Capture and monitor your audio with pristine clarity. The M2 provides best-in-class speed for monitoring live inputs (mic, guitar or keyboard) through your computer, thanks to MOTU's expertly engineered USB drivers, which deliver class-leading, ultra-low 2.5 ms Round Trip Latency (at 96 kHz with a 32 sample buffer). When recording and mixing, nothing is more critical than achieving optimum levels. The M2 is the only audio interface in its class with a full color LCD featuring clear, detailed level meters for all inputs and outputs. Enjoy professional-level volume control and feedback to get your sound just right. The M2 driver provides convenient loopback channels to your host computer, so you can easily route computer output back to the computer, where you can mix it with live mics and/or guitar inputs from the M2 in your host software for live streaming or podcasting. Streaming and podcasting has never been easier and better-sounding!

That one comes in a little cheaper, but doesn't have the build quality, MIDI in/out, LED screen for monitoring, separate gain knobs (ins, out, and headphone on the Audient all use the same knob, so you can't change anything simultaneously). At the time of writing this review, I can confidently say this is the best 2in 2out interface in its price range.

Needed new PC audio interface as my Echo firewire and Windows 10 were no longer working together. First tried Behringer UMC204HD. Drivers worked great but noticed that my musical keyboard would clip/distort at low volume levels. Never had that problem with ECHO firewire AUDIOFIRE4. Second try was this MOTU M2 USB interface purchased March 33 2022. Noticed immediately that keyboard could go much higher in volume without clipping. Sound was clear and love *LOVE* full color meters vice clipping lights found on other audio interfaces in this price range. One of the most frequent complaints of otherwise excellent equipment everywhere is the mystifying choice of manufacturers to choose small, insecure sockets instead of full-size, be it micro-HDMI instead of full-size HDMI or, in this case, a dinky, floppy, insecure little USB Type C over a full-size Type A USB.It's a reason to avoid equipment. If this were not a gift for someone who needed independence (from my interface!- an Octacapture:), I would not have bought it.It's not as if there isn't room enough in the case for a USB Type-A, because there's plenty.Although the audio quality, build quality, meters, and ease of use of the MOTU really do make it best-in-class, the wimpy Type-C USB connector reduces it to a more of a toy and less of a serious piece of ... It's penny-wise and pound foolish on an otherwise nicely built piece.Perhaps they'll put a USB Type-A on it in future revisions. It deserves that respect. It's a shame MOTU didn't see this already.
So, let me start by saying, not everyone requires what this interface has to offer. Not everyone needs two mic pre-amps and inputs, a midi in/out, both balanced TRS and RCA line-outs, loopback so you can record the audio being played through the interface, a really nice and transparent DAC, or native ASIO drivers. In fact, I'd argue that most people don't require these things. If so, save yourself some cash and buy a Behringer UM2. If you set it up right, you won't notice much of a difference in your recordings. HOWEVER, THAT ALL SAID, if you do require these features, or will use them regularly, you will NOT find a better interface at this price point, period. And on top of that, it has a bunch of other convenient little features, like individual 48v Phantom Power buttons for each channel, a very granular screen for level-checking, and a power switch on the back to disable without unplugging. I've had this interface for about 3 months and it's been incredibly lovely to me. I use most of those features mentioned aside from MIDI, so it was definitely worth the investment. I really cannot recommend it enough, if you have a need for what it offers.
Hello! I would like to share my impressions of the MOTU M2 audio interface.I would like to start my review by taking a closer look at the features, hardware, and build quality of this product. MacOS and Windows support.I believe that this sound card implements the initial and most necessary functionality for a small home studio without unnecessary, and often unnecessary functions. MacOS and Windows support.I believe that this sound card implements the initial and most necessary functionality for a small home studio without unnecessary, and often unnecessary functions. The value is excellent. The drivers are stable. I did not feel any delays or problems.2 Hardware +++++.This is the main criterion that affects the sound quality. As a rule, components of not the highest quality are used in audio interfaces of this price category (DAC, ADC, operational amplifiers). But after examining the printed circuit board, I was delighted when I saw a high-quality DAC ESS Saber 32 ES9016S, which is used in audio equipment of a higher price category (Apogee Element), and an ADC AK5552, which also has quite high characteristics. An excellent result was shown by the built-in headphone amplifier, which is built on the expensive OPA1688 operational amplifier, it perfectly sounded my Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro headphones. Excellent THAT 6263 ICs are used as mic preamps. The rest of the operational amplifiers - OPA1678 from Texas Instrument - are excellent and expensive ICs.Conclusion - incredibly high-quality filling for a device in this price category.3 Build quality ++++.The only thing that drew little criticism was the build quality. In general, the sound card is assembled well, but I was not satisfied with the fixation of the buttons on the panel - they are slightly recessed into the case and not even. This is noticeable, and not entirely pleasant ... Although, given the cost and sound, this drawback can be considered insignificant. Conclusion - MOTU M2 is a leader in its price category in sound quality, with excellent equipment used in more expensive products, with the most necessary functions for home studio and personal use. Thanks to MOTU, thanks to MusicStore!
