I have been using the P205 mechanical since college engineering. I didnt realize that there were other options to their line up of mechanical pencils until i checked out their company website when i replenished the 0.5mm lead. It took awhile to exhaust the supply of 90. I purchased the GraphGear 1000 and wow was I amazed on how this piece was put together. Good feel and weight while writing always with a sharp point. Love the idea when the lead is retracted inside, the small metal protector goes inside the barrel. No more sharp stabs to worry about when its in my back pack or pants pocket. I would highly ecommend this to anyone who enjoys the Pentel brand. Its also a good for drawing as well.

Metal mechanical pencils hold up over time compared to plastic disposable ones, and also cause less hand fatigue during use. However, soke are too heavy for my smaller hands, or designed so the pencil lead breaks frequently. I’m loving this Pentel pencil - I’m a casual user but I tend to do all my most important writing in pencil so I can erase and edit when I need to, so needed something of this level. The retractable tip has actually been a really nice touch. I wasn’t sure I would like it, but I really do. I would retract the lead each time on my other pencils, so the routine is already built into me. This is my go-to pencil. I use it for everything from taking notes to drawing. I only wish the eraser lasted longer. They use up almost immediately with the usable part of the eraser left unused because of the poor design.
I just moved into a new position and all I could find in the supply cabinet were those cheap little yellow mechanical pencils. I needed a more substantial pencil that would not lose the lead or the eraser whenever you touched it. The lead does not break when I start writing with it either. It's great!
I fell in love with this mechanical pencils the moment I held and used it, but it got minus a star because you have to go somewhere else to get lead refills. I use this pencil daily for my sketch ideas. It has held up well without the problem of the lead breaking while drawing. (I have had many cheaper brand that have.) Can not speaks for others, but this definitely my go to drawing pencil. Spend the money, choose a color and enjoy the pencil like I do. Many professional use this one, and I now know why!
I now have 6 of these ranging from 0.3 to 0.9 mm. The tip retracts when the clip is raised and extends again when the top is pressed. This eliminates any damage to the tube that extends beyond the tip and holds the lead - the single biggest cause of catastrophic damage. It is made largely from silver anodised aluminium that looks very fine. However there is some plastic used to make the hardness sleeve - you can twist this to note the hardness/softness of the lead through a little window. There may be more inside but I have not stripped it down to see. There is also some soft plastic, probably silicon rubber that form non-slips nodules. These can be seen in the photograph as four rings of dark eclipses. I would rather these non-recyclable materials were not used as ... MoreI now have 6 of these ranging from 0.3 to 0.9 mm. Otherwise I believe these would last for years and years. Why were these not designed and made in England?
I've been using Rapidomatic technical pencils for 25 years. With them disappearing from the market, I was looking for a replacement that had a great feel and weight and still functioned as needed. These pencils are beautiful and feel great. I can't attest to how well they'll hold up over time, though. The rubberized grip could be a problem in time. I like that the tips retract so they don't get damaged in transit.
After years of sketching with drawing pencils (constantly struggling to find a good pencil sharpener and to keep my pencil lines looking crisp) I now can't believe I waited so long to switch to mechanical pencils. Wow. SO nice.
