PetSafe ScoopFree Clumping Self-Cleaning Litter Box

I'm happy with this litter box! It has been wonderful not having to scoop the litter box everyday.We have two cats and I empty the litter box about twice a week, sometimes three. Both cats have been using the box with no problems. They adjusted really quick.Helpful tips:-It's best to use a higher quality clumping litter. The cheaper store brand clumping litter doesn't clump hard enough and gets stuck in the rake. I have had better results since changing litter brands.-If you choose to use a plastic bag in the bin, make sure the bin slides in completely. Sometimes this can leave a small gap and some of the litter doesn't make it into the bin and piles up on the floor.-I now do not use a plastic bag in the bin. Affordable/Reliable-ish

Major improvements compared to the original scoopfree litter box that uses the special blue crystals!There are few options on the market for an open top automatic litter box. I was debating between this and the Neakasa M1. This litter box was much more affordable at $250. The Neakasa M1 was $450 at the time of my research. If you do not need the bells and whistles that come with app controlled litter boxes this may be right for you.What I like about it is the large open top design. Good for larger and pickier cats. It is also low to the ground whereas the M1 look high up. Very simple plug and switch play. The waste bin is fairly large. For two cats I only needle to empty it about once every 2-3 days. I’m using arm and hammer clump and slide.I had trouble finding trash bags that would fit well. I ended up using it bare and it works better for me. Manual recommends 8-10 gallon bags.Still some odor. It doesn’t trap the waste in a sealed compartment like other robots. But it has made my life easier. I still need to do a quick visual check daily to make sure the waste bin cover didn’t get stuck or kicked off and the rake isn’t stuck. I still keep a scoop nearby to get the smaller pee clumps that the rake misses. It’s not perfect but it’s been better than 1-2x daily scooping with a regular box.

This litterbox has an impressive innovative modern design and is definitely larger than I initially thought it would have been, which could be a problem if it no longer fits where it used to, but has provided plenty more room to accommodate my furbabies to safely do their thing.I have since noticed, it definitely reduces odor tremendously to a minimum compared to their old standard regular litterbox with the automatic raking system and dumping the waste in the covered waste bin about 10 minutes after the sensors detect my cats movement. Plus, it provides a rake button which manually allows you to initiate a cleaning cycle whenever needed to help, as well.However, it really helps clean up most of the mess and work, but unfortunately the rake ends up dumping plenty of clean litter in the waste bin along with the solid clumps. Therefore, in order to preserve most of the clean litter, I have to manually rake the solid clumped litter out. Leaving me guessing if it's due to the brand of clumping clay litter used. I also notice, waste gets stuck on the rake often, which makes it more difficult to clean, but can be done easily, since the parts are all removable, when needed.Overall, my cats really enjoy it & I prefer it to a standard regular cat litterbox. The reusable tray is also nice along with the reduced odor and leaves less mess on the floor.

Good Product With Adjustments

I received this product to review. I have 5 cats so this is a super easy product for us to review. The brand/kind of litter you use definitely makes a huge difference. I have now tried our 3 normal brands of little which are Tidy Cat, Fresh Step and Frisco. The Tidy and Fresh Step worked the best for total clumping. I do have one cat that refuses to use the box, he is a very nervous weirdo that I love so it doesn't surprise me that he is frightened by it. All others have used the box without any issues at all. I do love that it leaves the box mostly clean between uses. The only time we had a problem is when a cat would urinate close to the rake and then it wouldn't catch it all when raking and it did gum up the rake a bit but not too bad at all. Great litter box for multicat households

Jams causing extra cleaning; Regret this purchase

I cannot recommend this equipment. I bought it because it claims to work with any clumping litter. I use Cat's Pride Max Power UltraClean Low Tracking Multi-Cat Clumping Litter Unscented. Every few days the rake seems to jam in its track and won't go back to the start. Not only does this cause a repeating whirring noise that scares my cat, it also causes the front flap to lift and stay lifted while the rake is underneath, resulting in a step so high my cat cannot possibly get into the litterbox. This cat is very clean and hates to go anywhere other than the litterbox but now she has gone on the door mat and I that's how I find out that the litter box is jammed again. Then I have to take the whole thing apart, clean it all out, replace the whole thing... and did I ... MoreI cannot recommend this equipment. Messy, stinky, more work than manual scooping

