Patagonia Down Sweater - Forge Grey - 84675-FEG Down Sweat Colour: for

The down sweater will be the perfect insulation layer for a lot of people. Patagonia added more down fill in this version which makes it a bit warmer than the previous version while also adding some lighter weight shell material that keeps it packable. Initially I was concerned that the new shell would be more fragile but I have not had any durability issues yet. A friend of mine who also go the newest version of the sweater ripped the sleeve of his jacket when he got in a tight area on a chimney-like scramble although the damage was minimal and expected of any lighter weight jacket. Overall I am impressed by the performance of this jacket. It is warmer than I expected and carries into many different activities. I have used mine as layer while standing around between boulder attempts, on cold walks (20-30 degrees with a light base-layer), over a soft shell while skiing to keep warmth between transitions, and in the house as my family likes to keep things on the colder side. It is a layer that is light enough to justify bringing everywhere but warm enough to punch above that weight. The features of the jacket are also amazing. The zippers are more robust than a lot of its contemporaries (like a cerium or ghost whisper) and the collar has been given some more height that really does help to keep in warmth (it is noticeably higher and more snug than that of a nano puff and the last model of down sweater). Everything else is equally high quality with the exception of the cuffs which are looser than the older model (I wish they would have just kept those cuffs). While not a deal breaker (they are still functional) the cuffs keep this jacket back from being perfect. With that being said, this remains the classic puffer and will perform as expected. If you're on the fence I would wait until it goes on sale then pick one up, chances are you won't be disappointed.

Bought it on sale for $140 and for the price its an amazing jacket. Originally bought with the intent of having it for use on the trail during the cold months or for wearing around camp when backpacking. It's incredibly warm, almost too warm at points. I never end up wearing it while actually doing any activity but it makes for the perfect camp jacket when backpacking during the colder times. It packs down super small and light and I've actually found that when packed down, it makes for the perfect pillow and so I don't need to carry an actual pillow with me in my pack. I've also used it while skiing in NH this season and while the temps have been bizarre at times (upper 30s to 40s!), it's been perfect for late in the day or on the runs where the sun is ... MoreBought it on sale for $140 and for the price its an amazing jacket. And then I'd pack it down small when I got to class and stuff it away in my backpack. This is my first down jacket and given how expensive it is, I tend to baby it a lot because I'm worried about ripping it or ruining it. It can take some light abuse, but should for sure be treated with care and paired with a shell during potentially dangerous activities which could rip it. I love it so much and hope to wear it for years to come. Still uncertain if I think it is worth full price however but I suppose that's Patagonia for ya

This is a very comfortable fully featured down jacket. The fit is perfect (175lbs). Its very warm and is extremely light. Hand pockets are inside the down layer so they're really warm and the inside pockets are very large so I can stuff my gloves and scarf in there when not needed. The inside chest pocket is well designed unlike my Arc Atom LT which has a droopy internal chest pocket that gets a little weird when my phone is in there. The nylon shell seems super solid and I haven't noticed feathers coming out. Solid construction. My reasons for not giving this five stars is:1) They removed the hem adjuster from inside the pocket to the inside of the bottom hem so you can't comfortably adjust them unless the jacket is open or you awkwardly flip it up.2) The ... MoreThis is a very comfortable fully featured down jacket. Solid construction. My reasons for not giving this five stars is:1) They removed the hem adjuster from inside the pocket to the inside of the bottom hem so you can't comfortably adjust them unless the jacket is open or you awkwardly flip it up.2) The material is not comfortable next to skin. My neck gets uncomfortable quickly unless I'm wearing a scarf, a collared shirt, or a hoodie so my neck doesn't touch the nylon.I bought this to replace a Columbia down jacket I had for almost 10 years that had a small patch of material just on the neck so I didn't have to worry about what I was wearing to stop my neck from getting clammy.A little microfleece at the neck would be amazing.