Simple, straight forward design. Both frontal inputs are highly versatile accepting TRS & XLR line level, instrument and mic inputs. The manual on/off button in the back is a plus although some that may not know why. Both jacks should be capable of powering a guitar pickup or Mic.Obviously MIDI in the back but I would have preferred SPDIF/ADAT coaxial and optical in/out instead of MIDI. I suspect it's a feature that i'll never use.Very compact unit, it's small enough to slip into the pocket of a backpack and powered by a USB3 jack that can be used purely as a power source or run both power and data through it. You could carry most of a studio's worth of digital gear (mic, DAC etc) in a backpack. If you plan to do a remote somewhere with minimal gear, these are a ... MoreSimple, straight forward design. I feed two powered studio monitors with the line outs.It has enough power to passively power or actively power most mics, and probably instruments as well. It should auto detect that you have an instrument plugged in.I think I would have preferred an m4 but budget was too tight for that. My preferred choice was a RME Babyface Pro, which is a substantial upgrade in every way from that but if you can't afford that, this unit or the m4 will do just fine (I lean towards the M4). Audio review snobs that ran it through its paces had good things to say about the quality of the DAC on the Motu M2/M4, pitting it against units priced in the 1k+ range.I was expecting a software key or something for Ableton, but the unit comes as is with USB cables.
The Motu M2 is a great little Audio Interface for a very reasonable price. Take this with a grain of salt, as this is the first home audio set-up I have, but I looked around comparing it to different models such as the Focusrite Scarlett, Presonus, and Steinberg. If you are a novice, like myself, then any one of these will honestly get you by.However, I personally love having the display on the M2, as it lets me know what's being converted, and if it's making it to my recording software. The phantom power works great, and the buttons are pleasant to the touch (again, just preference). For the price, this one is also competitive with the Steinberg since it has 2 inputs instead of only one.My friend purchased a Scarlett at the same time, and they seem to be ... The M2/M4 series was backordered for a while, but I was willing to wait a bit longer for the Motu as it had very good reviews. I even asked their Customer Support if the model was out of production (due to Covid), and they got back to me quickly, which is always good to have in a CS. I feel confident about the price and quality of this purchase, only time will tell now for its longevity.
I cannot take seriously any company that makes equipment which dies in less than a year. The registration was accepted -as it should be for equipment less than a year old- and she has contacted MOTU for help.Let's see if MOTU stands by their product.I had misgivings about an interface powered by only USB C: it's a flimsy choice. Is there no room in the case for USB A, or did the accountants decide that 60 pennies saved is better for their own pocketbooks? I think we know the answer to that question. How about if everybody stops squandering our ONE Earth's limited resources by designing garbage, and build equipment that can stand the test of time?
I bought this hoping to pair audio of a grand piano from two AKG microphones with video from my phone. I couldn't get that to work and ended up buying a 1080p webcam, which has worked fine, though the video quality isn't as good as the phone would have been (still, the audio is the point). As advertised, the meters are clear and precise, much more so than my portable digital recorder, which has been helpful for tweaking not just the levels but mic placement. Big downside: when I downloaded the driver, it also installed a program that ran constantly, even when the Motu wasn't installed, and ate some battery power, and I eventually had to uninstall it. That's something that needs to be fixed--the whole point of this thing is that it's portable so you can run it ... Otherwise, I don't have major complaints. One thing I like a lot about it is that its RCA outputs can be used not just for monitoring but for outputting computer audio, so you can use it to play computer audio on a stereo system.
