My go-to is the perimeter mode.I am looking to upgrade from my current vacuum robot with this, however that wasn't the case. This vacuum is not recommended for homes with excess furnitures or toys.

Was disappointed initially when I let the robot vacuum run for the first 20 minutes, as it did not seem to do a very systematic job in covering the area. My living room and dining area is a single continuous space, and the robot seems to cycle between its 4 cleaning patterns too quickly, which causes it to move to a different area before it had fully covered the existing one. However, this issue tends to fade away if the device is left to operate for its full 2 hour run time, as there is usually opportunity for the robot to return to previous areas (multiple times, in fact) to cover the spots that it previously missed. Reliability of the battery thus looks to be of primary importance, and there is no way to meaningfully assess that during the review period.Have ... MoreWas disappointed initially when I let the robot vacuum run for the first 20 minutes, as it did not seem to do a very systematic job in covering the area. Reliability of the battery thus looks to be of primary importance, and there is no way to meaningfully assess that during the review period.Have generally restricted the use of the robot to general maintenance of the living room/dining area, as there are pathing issues if the device is allowed to enter into the bedroom/study as well. In particular, the robot tends to get stuck for quite some time in the walk-in wardrobe where the pathway is narrower. The run time is not sufficient for the robot to properly cover both the living room/dining area and the bedroom/study due to the additional time required for it to navigate its way around the latter, unless the device is controlled manually to guide its pathing (which defeats the purpose of a robot vacuum). The device operates with a slight hum, which can be distracting if you are trying to watch a show or listen to music. To be fair, most other robot vacuums are likely to generate the same (or higher) level of noise.Overall, not giving a recommendation for this product on the basis that there does not seem to be any factor that particularly distinguishes itself from other robot vacuums in the market at the same price range.

The robot moves methodically in a roughly counter-clockwise direction, turning right at every chance, and we could see how it can cover my entire living room. But we didn't witness the entire process.as of any robot vacuum i would imagine, you do have to set up your room to be robot friendly - remove items that could make the robot stuck, close doors to rooms which you do not want the robot to go ... MoreThis is my first time ever using a vacuum robot, so I am reviewing this from a very objective perspective.Ease of use right out of the box is great, but you do have to flip on a manual power switch at the side of the vacuum.Vacuum operation is not noisy, which could be at the expense of suction power. some of the bigger pieces of litter on my floor weren't picked up. But we didn't witness the entire process.as of any robot vacuum i would imagine, you do have to set up your room to be robot friendly - remove items that could make the robot stuck, close doors to rooms which you do not want the robot to go into. (we didn't use the single barrier that came with the device, because it needs a ton of batteries which i didn't bother). For the few times that my robot did manage to clean my whole living room (which we assumed because it managed to get back to the docking station), the cleaning was decent, but like i said above, still some bigger pieces of litter left. For the other times that the robot got stuck, i blame myself for not preparing the room well enough. This being said, the robot got stuck at a normal children race-car playmat from Ikea so i had to fold up the mat in the end, which i thought it shouldn't have. The one gripe i have about the robot is that its programming is very limited. you either do every day, 5 weekdays, any 2 consecutive days, or 1 specific day in a week. I was looking for a basic alternate day programme but there wasn't! So i went with the 5 weekdays mode. So far, manage to get it to work (back to docking station) about 2 out of 5 times every week for the past 2 weeks.Another minor gripe is that the vacuum isn't that smart to go back to the docking station. Even with line of sight, it will still go about its usual mode of random searching. Only when the vacuum is like that 50 cm away from the station, then it will be detected and make its way home.Overall, i think the robot is decent, but you do have to properly set up the room to be cleaned. Time will tell if the robot is really good with more prolonged usage, i.e. battery reliability, etc.

