The Philips - Hue Solo Lightstrip 10m is a deLIGHTful LED lightstrip. The Hue Solo Lightstrip series currently comes in 3 lengths (3m, 5m and 10m) and the 10m enables increased areas of application. I would recommend identifying the area you wish to illuminate prior to purchase and then determine if 5m or 10m is needed for you. If the 10m is needed (or greater than 5m) this is a delight and as most LED lightstrips have available there are designated areas available every foot or so to cut the light strip to avoid unwanted excess. The lightstrips are equipped with pre-applied adhesive, making the first application out of the box a sinch. The adhesive is not the whole backside, making application a bit easier than pulling off a long strip and hoping you do not get it stuck where you do not want them. The lights themselves are quick and easy to set up after being plugged in, interfacing within the Philips hue app. Through the app intensity and color of the light is easily controlled along with a couple presets. Philips describes these capabilities as RGBWW, which appears to enhance the vibrance/clarity of the white. I have had previous LED lightstrips where the white looks odd if directly looking at the strip (which yes, probably should not do anything) but these are clear. The RGB appear to be of the higher quality in that purple, yellow and orange appear nicely. Lower quality lights lose vibrance accuracy for these colors. The 1700 lumens provides a great ambiance and the colors display well. Otherwise these are able to connect into the Hue Bridge, which allows for control beyond Bluetooth, not a requirement. Also, as typical for a Hue device these are able to interface with Alexa and Google smart home set up.A keyword about these lights is in their title, solo. This translates into the LED strip is NOT extendible. Selecting the 10m length will likely cover most desired areas; however, this could be an important factor to keep in mind prior to purchase.Philips has made great strides with in home LED lighting over the last few years with the Hue product line and overall this LED lightstrip lives up to the Philips Hue name.

TLDR:Philips has many HUE white and color LED smart lighting products on the market; this is a 5 meter (almost 16.5 feet) long white or color light strip. It is smart in that both the HUE app and a smart device such as Alexa can control it to turn on, off and change colors per instruction and times defined by the user. It is economical to operate, runs cool and lasts a long time since it uses LEDs. It utilizes the optional HUE Bridge to add the most smart control functionality.Anyone who already owns a set of HUE smart lamps with a HUE Bridge is ready to go when purchasing this light strip. With the Bridge, using a Smart Speaker such as Amazon Alexa is as simple as giving it a unique name and speaking to Alexa to turn it on or off, change the brightness or the color and also programming timed home automation commands for when it turns on or off and on what brightness on which days of the week. With the Bridge, and using the HUE app or the Alexa app, these and other Philips HUE lamps can be turned on from anywhere you have your smartphone. The strip is also controlled using Bluetooth connection to the self contained power adapter that plugs into an AC wall outlet. It uses 24 watts at full brightness of 1,700 lumens. It also is compatible with Google Assistant (Google Home) in addition to Amazon Alexa, Apple Homekit and the HUE app.It has a 2 year Philips warranty. It is strictly for indoor use; it is not weatherproof. The strip is cuttable, can be installed to almost any cabinet, railing, or floor edge shape to add uplight, downlight or any other lighting effect to a room in any color. It puts out up to 1700 lumens when at full white Kelvin color temperature (the color of the light). The strip has a very tacky adhesive exposed by peeling away a strip. Note: The surface that the adhesive backed strip will be attached to should be thoroughly cleaned of any grease and dust so the adhesive will stay adhered and secure. The light strip itself is cuttable at indicated spots so it can be shortened if the area, say a top edge of a cabinet, is smaller than the 16 foot length. Note: once cut to a shorter length that “loose” cut off piece is no longer usable per Philips. That is a drawback IMO since by utilizing some sort of clamp on connector, possibly a thin power extension could be supplied to enable using the shorter LED strip in another spot if Philips made that. The box includes a tiny paper pictorial instructions sheet with a QR code to scan for more complete instructions. That seems to be the routine today with many products that require the buyer to do the extra step to learn the full capabilities of the device. This booklet is packed in a small cardboard thin package that may be overlooked so open the package carefully and don't assume everything is just packing material to be thrown out. Save everything and examine it carefully when opening the Philips HUE package. It is a great product for highlighting with color or for adding overall brightness to any room. The convenient feature of controlling it with a smart speaker, an app, or by programming it for on/off at certain times and brightness levels using the home automation via the HUE app (as well as via the Alexa app) makes it very versatile indeed.

