I’ll preface this review by noting that my hair isn’t dyed/bleached. I have natural, cool-toned blonde hair, so I don’t know how well it works at fortifying and toning brassy, dyed hair. This shampoo is vegan and sulfate-free, which I like. The fragrance is nice and isn’t overpowering or flowery. I love the purple color, too. The shampoo creates a nice lather, though it takes a while to rinse it all out. Once my hair dried, I noticed that my hair felt thicker and smoother than it does with my regular shampoo. I had fewer fly-aways/frizz the next day too. I took before and after photos of my hair. My hair looks brighter and shinier after I used the shampoo. Overall, I liked the way the shampoo made my hair look/feel, though there is one issue I found when I looked up ... MoreI’ll preface this review by noting that my hair isn’t dyed/bleached. My hair looks brighter and shinier after I used the shampoo. Overall, I liked the way the shampoo made my hair look/feel, though there is one issue I found when I looked up the ingredients. This shampoo contains amodimethicone. Amodimethicone, which, from what I read, is considered a “bad silicone” in haircare because it’s not water soluble. Therefore it can be difficult to remove, and as a result, it builds up in the hair. Amodimethicone is in both the shampoo and conditioner, so I would be worried about the silicone build-up if I used both products for an extended period of time. From what I read on Byrdie, long-term use of silicones isn’t good for hair because when it builds up, it prevents hair from absorbing other moisturizing ingredients in shampoo/conditioner; as a result, hair becomes brittle over time. It can clog hair follicles and lead to thinning. I actually experienced these issues with other shampoo/conditioner before I switched to silicone-free hair products. However, I also read that amodimethicone can be beneficial for bleached/dyed blonde hair because the film it creates it can lock the color into the hair to reduce fading. Since my hair is natural blonde, though, this benefit doesn’t outweigh the problems that amodimethicone can cause. Although this shampoo made my hair feel nice, I don’t think I’ll continue to use it because I’m afraid of silicone build-up. My hair is naturally a cool blonde shade, so I don’t really need the toning properties. I’ll probably give it to my mom, since she uses purple toning shampoo regularly.

I have had my eye on this for a looong time. I’ve heard great things but the price point had always been a deterrent. Let me preface that I’ve tried (several different brand drugstore and professional purple shampoo over the years) and currently use professional purple shampoo and conditioner. Right off the bat the smell is great. The consistency of the shampoo is thick. Which is great for application especially with purple shampoo when it comes to bottle - hand - head and when the consistency is runnier, you’ll see splatter all over the shower. The conditioner is creme like (probably the thickest conditioner I’ve ever seen) very dark violet and directions say to leave on for 5 mins. The results. I honestly wasn’t wow’d. I hyped these products up in my mind possibly ... MoreI have had my eye on this for a looong time. I’ve heard great things but the price point had always been a deterrent. I hyped these products up in my mind possibly due too 1) being the price point expensive = better 2) reviews swaying me saying that it’s the “holy grail” when reviewers perhaps haven’t tried competitor products or are “upgrading” from drugstore purple. I didn’t notice my hair being any “different” from what I’m already using. I’m sharing a “before” picture which is my normal pro purple shampoo/conditioner. I waited 5 days in-between, then washed with Pureology which is the “after” picture. I didn’t see any “toning” effects out of the wheelhouse of what I’m already using. The product is definitely luxurious, smells great, and clean my hair efficiently. But I didn’t notice any standout toning or brightening effects and at double the price point as the competitor, I do not see myself repurchasing.

The shampoo has a rich purple color and after using it the very first time I didn't notice a drastic difference in my color as far as toning the brassiness but I definitely noticed a different in the way my hair felt compared to other brands of purple shampoo. After testing this shampoo out the past few weeks I definitely have noticed a difference in color but I noticed a difference in the strength of my hair first. The shampoo is gentle and my hair definitely feels softer and hydrated then before using other shampoo brands. overall I would definitely recommend this shampoo especially if you have hair like I have which is fine and tangles easy then yes you will like this shampoo. It definitely helps with more then just toning. I do want to point out I saw a difference in the the brassiness and color of my hair after I used it the second time and then the third. No it did not leave my hair purple or overtoned. Definitely going to purchase and keep using this shampoo.

