The Fellow OPUS gives you some custom or fine grind for any coffee or espresso top-performance product. I needed a good coffee grinder for home that makes beans into shredded for espresso and this top-of-the-line product really gets the job done. It is really quite when grinding the coffee beans. It has some really nice features. It comes with a single dose load bin, a grind adjustment ring, 40 MM stainless steel conical burrs, magnetic align catch and power button with timed auto stop. The timed auto stop comes with 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 90 seconds and 2 minutes for timed grinding. One of the coolest features is when you put the cup into the grinder the magnet places the cup in position right away. A really easy setup and the instructions were easy to follow and understand, it came in English, French, and Spanish. The product came nicely packed and organized. The manufacturer had one of the best packaging i’d ever seen. The box and packaging were very durable and fine. They really care about their items and look. The product comes with a 2-year warranty and if you register the manufacturer will add an additional 1-year coverage. That's not a bad deal. Also, it's very easy to clean out.

After a year of getting into the world of grinding my own coffee, the Fellow Opus grinder feels like the perfect reward for all my research. First off, the thing just works. The consistency is on point—no more dealing with uneven grounds. Whether I’m making espresso, pour-over, or cold brew, the grind settings are super intuitive and cover everything. It’s rare to find a grinder that balances versatility and precision this well. What really blew me away is how quiet it is. I expected some noise, but it’s surprisingly soft compared to others I’ve used. Plus, the design is minimalist but not in that “form-over-function” way. It’s clearly well thought out, from the catch cup to the way the grind dial moves smoothly without feeling flimsy. The grinder this replaced was "simpler" to use in that you would simply fill the hopper, set a number of cups to grind for and then hit go. The Opus has a large enough hopper to do something similar, but with only the option to grind for 30, 60, 90 seconds, or until you press stop, this makes for a much more interactive grinding experience.I'm only writing this for others' consideration. The grinder is great. I replaced my old conical bur grinder because it was very inconsistent. Regardless of the grind setting, there was always a fair amount of fine dust that would come out with the grounds. This grinder blows that old one out of the water for grind consistency. No powder, just very consistent grounds every time.Just be aware that if others you live with are ... MoreThe grinder this replaced was "simpler" to use in that you would simply fill the hopper, set a number of cups to grind for and then hit go. This means you'll either be doing it, or they will learn to rely on a 30, 60, or 90 seconds grind time. This can be fairly accurate if you do the leg work to figure out how much water to use for each of this grind times, however the amount of coffee ground will vary by bean, due to size, and weight.5 stars because its an excellent grinder. I received this Fellow Opus Conical Burr Grinder through Influenster, and I must say that I am impressed! I received the grinder quickly, and it was well packaged to prevent damage in transit. They have made it idiot-proof and SO simple to use... Between the two grind size adjustment rings there are 41+ different settings and 120 possible positions that you can set your Opus to grind to.Not only does it grind coffee beans, but it also includes a portafilter dosing cup that can be inserted into the catch cup... Which, after grinding, you would attach to your portafilter to transfer the grounds, allowing you to easily measure, grind, and transfer espresso beans straight into your espresso machines portafilter. Then you just insert the portafilter into your espresso machine, and voila! Freshly ground espresso! The portafilter dosing cup is compatible with both 54mm AND 58mm portafilters! And anyone that has ever used a grinder before knows how messy they can be and how static can cause grounds to stick and end up all over the place. The Opus features a magnetically aligned catch cup that snaps beneath the chute to ensure grounds fall nice and neat. It also features anti-static technology to help keep whatever you're grinding in the catch cup, where it's supposed to be, and prevent potential static from making messes. All in all, I really like my Fellow Opus Conical Burr Grinder. It works great, was super easy to use, has a massive possibility of grind options, and allowed me to finally be able to try this bag of whole bean coffee that I have had in my cupboard forever!Thank you, Fellow and Influenster, for a great, fresh cup of coffee!

We got the Opus as part of our first espresso set-up. When functioning as intended, we loved it. It felt like a good value especially since we're not super into fancy espresso set-ups and let us grind our drip and cold brew without needing a whole other machine. It definitely can get grounds everywhere, but as long as we did a quick sweep every grind or two, it never got too bad. However, we have not been able to get a working machine for more than like two months. The first Opus we got was incorrectly calibrated- to grind espresso we needed to be at setting 5 or above, otherwise our espresso machine would get clogged. We determined with Fellow's help center that it needed to be returned and replaced. We determined with Fellow's help center that it needed to be returned and replaced. The second Opus was great as described above, until it broke. Inner burr snapped off of its plastic supports, so rest in peace to our favorite Opus. We let Fellow know, and they very graciously replaced it for us. Except we got it today and it is also incorrectly calibrated, where grinding on setting 1 will just pour water from our espresso machine. The quality control in their factories must be nonexistent. In summary, one star because machine is good for its price in our opinion, one star for Fellow helping us out when we had issues, but no more because they cannot seem to consistently produce a working product.