The Hue Solo Lightstrip comes in several lengths with the 33 ft (10 meter) being the longest with around 183 individual LED groupings. It includes the light strip, wall adapter with 6 ft long cord, and RGBWW controller. Installation is quick and easy by simply peeling the backing off the sectioned adhesive along the bottom of the strip and adhering to a clean, flat surface, then plugging in the controller and power adapter. While the strip can be molded to go around sharp 90° corners, be sure not to place any LED or soldered joint on the bend, as this may damage the light strip. You also should not bend the strip 180° on itself or twist it.The LEDs themselves are ensconced in a clear, flexible silicone sleeve and can be cut to length in 13 inch intervals. However, it cannot be extended with an additional light strip and no jumpers are included if you want to bridge two cut pieces to span a gap. The lightstrip is able to output a maximum of 1700 lumens and can reproduce a wide range of colors. The strip is not waterproof, however, and can only be used indoors in dry locations.Since I don’t have the Hue bridge, I’m only able to control the lights using Bluetooth. However, I was surprised to find that even without the bridge I could utilize voice control with a smart home AI assistant like Alexa or Google, as these devices have built-in Bluetooth capability. This means that my phone does not need to be nearby in order to use voice commands. By default, the device appears as “first light” when setting up voice control, but that name can be changed. When using the Hue smartphone app I do have to be within 30 ft of the lightstrip to connect to it. I can turn the light on and off, control its brightness, set the color, or even set the strip to an animation in “effects,” for example, candle, fireplace, or prism (rainbow). When choosing a color, you’ll drag your finger across a color wheel until you find the color you want and can even save your choices as a named pre-set for later. If you just want pure light, there’s an alternate warm/cool wheel to help you choose the color temperature. In the routines tab, I can set the light on a countdown timer or specific time to turn on, off, or flash for 15 seconds at a specific color and brightness. There are also options for wake up and go to sleep routines that will gradually fade in or out the lights at a specific time over a 10, 20, or 30 minute interval. I can also push firmware updates to the lights within the app and control all my Philip Hue Bluetooth lights in one place. With a Hue bridge, you would be able to create more complex automations that include other Philips Hue products, like their security cameras, for event triggers. One thing to note is that if your power goes out, the light strip will automatically turn on when the power is restored. This is a bit of an inconvenience as during the summer and winter months our power typically goes out several times and often, multiple times a week if there are bad storms. If we’re not home when power is restored, the lightstrip would stay on for the entire duration until we return.Overall, this indoor LED lightstrip performs as I expected it to. You can cut it to length, but unfortunately not extend it. You also cannot set it to default to an 'off' state after losing power. I’m able to change its color, brightness, and set it to a color changing animation, and it’s easy to control using Bluetooth via the Philips Hue app and supports voice control via a smart home AI. With a Hue bridge, it’s also controllable remotely via an internet connection.

