Loved the look of the original Thermal Carafe. This one is .. much more consumer looking. Functionally, I really enjoy the glass lining, really changes the cleaning options, as well as cleansing the flavor of any metal tang. While new plastic top does control the pour, preventing spills; it is disastrously, perhaps show-stoppingly, slow. And finally, I have NOT found any improvement to the thermal ability of this jug. It seems to loose heat at approximately the same rate as the original carafe, under similar circumstances. Overall I really enjoy the glass lining of this carafe–however, I find several of the new (& old) features disappointingly inferior to capabilities of other manufacturers (significantly less expensive) thermal jugs.

I pre-heat this thermal carafe every time I brew and the coffee still does not stay hot for longer than about 10 minutes, if that. The company has been well aware of this issue for quite some time based on the reviews I've read here and elsewhere but oddly, they have done nothing to update their product to reflect the high price. It does make good coffee -- so you better drink the whole amount quickly. By the way the travel lid is only slightly better at keeping the coffee warm, but not much longer, so "Travel lid" is a misnomer. I wish the company would listen to their customers and make some changes. PS the drip-stop lever on the basket is also known to stop working (both the part/levers, and the basket itself is plastic, which may contribute to the problem).

Thanks to customer service for replacement. Two thermal carafes have had the thermal glass inside the metal case become loose and leak water (condensate). Attempt to do the “easy fix” by removing slotted bottom plug and then the plastic base was impossible in the latest carafe failure. It was thrown away. Attempts for both Carafes using a quarter held with vice grips and using two people, resulted in bending the quarter. The carafe bottom that moved loosened the slotted plug and plastic base as a single unit. Not such an “easy fix.” Hope the new unit doesn’t leak! Customer service says “no further replacements.”The carafes were handled gently with hand washing only. Seems like a design flaw!

I am 75 with hand arthritis. It took 2 people to take the thermal carafe apart. One to hold the carafe and one to use a vice grip with a quarter in its jaws. The slotted central plug was fused/fixed to the base. The plastic base likewise fixed to the metal threads. Finally, the plastic base budged. The force needed with the vice grip bent the quarter. I bought a replacement thermal carafe, so I don’t know if my “repair” actually worked. I expected and would recommend Moccamaster replace defective thermal carafes and do the repairs on defective carafes. Have been a customer for many years and am very disappointed by this product failure and the lack of customer service.
Everything the original all-metal carafe should have been.Functionally ok, but the usual Technivorm mediocre plastics.Pros:- finally my coffee doesn't go all around the cup when pouring at more than 3 drops/hour, as with the old all-metal carafe.- keeps coffee hot for a long time.Cons:- price- fact that there was no trade-in option for the old design flaw of a carafe.- plastics. Wobbly handle, sharp edges, mediocre fit when warm.Let's see how long it'll last.
I've experienced multiple instances of damage with Moccamaster carafes, despite meticulous care to avoid thermal shock and physical impact. I rate the product 2 stars due to its fragility. However, Moccamaster's customer service merits 5 stars for their responsive and accommodating replacements. This, unfortunately, doesn't address the long-term durability issue, so users should exercise extreme caution to prevent damage. This seems to be a common problem, as corroborated by other online reviews.
What a disappointment. This astronomically expensive coffee maker has been nothing but one headache after another. Now, the carafe, which is a replacement because the one that came with the machine leaked, literally exploded this morning sending glass all over the sink. Imagine spending $350 for a coffee maker and getting a leaky carafe, the basket breaks less than six months after you get it, and the replacement carafe explodes. Buy something else, you will be thankful.
I purchased the glass lined thermal carafe to replace a 12 year old stainless lined version that had lost its vacuum. The glass lined one had a terrible taste it did keep the coffee warmer than the broken one. But then the glass lined one broke 3 months after receiving. Very unsatisfied with my purchase. I really wish I could just buy a stainless lined one again.
This carafe worked well for about a year. Then left alone on the counter one night, clean and dry, the glass inside spontaneously exploded into thousands of shards and left tiny bits of glass on the surrounding counter. It had been well cared for according to the instructions - never used abrasive cleaners or scrubbers. Never dropped. Then one day it just decided it was time to go.
I bought my Moccamster, with the old style stainless carafe, in 2015. No longer insulating after the spouse submerged it, I bought the new version in late 2023.Like some others have reported, mine leaks water from between the stainless and plastic base. It appears that water rolling down the sides during cleaning gets between the stainless and the plastic. I assume they omitted a seal in the design. It’s not a big deal, as long as the water doesn’t damage it, like it did my first.