Good alternative until the “non-blonde” versions comes back in stock!
21 April 2022

I recently visited my parents place and used this product (non-blonde version, I have dark brown hair) for the first time in a couple of years for the 3.5 week visit (it is not easily purchased where I live atm except from Look Fabtastic!). When I returned home, my hairdresser commented that my hair looked healthier than usual and suggested I continue using the same products. My hair feels stronger throughout and fuller through the ends (which usually become “ratty” quickly) even 6 weeks after my last hair appointment. Where I live has very harsh water that has weakened my hair over the last couple of years, but this really feels like it has helped repair some of that damage. The product covers the hair easily, I always make sure to emulsify the product in my hands ... MoreI recently visited my parents place and used this product (non-blonde version, I have dark brown hair) for the first time in a couple of years for the 3.5 week visit (it is not easily purchased where I live atm except from Look Fabtastic!). The product covers the hair easily, I always make sure to emulsify the product in my hands first before applying and use a wide tooth comb to evenly distribute. I actually like the purple colour for this step because I can easily see that I have applied all the product from my hands into my hair! I have noticed I need to take a little more care to wash the product out otherwise I get purple marks on my towels (they wash out in my washing machine) but that is definitely my issue, not the products! I have fine, straight hair.

I received this product complimentary from Influensterin exchange for my honest review. I was so excited to receive this in the mail because I am already a fan of Pureology and use the hydrate sheer shampoo and conditioner everytime I wash my hair. However, since my hair is not totally blonde I wasn't entirely sure this product was even meant for me and as such probably would never have bought it. My hair more of a medium brown base with a golden and blonde balayage throughout. This product really could not have come in the mail at a better time bc I had a hair appointment the following day to touch up my color. So I figured what the heck, if it messes up my color I'm seeing my stylist tomorrow so let's try it out. The blonde highlights in my hair always tend to fade to a more brassy orangish color from the minerals in my water between my hair appointments. I washed with the shampoo and then left the conditioner on for 5 minutes like the bottle said. This product removed the brassiness and left the blonde with a cooler color just as if I had a toner done at the salon. I talked to my stylist about it yesterday and she said that this type of product is great for highlights too. She also recommended only using once or twice a month as a treatment. I would highly recommend this for anyone that has blonde in their hair. I will continue to use it twice a month to keep my blonde highlights fresh.

It is PURPLE, lol (especially the conditioner, which is extremely highly pigmented). And from the warnings on the back of the bottles, this product means business. I found it interesting that it has detailed instructions on each bottle on how to do a skin patch test to check for an allergic reaction, but there is zero instruction on how to actually use the product on your hair. So without any instruction, I did the best I could, which may have affected the results (or lack thereof). I wore rubber gloves for the application and I used both the shampoo and conditioner on about a two-inch-wide swatch of my hair near the front of my head. My hair has been very color-treated/bleached/kind of fried recently, so I thought it would take the color well. I shampooed and rinsed out the shampoo pretty quickly, but I left the conditioner on for about five minutes before rinsing it off. I was unable to tell that it had done anything to my hair color-wise, unfortunately. I’m thinking I probably would have had better results 1) if I had left it on for longer and 2) upon repeated uses. Also I think this product is intended for true light (cool-toned) blondes. My hair is currently more of an orange/ginger/rose gold color (which is one reason I didn’t want to use this product on my entire head, because I didn’t want to mess up my current hair color too much—the other reason being I’m scared to use the product on my scalp after seeing all the warnings on the back of the bottles!). So would I recommend this product to a friend? If I knew a blonde who is willing to drop 60 bucks on a shampoo/conditioner combo to use for toning down their brassiness, sure. I’ve always had a good experience with Pureology products and a little does go a long way. Would I buy this product for myself? Probably not.

Left hair soft and healthy, no change in color

I received this item for free from Pureology and Influenster in exchange for my honest review. I’m not sure that I can fairly rate this product, as I have natural hair. I have not dyed it for a couple decades at least. My hair is strawberry blonde, and I thought that perhaps using this shampoo would bring out the blonde and maybe make the red a little less brassy, but I did not notice a change in color after using it. To be fair though, I really don’t think I had enough time to use the product before the due date of my review, because I also had another brand of shampoo to review in the same tune frame, and I don’t shampoo my hair every time I shower. Perhaps if I used it more often and for a longer amount of time it would be noticeable? Perhaps if I used it more often and for a longer amount of time it would be noticeable? I did notice after using this shampoo that my hair felt healthier and was more manageable when styling. It was shinier than normal and less frizzy. So that was a plus. I also liked the scent of this shampoo. It is very lightly scented, not overwhelming like some scented shampoos can be, and that’s saying something, because I’m one of those people who is extremely sensitive to fragrance. It also smells better than other purple shampoos I’ve smelled (my daughter has used purple shampoo before). My teen daughter does have home bleached hair, so she has been using this product. It definitely took out a lot of the brassy tones in her hair, some of her hair ended up looking extremely platinum. So based on this, I would say it works well on color treated hair. But I’m not so sure it will do anything to natural hair based on my experience with it. I say this with all my reviews, and I’m not going to stop now: I would love to see all beauty companies come up with more environmentally conscious ways to package their products. Plastic is so not cool. I’ve been seeing a lot of companies putting their products in metal and cardboard packages. I think it would be great if Pureology would do the same.