I’ve owned a few Philips Hue products in the past and have been impressed with the functionality on offer with them. They’re definitely on the more expensive side when it comes to smart lighting but in general I think they’re worth it and I feel the same with the Solo Lightstrip. Once it’s installed it’s pretty much plug and play and it looks great as natural white lighting or in color. I do wish that there was some kind of individual zone control to vary the colors by section, especially over the 10-meter length, but overall I’m very happy with it.The box includes the lightstrip, a control box, and a powe adapter. The lightstrip is 10 meters long, or about 33ft, and can be trimmed down in 13-inch increments. It cannot be extended though. The LEDs and electronics are encased in a silicone sleeve and though you’ll want to roughly lay out how you’re going to mount them before hand, the lightstrip wasn’t too unwieldy to handle while I was working with it. The adhesive material on the back is exposed by removing 5 inch sections of paper, which was annoying but at least made sure I was making good contact between the wall and each section of the lightstrip. I installed it near the floor of my basement on the wall as theater lighting and it probably took me about 40 minutes or so to move everything out of the way, stick the material down, and plug it in. In general I found it stuck easily to the wall and did fall down except at the very end of my run, though I suspect that had more to do with a change in paint material on my wall than the lightstrip itself.Once I plugged the lights on they turned on immediately and I went into the Philips Hue app to set them up. The lights will work both over Bluetooth or with a Philips Hue bridge (not included), though with the Bluetooth you are limited on some functionality. For my usage I already had the bridge from another set of lights I’d bought before. Setting them up through the app took just a few minutes and from there you get a pretty impressive array of options for configuring and automating the lights. I do find the Philips Hue app to be a little unintuitive to use, but it packs a ton of functionality into it, especially if you have multiple Philips Hue products. I mostly will end up using these through Google Assistant with my other lights. The lights themselves look great, both in cool and warm white and in color. They get very bright (up to 1700 lumens), but they can also get very dim and work well as theater lighting. The color of the lights seems to be the same throughout out though and I do wish there was some zone control built in, but that’s my only real complaint about them. The Hue app also has some fun animations built-in to do things like mimic a fireplace or a candle which is neat. The colors all look natural too and don’t have that weird bluish tint that some less expensive LED lights have.Overall I’m very happy with this lightstrip and I’ll probably try to get more for my shelves in the future. They make great accent lighting or just general lighting for how bright they get.
I installed the Phillips Hue Solo Lightstrip in a bedroom and it casts an ample glow, perfect for late-night television viewing or relaxing before sleep. Upon activating these lights, I was impressed by their luminosity. The setup was a breeze: install the lightstrip, plug it in using the power adapter (which is unnecessarily large and clunky by the way), and install the Hue app if you desire. It was effortlessly detected and operable by my Homekit and Alexa, so A+ for integration. The app promptly recognized the lights also. While the app features are somewhat basic—lacking the ability to display multiple colors simultaneously or varied effects—it does offer a mode that cycles through the color spectrum and dimmability. It’s important to note that while the Hue ... MoreI installed the Phillips Hue Solo Lightstrip in a bedroom and it casts an ample glow, perfect for late-night television viewing or relaxing before sleep. While the app features are somewhat basic—lacking the ability to display multiple colors simultaneously or varied effects—it does offer a mode that cycles through the color spectrum and dimmability. It’s important to note that while the Hue Solo lightstrip can be cut, there are no options to extend or reorient the strip once severed. The only thing you can do is throw the excess pieces away. The strip cannot be lengthened either, so it is better to purchase a longer strip than necessary and cut it to your desired size. The approximate 15 feet length of this strip is ideal for those who need a continuous, unbroken line of light. The lightstrip is affixed using double-sided tape, with no alternative mounting options like clips or brackets provided. The longevity of the adhesive’s effectiveness is uncertain as mine has already started to loosen in some areas, so I suggest using a stronger adhesive or clips.Overall, the illumination and integration of the lightstrip is great. However, I think the price is too high for what really is a basic lightstrip without many options or flexibility. Even if you have other Hue products, like I do. But the lack of options may be why Phillips calls it Hue Solo – because it’s not meant to “join” other lightstrips.
Philips - Hue Solo Lightstrip 5m - White and Color Ambiance. This 15ft long lightstrip can be used anywhere you want some splashy light effects, but for now, I’m trying it out attached to the rear of my new, family room 84” TV. This TV size works perfectly, allowing the lighting to fit nicely tucked away using whatever method of attachment you prefer. Philip’s strip has a strong adhesive backing but I wanted an initial temporary proof of concept. So, I attached Velcro pads along the back of the TV and used the complementary Velcro strip to “lock” the light strip in between. As you can see from the picture I included, it works. I need some finessing to the location of the strip, but it serves as my temporary test bed for a light effect display.I used a ... MorePhilips - Hue Solo Lightstrip 5m - White and Color Ambiance. Very slick and reliable connection with lots of features immediately available. I eventually linked to my Google Home and I can voice control a subset of features, including on/off, color selection, and brightness. I’ve included screen grabs from my iPhone to show the range of settings. Soon after I was up and running I checked for UPDATES, and sure enough, Philips has added some fun effects. Fireplace gives a slight flicker to a golden range glow to the lighted strips while the Prism effect rotates through all the available colors. I can use the color wheel to select individual colors and any intensity, which allows me to wash the wall with a color tone matching a movie’s dominant color. Added features like Opal, Candle, Glisten which change how the lighting pulses, changes color and flows along the strip. Then, there is a library of scenes, which Philips has created which all imaginatively mix effects and colors to create their own contribution to a party or an evening at home. It’s all fun, easy to use, and atmospheric. Every element of your decorations and party atmosphere are brought into play.
