I own the Vypyr 75 the VIP 2 and now the VIP 3. I am particular about sound and feel. I own tube amps. I have more than 7 modeling amps. If you like metal such as Pink Floyd, Satriani, Steve Vai,Van Halen Toto, Boston, Gary Moore, all of 80s Metal, this is the amp for you. The included Triple x amp is the best articulate and balanced metal sound I have used. The 6534 is the fattest lead tone I have ever used. I visit my local store GC and this is my choice to audition guitars. It always gets a flabbergasted look from store clerks and customers. I have sold many of these VIP s just by playing them in the store. The VIP series is the most versatile and easy to use amp ever. The Free Peavy software editor Librarian makes it very easy to save as many patches as you wish but you can save any type of 24 patches in the amp. Trust me that this is enough but those tweaker that need more get the VIP 3 since it has 400 user editable pay he's and runs on the same software. The Acoustic amp SIM is really good for acoustic and the AC SIM is very good. The impedance is perfectly adjusted for Acoustic. Consider the VIP 3 if you need it in a band otherwise it is a great amp.

Im glad i invested in this little amp. Blown away at the high gain tones you can get out of this thing. Sounds so good its crazy. I use this to jam late night since it has a headphone jack. I sit in my living room pop in a horror movies and just practice scales , new riffs etc. I highly recommend this little amp for anyone into death metal , thrash , black metal etc. Definitely brings those tones which is amazing to me for such a portable little combo amp. The effects are very awesome too i might add. I recommend reading the booklet to insure you know how to navigate thru all the setting. theres lots to play around with.

Bought this amp on brand loyalty alone based on my owning two other great Peavey amps in the past. On paper this amp sounds great for the amount of features it offers. I wanted an amp that I could use with both acoustic and electric guitars and this one fit the bill. First off, this amp is extremely difficult to use. The owners manual is basically useless, a firmware update is required to be made right out of the box by connecting to the Peavey website. If you accidently load the wrong software update version your amp will be permanently ruined, no do over, you get one shot. Making settings isn't very intuitive and since the owners manual is extremely lacking, you'll be spending a lot of time watching YouTube video's on how to use it. If you want to unlock all of the useable features of the amp you'll have to shell out more money for the Peavey Sanpera 1 or 2 footswitch which is almost as much as the amp itself. I bought the Sanpera 2 and I could write another whole chapter on what's not so great about that either. My opinion-Peavey went downhill with these amps. You'll spend more time trying to figure it out instead of playing it. Might be good for metal lovers but for everyone else---look for something else. I traded mine for a better sounding, easier to use, Boss Katana MK2 100w and am glad I did