First things first— this shampoo is dark purple which is what I always look for in a purple shampoo so that it gives me a more powerful neutralizing effect. It lathers so well. Even lathers great on dirty hair. Leave it on for at least 5 minutes and the brassiness of your hair will be gone. You’ll feel like you just left the salon. It also left my hair really soft which is such a win for me because I’ve used so many different brands of purple shampoos and they usually leave my hair feeling so stiff. The shampoo has a nice, subtle scent. It doesn’t have a chemically smell straight out of the bottle. However, after blow drying my hair and styling it, I did smell that freshly dyed, chemical smell. I really don’t mind the smell at all. You’ve already bleached your hair, this shouldn’t be a problem. It slightly stained my fingers but nothing that would make me want to wear gloves. My go-to purple shampoo is Joico and that one actually stains my fingers more so I was pleasantly surprised with this one. After a couple hand washes, it goes away. As for your shower... it really shouldn’t stain your shower or bathtub. If you have a dirty bathtub, I can see the purple sticking to that but otherwise, it just rinses off like any other shampoo. If you’re complaining about a stained bathtub, it says more about you than it does about the shampoo and I have secondhand embarrassment for you. Having said all this, I probably won’t repurchase because it’s too pricey and my gigantic $20 Joico purple shampoo does the job just as good. I received this complimentary in exchange for an honest review from influenster

This one is hard for me, I am always on the lookout for the perfect blonde shampoo and so I’m always open to trying new brands. I have natural golden blonde hair (never color treated) and it can get brassy pretty easily so I always keep a purple shampoo and conditioner on hand to use periodically. This shampoo (and the corresponding conditioner) fell pretty much middle of the road for me. It’s not my favorite purple shampoo but it’s not the worst I’ve tried either. From some I’ve tried recently I’d place the Pureology strength cure blonde shampoo above the Kerastase blond absolu range but below the DryBar Blonde Ale range. I’d say it runs about even with the DPhue purple shampoo and the Beach Waver purple shampoo. If you like or dislike any of those products maybe ... MoreThis one is hard for me, I am always on the lookout for the perfect blonde shampoo and so I’m always open to trying new brands. I’d say it runs about even with the DPhue purple shampoo and the Beach Waver purple shampoo. If you like or dislike any of those products maybe that ranking will help you. My biggest issue with this shampoo is I don’t feel like it got my hair clean enough. I wash my hair once a week and I shampooed twice with this in the same wash and just didn’t feel like it cleaned well enough (I know purple shampoos in general aren’t great cleansers so that’s why I did the double wash). The first time I used this I liked it and thought it was pretty good (but I had used a clarifying shampoo before hand) the next time I used this shampoo on its own (a week after the first use) and found my hair felt very dry (even though I used the conditioner too) and felt dirty very quickly after that wash. I don’t think this is a bad purple shampoo at all, I just don’t think it’s great either. It’s very middle of the road for me, but it might work better for others! For reference I have thick, coarse, long hair (for now).

These Work Amazing, Like Magic For Blondes!
17 April 2021

I received both the shampoo and conditioner products free for testing purposes from Influenster and Pureology. I'm going to give a completely honest review as well! Even if I had purchased these products, I would still give both 5/5 stars! They smell amazing and left my hair feeling so soft and healthy! I have long, wavy, fine hair, my natural hair color is brown, but I get full platinum blonde highlights approximately every 2-3 months, so my hair is damaged from the bleach and chemicals. I noticed right away, after just one use of the shampoo and conditioner that the brassiness and warm tones were nearly eliminated, which was exactly what I was hoping for. I noticed right away, after just one use of the shampoo and conditioner that the brassiness and warm tones were nearly eliminated, which was exactly what I was hoping for. They worked so well to tone my hair back to the neutral, cooler tone I originally had when I last got highlights. I was amazed at how well it worked for that. My hair tangles very easily and the conditioner greatly improved the dryness of my hair and scalp, my hair doesn't feel as brittle or "like straw" from the coloring process. It didn't take me as long to comb out my tangles and once my hair was dry, it felt so much softer and healthier immediately. I also noticed the more I used these products, the more improvement I felt and saw as well! I wash my hair about 2-3 times/week and these products do not dry out my hair like other "purple" shampoos, etc can do. They actually moisturize your hair and scalp and improve everything. I highly recommend both the Pureology shampoo and conditioner for anyone who has blonde highlights, brassiness or damage! They work amazingly and I will continue to purchase and use these, even after my samples are gone! They've made a loyal, lifelong customer out of me now!