Philips Hue are not my first crack at using strip lighting for accents in my home; I have a couple of sets of no name lights that I use over my home theater setup, and a strip of Govee that I utilize behind a sectional sofa. While these both emit a soft glow, I was pleasantly surprised at the operation of the Philips Hue. Without a doubt, these are the brightest LED strips that I've seen or used.Coming out of the box, aside from the transformer that plugs into the wall socket, there is another small box that contains the wifi & Zigbee operation. If you're not familiar with Zigbee, it's a wireless mesh protocol that is utilized by various manufacturers to control a number of different devices that include lighting, motion detection, alarms, and others. I believe the primary reason that Philips builds this into Hue devices is that it can operate without your wireless network. As Philips now has a plethora of lighting devices under the Hue umbrella, they will all communicate with each other independent of your wifi.I had always glossed over all the Philips advertising of the Hue line, but now that I've tried the strip lights, I've bought in. I've ordered the Hue hub to act as a controller, and will give me the ability to operate lighting both indoors & outdoors via a phone app. Note that everything you need to control this light strip is in the box, but if you want to control multiple lights from one source, you'll need the Philips hub. While I love the performance of these lights, these are the most expensive strips I've seen. While I'd love to add some interior/exterior lighting into my setup, the cost soon becomes prohibitive. You can check their website to see how extensive their Hub product line is. For now, I've settled on adding the hub along with two more strips for mood lighting in my home theater area. The other issue I have is with the strips themselves. This is a 33 foot strip, I've utilized about 18 feet of it. There are lines marked with a scissor where the strips can be cut. However the problem becomes what do you do with the unused portion. While there are 3rd party connectors with which you can combine cut pieces of strips, I do not believe Philips authorizes this; nor do I recommend it. There are various Reddit topics that discuss this issue. It is there that I learned that not all the scissor markings are areas that will serve as connection points. I'm just stating this as I recognize the thought of waste will come to the minds of people as they're cutting up some expensive lighting. All that said, I am very impressed with the performance of the Hue, I would just be a little happier if the cost came down so I could add to my system.
The Hue Solo Lightstrip comes to the extensive Hue lineup as a 30+ foot option for those looking to spice up the lighting in their space of choice. It's a plug and play affair here, literally, for those with existing Hue setups and bridges. This is how I've utilized my Solo, though it also supports bluetooth only operation, allowing you to connect directly to the lightstrip and subvert the bridge. In my experience, the bridge helps reliability in a tangible way that makes it worthwhile, but if you're not feeling it, you don't need them. Beyond that, I was easily able to integrate the Solo into my existing rooms and scenes. This could not have been easier, which is a huge bonus when compared to some other options on the market. However, a few of those options provide something that this does not...The main downfall of this lightstrip is that it doesn't support simultaneous multiple colors. For instance, in a perfect world, the Solo would allow you to utilize all 33 feet of it to create an array of color options; for instance, where the first 10 feet could be blue, with a transition into red for the next 10 feet, with a transition back into blue. What you get instead is a lightstrip that has to be a singular uniform color. This is unfortunate, again, given the fact that this is a feature of many other options on the market, and overall limits flexibility in my opinion. In summation, if you're looking for a single color lightstrip and want the most reliable lighting ecosystem on the market, the Solo is a great option. It brings along with it the plethora of benefits that come with all Hue products, and makes for a great product. I just can't look past the inability of this strip to show multiple colors simultaneously.