Poor design, rake turns downward before turning back upright to rake, so when they poop or pee near the end, the rake smashes down into the poop or pee clump, squishing it through the rake bars and the cross bars’ making an awful stinky mess that hardens on if you’re not there to see it happen. I have to remove the rake and scrub off the poop and dried litter daily. It’s harder than scooping and nasty. I’ve tried several litter brands, ultra premium clay litters, grass litters, with no luck. Also the tray has large gaps on both sides when it’s closed, so all the poop smells escape and stink more than a regular litter box where they’re buried. Needs to be stronger material

3 weeks now. I recieved it open box, and believe it was put on the sales shelf un-inspected. It came nicely packaged with most all original packing. But after setting it up and a trial run, it scraped the side through the raking process, and brutally stopped and restarted. I was ready to write a terrible review. But two things struck me as odd. It appears someone messed with it, and possibly packed it on the side. The rake literally scraped all through. I got a slight deal, so I worked on it having exceptional DIY and mechanics skills. I straightened it out and adjusted the parts back to original. Still one star off in two areas.I used "Sustainably yours" litter and noted that bad reviews are most likely using litters that stick to the pan, or are large grains. ... More3 weeks now. That rake also struggled with the larger grains in that they scraped along under the rake and catch with a shudder. I changed to the finer same maker sand like powder,and the issue resolved. The cats both are leary of the slightly loud mechanism and the fact that they can't sense 10 minutes. And get spooked. The other needed alteration to this is how flimsy the litter catch tray is. It sticks and binds when removing and needs a bit heavy tapping to be in all the way flush when fully in. Someone needs to fix that design goof. But all said, it's fine overall. Using litter that aids the rake is paramount to better ratings. BTW cats are getting used to it, slowly

One of my cats used it immediately but now the other two are scared because of seeing & hearing the box move. It does scoop the litter but pushes much clean litter into the pan as well. After self cleaning I have to get the scoop and get what the rake did not? I also noticed all of the litter on and around the box plus litter inside the pan area that did not go in the pan but underneath and around the pan. I wanted to try this so it would make my life easier but instead have added extra work to do that I didn't have with my normal box. I can also imagine how much more litter I'll need due to this pushing clean litter in the pan. I also don't like I have to clean the rake everytime it is used due to the litter sticking to the rake. I would rather have a hood for this box as well. With my regular boxes I had to clean them only 1-2 X a week and any tracked litter stayed on the mat in front of the box with no odor because of the hood. With this self cleaning box the litter is getting everywhere including on the inside and we can smell the box due to the open air concept. I have to scoop the box every use as well as the rake and on,in and around the box.

Super happy with product!

I got this as a gift, and I've been desperately wanting one. I feel it'd be essential to get one if I went away on vacation. (I don't want to stink up my place while away or give family/friends burden if we had someone cat sit.) Anyway, I read many reviews about the crystal litter eventually stinking up the place, which resulted in poor reviews. I never used the crystal litter. (The thought of saturated pee sounded yucky to me.) For those who want to use clay litter, which is not company recommended, it does work well with the automatic raking if you use premium clay litter (for hard clumping, i.e. Arm & Hammer Hardball). In the first week, I was sooo annoyed bc I had to scrape the clumps stuck between the "teeth" of the rake. (I was gonna give up and go back to the old way of scooping and forgo this machine.) The problem was that my cat tends to pee in the front corner of the litter box - any box, not just this one specifically. So I decided to turn the machine around (180 degrees), having the rake side against the wall and the magnet lid side to the open area. This honestly did the trick!!. my cat did not pee towards the rake which allowed the clay litter to clump properly and not get stuck in between the metal rack. The auto raking did it's magic!! Try this method and this should work for you! Getting this machine is worth the purchase then. (I read your can buy a permanent tray rather than the throw away boxes.)
