Ryobi One+ 18V HP Brushless 3/8” Compact High-Speed Ratchet

Great tool. I got this with the battery promotion, a great value add. the tool performed very well, the variable rate lever is very responsive, and goes from very slow to very fast with intuitive modulation. it is more powerful than i expected, though there are some situations that require first breaking loose the fastener before using the tool. The size of the battery makes it sometimes difficult to insert the tool in tight spaces, but the swivel head is a bonus that allows at times to move or rotate the battery to a location that allows you to get around obstacles in your path. All in all it has been useful and accelerated disassembly and assebly for my project.

A bit bulky but good overall

This is a nice tool. It has a couple of nice features. First, a warning that this is the tool only. It does not come with a battery. If you own other Ryobi 18V tools, that is not a problem. I just used one of the batteries from another tool I own. The weight is a bit heavy for a 1/4 inch drive and the overall unit is kind of bulky. I like the trigger, which is a full hand lever so you are not trying to squeeze some small button while getting work done. Also, the lock for the trigger is well placed. Just a quick flick of the thumb and it is locked or unlocked. Another feature that I like is the head is small and functions like a real ratchet. Lift the retaining ring and the head and pivot 90 degrees or 180 degrees making it easier to have the best grip and angle for what you are working on. The tool has plenty of power for what you are working on given that it is a 1/4 inch drive. I like this tool and would have given it 5 starts if it were a little less bulky as most of the places I use a 1/4 drive tend to be smaller.

I will go over some specifications and features of this 1/4" High Speed Ratchet then share my experience with it. In the box I recieved the 18v 1/4" Ratchet and operators manual. With the ONE+ HP technology this ratchet delivers 0 - 460 RPM. With up to 40 ft-lbs. of torque. The head has a 1/4" anvil with pin detent. The head rotates and locks into 4 different positions. Just pull up on the neck and turn it into the position that works for the job. I really like the dual LED lights because it gives you 360° of light for dark spaces. The variable speed metal paddle trigger is nice. The more pressure you apply to it the faster it spins. There is also a lock on the trigger to prevent accidental start-ups when it's bouncing around in your tool bag. To switch between forwards and reverse, it is like most standard ratchets. Just turn the knob on the back of the ratchet head left or right. I love having these 18v ratchets, especially for tight spaces. When you use a regular manual ratchet you have to have room to swing the handle back and forth. Another thing that sets this apart from a normal hand ratchet is the speed. This ratchet spins very fast up to 460 RPM and has great torque up to 40 ft.-lbs. behind it. I am the guy everyone comes to when they are moving, need help, or need something fixed. Having this ratchet makes taking furniture apart and putting it back together a breeze. This ratchet and my tabletop grill were delivered the same day, so I used the ratchet to put the grill together. I have a few different tool bag setups. I have one for my vehicle, which is where I'll be keeping my ratchets. This is definitely a great little gadget to add to your collection whether you are a mechanic, carpenter, or DIYer.

I got this tool with 1/4 anvil size to have the smallest head possible. This new model is rated for great 40 lb-ft torque. I have impact wrench, but it's great for big nuts and bolts where there's very little risk of stripping threads or shearing heads. Steel trigger has a great depth of depression on this tool and allows very fine control of ratcheting speed. Fully depressed it spins it at 460rpm. Depressing it slightly you can get it rotating slower than by hand. Trigger has lock if you plan store it in tightly packed tools box where trigger can be depressed by other tools and discharge the battery. Head can be turned 360 degrees with 4 stops at 90 degrees each. This makes it a lot easier to work in tight spaces. Unit powered by very compact brushless motor. It has no friction parts other than bearings and will easily outlive ratcheting mechanism by probably factor of 10 if not more in this application. My only detraction is that these LEDs seem to illuminate the area in front of the tool like a flashlight rather than being aimed downward so as to better illuminate what you are trying to ratchet.