We began our journey with Phillips Hue lighting almost three years ago when we remodeled our kitchen and decided to go with Philips Hue lighting for the entire project. The Hue lighting has been rock-solid. We use Amazon Echo devices to control the lighting and love how well Phillips Hue has built their Amazon Alexa integration. For our under-counter lighting we used four of the the Ambience gradient Lightstrips and have loved the results, though there are some things to be aware of that I’ll touch on in a moment. As we’ve continued to expand Hue lighting to the rest of the house we are currently running 62 Hue lights with 11 accessories split across two Hue bridges. While most of our Hue lighting are the 5/6 color recessed lighting, our latest project is building a home theater and our riser platform for the second row of seats needed two 12-foot light strips. This latest 5M Solo Lightstrip offering from Hue came at the perfect time for our project. There are a few frustrations working with Hue Lightstrips so lets get those out of the way first. The biggest one is that the power bricks are HUGE both in depth and in height. Flush mounting furniture or hiding the power bricks can be a challenge. In our kitchen our cabinet maker had to cut larger holes near the power outlets under the counters so that the bricks could plug in. For the theater riser, by pure luck alone we were able to hid the two bricks under the theater seats, with barely enough clearance. We have a third project to install the Lightstrips in a wine bar and we are already having to get creative with how we are going to work with hiding the brick in that scenario. Phillips Hue needs to put some more effort into shrinking the power bricks. The second frustration comes with cutting or extending the strips. Cutting the strips is simple. Extending the strips is simple with the extension kit available. It’s the inability to connect the cut strips to power that is frustrating. Phillips-Hue needs to release an adapter that lets you reconnect cut strips to a new power source. At the moment the only thing you can do with cut strips from the Solo line is to throw them away. The Gradient line can take the cut strips and use the Hue extension kit to lengthen the overall run, but even the Gradients can not be connected to a new power source. On the positive side, this 5M length eliminates the need to purchase two shorter strips and connect them with the extension kit to get to this length.Phillips Hue light strips are wider and thicker than almost every other LED strip on the market so if your installation will require installation in a track or other type of enclosure you’ll need to make sure to buy extra-wide channel lengths. We’ve lost hours of time online trying to find extra wide channel lengths that fit the Hue strips without success. They are supposed to attach to the surface using a tape-based backing that ships with the product. If the lights are being attached facing upward gravity and the included tape backing will work fine, but as soon as you invert the strips gravity gets in the way and the included tape is terrible. After a few weeks the adhesive began falling off the wood cabinets in our kitchen. We resolved this by using a heavy duty double-sided tape and have not had any issues since. For the theater riser, we are mounting them under the lip of the stairs, but since the stairs are carpeted, our solution here is to use plastic brackets that will be screwed into the carpet. The light strips snap into the plastic brackets to hold them in place.Despite these challenges, we love the results provided by the Hue light strips and the color changing ability introduces a level of whimsical fun that always brings out smiles at our house parties.
The hue lights are remarkable, with a superior design and excellent features. One of the advantages of the hue lights is that the strip can be cut, allowing you to place the lights all over your house or in different sized locations. This way, when your guests arrive at your home, they will be greeted by an even more visually stunning sight, regardless of the decorations you have put up.They can be installed on staircases to illuminate not just a single spot, but also a continuous strip that runs up and down the stairs, transforming your regular home into a spectacular one.You can use the curved strip to soften the effect of sharp edges, such those on TV flat screens, and it can also serve as a light to enhance your current lighting or behind objects on empty walls for contrasts and moods. One major perk is that all these different kinds of devices can work together on a bridge. This means that you can control your hue products more effectively than the hue app itself, and you can even make your entire house smart by having lights turn on when you enter certain rooms just by speaking to it with current popular smart home interface units. Both the independent smart devices and the hue app were at fault. My Android device was unable to identify the lights after installing the Hue app. The next thing I knew, I was instructed to reload the program, and all of the smart home gadgets disappeared. I didn't find any solution, but that was really my fault because I misplaced the magical QR code card that came with another hue product and The customer service provided was uncooperative and displayed a lack of concern. How can we rectify this situation? The hue lights' app was functional for the lights, and the hardware is top-notch, so I gave them a good review. However, I did find it frustrating that Phillips does not have an app for PCs, and I still think their products are top-notch.