Good but not great

Looks very promising, nice quality finish. It's so slim and looks capable of getting in and out of tight spaces. Just what I would expect from Philips. First power on and it runs on its own, didn't know what the functions on the remote means as the manual doesn't tell much. So I had to just use it and find out myself. Initial test was with random function, notice that it is able to sense objects that are straight line but not lower. It keeps hitting my toes and getting stuck on my chair. I had to move it manually a few times. It's not able to release itself. Didn't like the random function as it doesn't seem to be systematic in cleaning the whole area. Throughout the test period, my preferred is the perimeter mode as there are small items over different areas in the house. Suction is a bit weak as some dust can be left behind. It takes a long time to find its way home. There are many times we just use the remote to guide it back. For the retail price, I felt it should have app control and a zigzag function which is more systematic. For the price of over $400, there are better products available in the market. The good points are the quick charging and ease of dust disposal.

Good cleaner but too pricey
25 September 2018

This is a cleaner I wanted to try for a long time. Given its high price tag as compared to other similar cleaners, I had a high expectation for this. Unboxing and assembling was fairly simple and charging it to full for the first time took about 2-3 hours. Was very excited to start trying it but had some disappointment after the first full clean of 2 hours. It is quite noisy and can be pretty disturbing if you are trying to watch tv or do some work while letting it clean. The cleaning pattern was efficient but it needs a few rounds around the same surface area before it get throughly clean. However, it was unable to return to base after cleaning the bedroom as it somehow got “stuck” trying to navigate its way around the bed and the wall. However, it was unable to return to base after cleaning the bedroom as it somehow got “stuck” trying to navigate its way around the bed and the wall. As such, had to “rescue” it. Doing that prompt a beeping error sound and you had to press the home button to bring it back to base. Subsequent tries again had the same issue with the cleaner unable to find its way out after navigating that area between the bed and wall. Putting it on timer to clean daily works as expected. Overall, it is a good cleaner and perfect for busy household without time to spare to clean the house constantly. If the price tag was much more competitive as compared to other models in the market, I will consider getting it.

Overall good product

Good design, easy to use, dust bin can be emptied quickly and easily. Accessible noise level. Good battery capacity as advertised. This is not a smart robot as it does not map the room for navigation but simply cleans based on 3 programmed patterns. Thus, if the room is big, some areas might not get cleaned. Good overall cleaning of dust and crumbs. We did not test the mop attachment since we have carpets on tile or wooden flooring.Overall good navigation, but this will much depend on the type of furniture you have. In our case, the robot got stuck after mounting the pedestals of bar stools, in recessed rails of the balcony doors as well as under our living room sofas, where the gap is just a bit larger than the hight of the robot. In our case, the robot got stuck after mounting the pedestals of bar stools, in recessed rails of the balcony doors as well as under our living room sofas, where the gap is just a bit larger than the hight of the robot. Once stuck, the robot will shut down after some time. Unfortunately, there are not electronic barriers provided to keep it out of these tricky areas. In general, the robot easily transitioned from tiles or wooden flooring to carpets, except where carpets do not lay completely flat on the floor. Here, the brushes would go under the carpet with the robot trying to get onto the carpet. As a result, either the brushes get bent or the robot gets stuck. The charging station has to be placed in an open area well accessible area otherwise the robot will take a long time to home back to the base, if at all. Conclusion: Good value robot with solid performance. Good for a daily hands-off clean-up, but a weekly in-depth cleaning is still required. Unfortunately, in our particular environment, it gets stuck too often (mainly due to the furnishings in our apartment), so in our case is not completely hands-off and we can not simply let it run when out of the house.

Simple and affordable Robot vacuum cleaner
19 October 2020

I bought this product during a Philips Carnival at discounted prices. I had little expectation on this product but it did deliver fairly. This robot does not have mapping capabilities and it just vacuums in a staight line and only turns when it bumps into walls or obstacles. While it has a low-profile, it can cleans under some furniture which is good. However, it has a weakness to those mobile office chairs (with 5 wheels), as it often gets caught in between the wheels and get stuck. It also cannot clear some thick carpets or mats. Obstacles that are dark or black in color cannot be detected by this robot's sensors and the robot will try to "push" the obstacles for a few seconds before turning to another direction. Be careful of loose wires as the wheels can easily get tangled and pull the entire fixture down. While there is a mopping function, its just merely a micro-fibre cloth that you attach to the underside and it will wipe where-ever it go.. not as effective but its good enough for me. Attaching the mop attachment will not let the robot charge in its station.