It's Nov 2017 as I'm writing this.Bought Peavey VIP 2 amp at guitar center Dec 2013. 5 year factory warranty (for a reason, I would find out over the course of 4 years) Used it as an acoustic amp the first year, sounded good, until the audio quit working at a gig. It was months past return period to GC. Sent to peavey for repair, paid shipping about 20 to ship just the head portion of the amp (removed from cabinet ). They said it was a cable issue. Got it back, worked fine. The 2nd year it sat in my garage for a while using it occasionally as an electric guitar amp. Sounded and worked fine until the hi gain amp channels (6506, 6534, xxx) started to sound WAY off. Uncontrollable noise and farting out, is the best way to describe it. The other amp channels were ok. Used it as my main gig amp for acoustic and electric gigs (oldies, classic rock and some metal) Also should mention I then purchased the Sanpera 1 pedal for about 120 new. What a difference in versatility. Was able to switch custom presets I dialed in. If you set the post gain on your rhythm channel at around 1 o'clock and your lead channel set post gain at full blast, you get a killer lead boost. Helpful in 2 guitar bands. Anyway, it worked fine for about 2 years until, you guessed it, the amp failed me at a gig once again. (Third time, if anyone's counting) What's that saying? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me...The audio started to cut out in the middle of a song. I banged on the amp in frustration and the audio returned, only to cut out and return a few more times before finally failing completely. Lights turn on but no audio from speaker or headphone jack. Same issue as the first time. Sent it peavey two days ago. 3rd time's the charm? We'll see.....
Very dissappointed in this amp on first round. I hope my replacement is better and if so I will re review. The amp made just a loud popping sound on start up and shut down. Yes Volume was at its lowest level and I even dissconnected guitar and tried alternate electrical outlets to no avail. I called Peavey and was told sometimes this happens from a discharge of power . How can there be a discharge on start up ? I was not satisfied with that answer and returned amp. So now if next one comes with same issues I will return and give up on this amp. It did sound pretty good when It was on , everything else seemed fine. Volume levels on presets are all over the map and you would have to fine tune these also. I hope Peavey revisits this pedal pricing, from what I know now it causes allot of folks to not invest in the amp due to the cost of needing the pedal . My replacement should be here soon I hope for the return process time wise from Musician Friends is way too long . I got first amp in 3 days. It has now been 10 days and no amp yet after I returned my first amp same day I got the RA from them and I brought to a UPS store myself not wanting to wait days for a UPS man to come to pick up for who knows when they would show up and what time of day. The return process in regards to shipping takes way too long in my opinion and promises made to ship new amp fast were not met until I had to call and get a supervisor to do so for me, but I am still waiting now going on 6 days and it is not due for another 3 days if on time , this after first amp was here in 3 days
I bought this amp for live performance because 40 watts is more than enough volume for venues I play. I also purchased this amp because I use electric and acoustic. Now I have acoustic presets ready to go without switching amps or having to DI into the PA although I do mic the Vypyr 2 just to fill out the sound and have a little in the monitors. This amp is great for acoustic in my opinion plus I use the bass presets for recording. As far as guitar goes the only trouble I have is deciding on a sound because the versatility is unreal. We play small venues where you need to get in and get out so having this amp do everything eliminates all the cables and pedals I'm constantly fighting while setting up and tearing down. This little guy is great fun, and should work perfectly when I'm playing music with my friends for fun, though probably not for a live performance at anything bigger than a house party or coffee shop. I have no intention of playing live, so no worries for me. The effects are a lot of fun (I can make my a/e mandolin sound pretty epic) and its loud enough to cut through my buddy's heavy drumming. The amp has very good transparency and the sound is a nice full spectrum with good bass and, with the 6505 modelling, not fizzy in the treble. I am actually impressed. This is definitely a giggable amp and since it has all the effects you need you don't need pedals (nor tuner). The chorus is very nice when used with the Twin and the foot operated wah is better than my Morley wah.The digital reverb is excellent.There are a few negatives. The looper is only 30 secs - not much use and they make way too much of it in the sales pitch and in the Sanpera 1 controls. Get a Boss looper or similar if you want to do some reasonable looping. The Sanpera 1 volume/wah pedal is cheap and the foot pedal does not stay depressed. I use duct tape to hold it "on", otherwise you have to to keep your foot on the pedal at all times just have output. Maybe this has been fixed in the current version (?)I don't like all the amp models - but frankly I wouldn't expect to with any make of digital amp.The amp is cheaply constructed, but it's so inexpensive anyway! Today, I would check out the Boss Katana amps too. But I remain impressed: great value!
This replaced my first one that was popping on start up and shut down > the popping is still there but much less and If I wish to keep this amp I will have to accept this popping issue I see now . I now finally began to try and tame the volume levels of presets only to find the manual very lacking in detail on use of the amp and editing . I had to search online for the editor ( was not on disc included in amp ) and here again no clear instruction on how to set up or use this editor . Since I have knowledge on hardware and computers I was able to figure out on my own. Still very limited editiing and I have not yet figured out how to adjust my preset levels on the amp itself and save. I also have not figured out yet how to load up the many user presets available on the Peavey Site ( good luck finding them ) I feel Peavey has made things a bit frustrating to the average buyer with the lack of information and the extra issues in setting up software and updates in todays world . The revalver software was nice but it did not allow you to use along with the amp nor have I figured out if I can transfer some of its sounds to the amp. If anyone knows how please let us out here how . It was strickly for computer use and recording with your DAW if you have one. I will say I did like the Revalver software now that I know for recording only it appears and not for use with the Vypyr Amps and it was easy to set up for me . I give it 3 stars due to the above reasons. Sound wise it seems so far to be nice, time will tell. The added Bass guitar input and use is a plus but only for those who need it. I could have just purchased the Revalver software to record with and leave the amp out.
I got this with the Sanpera 1 pedal system for basic jaming with friends, nothing too serious. The amp itself just doesn't sound very good to me, 60% of the effects are useless gimmicks and the distortions don't offer enough control for me.Probably fine for somebody that plays mostly metal in their bedroom and wants to play around with different effects.I tried all weekend to get a basic decent sound setup working, but in the end it sounded much better when pluged directly into my mixer with a DI box, or into my old amp.Combined with the pedal is where this really falls over. The main issue is that none of the pedals will activate until the button is *released*, the total opposite of every other pedal. Adding this to the fact you have to press down, then release to active a bank change it makes it almost impossible to quickly change from clean to distortion.You have to press the switch early, then release it when you want to change. But wait... there's also a *feature* where if you hold the switch for more than 2 seconds it will copy the bank from the previous slot to the current one.During my testing I also had several situations where the amp simply crashed and wouldn't change banks. Had to restart the amp to get it working again.Make sure you give this Amp a good test before buying it. It sounds cool for the first 5 mins but the novelty of all those "space invader" effects wears off pretty quickly.I def would not trust this amp in any sort of live playing. I returned mine after a weekend of testing. I had to pay for it to be sent back which shows how much I hated it.
