been using for many years. I use them to finish my liner art, botanical art and fashion illustrations. I use them in multiple ways, some times as base liner for my sketches and drawings, sometimes as finishing outliner as top layer on gouache, watercolors.

Favorite Quality Pens

Microns are my favorite pens to use in general, and I have written with them for years now, but Microns with the plastic nibs are one of my favorite types. The ink doesn't bleed, fade, smear, or skip, and the flow feels smooth and effortless. I love that it is waterproof and that I can write either fine or medium depending on the amount of pressure I use. I even accidentally left one of them in my pants pocket in the wash, and the ink didn't leave the pen and ruin my clothes, and the pen still wrote fine after being washed. They are a great quality pens, and I won't go back to the pens I used before.

Happy with Pigma products

These pens just last and last ! Don’t bother purchasing cheap knock-offs. The frustration isn’t worth it. One word of caution, and this applies to all quality pens: if you’re working on mixed media pieces, never apply the pen’s nib to wet paints. This will clog the nib and render it useless. Cheers!

Micron makes my paintings pop!

I use the Micro pens in my watercolor paintings when I add trees that require small branches. Many people have commented on my trees and how realistic they appear in my paintings. These trees actually make my paintings stand out from other paintings they have viewed. Thank you Micron and for Michaels for carrying all the paints and pens I need to complete my master pieces. The Replacement for the Venerable Rapidograph!

After using 6x0 to 2.0 (0.13mm to 2mm) for 25 years, and the lack of jewel point nibs, RapidoEze, and what seems to be a different ink chemistry (ie: red and black will not clog after a week end away from your pens, whereas cyan, blue, and carmine can clog overnight! Well, no more spending an hour cleaning pens anymore!The Sakura Pigma Micron 005 pens have a new place in my wheel: Being used everyday and not worrying about, well... NOTHING!!