I was incredibly excited to try this grinder, as I am very into making my own coffee at home as a hobby, and had actually previously looked into purchasing a Fellow grinder. I did not and opted for the slightly more expensive Baratza Virtuoso+, which currently retails for $249.95 (compared with $199 for this grinder at the time of posting). While I recognize that grinder is slightly more expensive, I am using it as a point of comparison as I believe both would appeal to similar consumers. In my opinion, the Virtuoso+ is better in both build quality and grind quality than the Opus. In addition, I felt that, although both grinders had 40 settings, the Virtuoso+ made for a smoother grinding experience. The one thing I did prefer with this grinder was the cleaning process, which was much simpler and easier to complete. While I recognize this isn’t Fellow’s top of the line grinder, they are still charging a high price point for it in my opinion. For the $200-250 range there’s simply there’s simply better grinders out there.
TLDR; as the title says this grinder is quiet, efficient, and clean. it perfectly needs our needs. It's ideal for single serving grinds, but maybe less perfect for people who like a large hopper, and grind large volumes. We got this to replace an ancient Braun conical burr grinder that was high speed, and very noisy. Because of the high-speed, the Braun generated a LOT of static electricity which would lead to coffee grinds flying all over the place if specific measures weren't taken to avoid that.We got the Fellow Opus on sale based on excellent reviews online, thinking that we needed a grinder capable of giving us espresso grind. Afterwards we realize that we have a pressurized portafilter and in fact, don't want an espresso grind. Afterwards we realize that we have a pressurized portafilter and in fact, don't want an espresso grind. The OPUS is quiet, exceptionally so in comparison to the old Braun that scared the cats, and required ear protection. The Fellow operates quietly in the background. It's easy to adjust the grind and generally simple to use. We measure and grind just what we need and it's perfect for this purpose. It has a device to remove/reduce the static, and the cup holder for the ground coffee perfectly fits the portafilter, leaving little to no mess. All in all we couldn't be happier with the Fellow Opus Conical Burr Grinder. We highly recommended it.
I'll start with the few positive piecesPositives: it looks nice, the catch cup is a nice design and I like the magnet, it is rather quiet.Negatives: The guidance markings are meaningless and calibration of the machine is very poor.Understanding how to make adjustments is not intuitive and you'll either need a calculator, or some higher education to do it effectively (Luckily someone out there created an app to help).Grind settings appear to mean nothing - I have been trying to dial in my espresso and having gotten one almost there and made the grind 1 micro adjustment finer using the inner ring. I verified this measurement against the app. Going 1 micro adjustment finer should have increased brew time slightly, but lo and behold, it cut my brew time by 10 ... MoreI'll start with the few positive piecesPositives: it looks nice, the catch cup is a nice design and I like the magnet, it is rather quiet.Negatives: The guidance markings are meaningless and calibration of the machine is very poor.Understanding how to make adjustments is not intuitive and you'll either need a calculator, or some higher education to do it effectively (Luckily someone out there created an app to help).Grind settings appear to mean nothing - I have been trying to dial in my espresso and having gotten one almost there and made the grind 1 micro adjustment finer using the inner ring. I verified this measurement against the app. Going 1 micro adjustment finer should have increased brew time slightly, but lo and behold, it cut my brew time by 10 seconds. Please make this make sense where going 1 finer somehow knocks 10 seconds off brew when keeping all other aspects of puck prep constant.I'll also note that it appears my machine is defective as the inner burr is wobbling when it is running. I currently have a warranty claim, but wish I could return it at this point. Unfortunately the espresso machine I had ordered arrived late and I've only just been able to try this out and it is past the 30 day return policy timeline.Would not recommend, I would return mine if I could. Please note: if by some miracle customer service is able to fix this through warranty I will update this rating, they have been responsive, albeit unhelpful suggesting that it is normal to see variations in brew time due to environmental conditions and fine adjustments.
Thank you so much, Influenster and Fellow, for sending the Opus Conical Burr Grinder in exchange for an honest review. WOW!! This is the best coffee grinder on the market!! And I'm shocked with how flavorful and delicious making my own coffee and specialty coffee drinks at home is while using this low noise grinder. It's very easy to use. Opus includes a spouted catch for mess free transactions, a volumetric closing lid to measure the perfect amount of coffee beans with a grind guide, so I can't get confused and anti-static technology to minimize retention. Making the best cup of expresso or iced coffee. It's better than any coffee shop. This is definitely worth investing in, especially if you are an avid coffee lover. I think this would make an excellent birthday or Christmas gift. This does not take up too much counter space. It looks modern and sleek, giving a classy, sophisticated look to any kitchen or coffee bar. Now that coffee tastes better and easier to make with the precise grind of the coffee bean for different types of coffee, I can't wait to try out new recipes. I highly recommend it.