Sleek and easy to use

My whole family was excited to know that we will be receiving a robotic vacuum cleaner for trial as it is our 1st time trying out. Kids were so excited over the beautiful rose gold colour and unboxing the robotic cleaner for the 1st time.1st impression:Sleek looking and beautiful rose colour.Setup:The robotic cleaner is very easy to setup, even for a noob like me. Juz needed to look at the instructions manual for the step-by-step guide to install. Pictures illustrations were easy to figure out.1st trial:As hubby had swept the floor just the night before, we just let the robotic cleaner have a short run. Didn't know what the icons on the controller meant, so juz randomly pressed the buttons to try out the mode.2nd trial:A quick glance at the manual before ... MoreMy whole family was excited to know that we will be receiving a robotic vacuum cleaner for trial as it is our 1st time trying out. Didn't know what the icons on the controller meant, so juz randomly pressed the buttons to try out the mode.2nd trial:A quick glance at the manual before letting the robotic cleaner worked its magic on our floors, allowed me to operate the robotic cleaner with ease this time round. Amongst the 3 cleaning methods, I prefer the perimeter cleaning which ensures all areas are covered. Zigzag method doesn't seems to cover the areas properly. As for spot cleaning, I use it if a particular spot is very dirty or to get the robotic cleaner to change the direction I want it to move. The arrows on the controller doesn't seems to be of much help when the robotic cleaner is on the move thou. The robotic cleaner manages to avoid obstacles and manoeuvre on my baby's playmat.Mopping function trial:Was very eager to try out the mopping function as I had seen other brands of older version of robotic cleaners that my relative was using doesn't have it. Soaked the cleaning cloth in cleaning solution, squeezed out the water and set it to work. Was able to see that the robotic cleaner is intelligent enough to not cleaning the same areas twice, which is good. Only issue is that as the cleaning cloth is small, I had to wet it 1x for each room, and 2x for bigger areas like the living room.Overall impression:We feel that the robotic cleaner is about to do the daily sweeping and mopping of the house, which saves us time and still lets us maintain our house cleanliness, which is very important to us as we have a very child at home. The robotic cleaner saves my back from breaking, as otherwise, I usually have to baby-wear my youngest while sweeping or mopping the floor. It is also a plus point that our kids were all very entertained by the robotic cleaner cleaning the house. Due to these reasons, we are seriously contemplating about keeping this robotic cleaner.

There were several times Xiao Hei was unable to find the dock after searching more than 5 minutes when the dock was within 2 metres. I realised that the sofa might be blocking the signal and shifted the dock out to have an uninterrupted line of sight before Xiao Hei finally managed to detect the dock and started to home in on its position.Xiao Hei moves at a relatively fast pace so it covers the entire apartment within 40 minutes. At this speed, I was surprised that Xiao Hei was able to avoid walls at a good distance. However, it was not able to avoid bumping into the legs of chairs and tables.Although it manages to scale our 2-cm thick carpets and mats, Xiao Hei fell over the 7-cm high ledge leading into the toilet several times. I had to close the toilet doors whenever Xiao Hei was operating to prevent further falls. We do not have a multi-storeyed home but I would be concerned that Xiao Hei may fall down the stairs if it was working on the higher levels.I will not recommend programming Xiao Hei to work the night shift after bedtime for light sleepers. Besides being quite loud when it is working, bumping into the chairs and table legs at night creates an eerie atmosphere. I did not programme it to work at night after bedtime since our trial period was during the lunar seventh-month.Nonetheless, Xiao Hei was easy to operate with intuitive buttons on both the main body and remote. Emptying the dust box was also a fuss free and straight-forward affair. What I liked about Xiao Hei:- Fast- Clean- Long battery life- Independent- Easy to operateWhat could be improved:- Quieter- More sensitive to the dock signal- Better obstacle avoidance for table and chair legs- Better detection and avoidance for ledges
