Microsoft 4000 Wireless Mobile Mouse

Cute little mouse. Tracks well on surfaces and works as expected.The wheel is rubbish. I mean, honestly, I thought we had perfected this technology by now.The wheel has no clicks, which would normally be fine.The wheel responsiveness is horrible.Trying to scroll slowly and the wheel randomly goes to sleep.I find myself actually flicking it forward and then having to scroll back again.Sometimes, when you first start to scroll, it will actually hop backwards before responding.Going through feeds, or documents, or source code, and trying to get any kind of consistent scrolling behaviour is just hopelessly dead on arrival.At first, I actually thought it may have been dropped on its head during transit.Then I read the other reviews and found that, no, it ... MoreCute little mouse. A glutton for batteries but a really great mouse.

Great mouse. Have owned several. PROs Comfortable, very well designed. Has just the right weight to it, The Bluetrack is great and means you can use it on just about any table surface without a mat, even glass, suprisingly. CONS.The rubber wheel is the first thing to go after heavy use. The wheel is still functional even if the rubber outer ring has come off. Worst thing about the mouse is that it rips through batteries, especially if like me, you forget to switch it off after use, so cost of ownership is quite high when you factor all the Duracells you have to pump into it over it's lifetime. I would recommend that you get a charger and a couple of rechargeable AA batteries to rotate if you use it at home a lot. I wish I had done this much sooner than I did to be ... MoreGreat mouse. Great wireless mouse choice even in 2019

I almost gave up on wireless Microsoft mice until I got this one. Very nice & solid design with rubber for thumb & pinky, a usb thimble that's well concealed when plugged in, clicking is surprisingly quiet, scrolling wheel is butter-smooth without clicks (a turn-off for some people). The usb thimble included software can customize which buttons do what (eg configure for left hand). The mouse curve isn't too flat which is good for extended use without much fatigue. The mouse's weight is kinda hefty for its size, good IMO. My favorite thing is the battery life. I use the crud out of it yet it still just keeps going and going without low battery light showing (supposedly 8 months battery life with 1 AA, but not sure if true). The pro's far outweigh the con's, and if this one breaks for any reason, I'll definitely get another.

I oiled the wheel

This is probably my 3rd or 4th 4000 (mouse) , the wheels lose the rubber right away usually , when the rubber fails you can still use the wheel. This latest one I received 6 18 15 had wheel trouble after 15 min of use, it was sticky , stop lurch , stick , ick.....I realized I might ruin it by oiling it but it was terrible, so I took it apart (youtube video shows the hidden screw, bottom side under the peal off back rubber bumper, it re-attaches easily when done). I used some Bearing oil , not 3 in 1 or wd40 but actual bearing oil like the oil you'd use on radio controlled racing cars. I didn't have to take out the wheel, it doesn't really come out, it is deceptive how it operates until you look closely. I very sparingly added a couple drops of oil where the surfaces appear to meet, spun the wheel and worked it back and forth, it didn't seem like it was doing much of anything at first, but after a couple more drops and spinning about, it freed up, has been working flawlessly and smoothly ever since. I'm definitely not recommending you try this, I feel like I could have ruined it, perhaps I got lucky, and the oil only got where it needed to be. I could buy a different mouse, but this design has worked so well for me that I can't imagine using anything else. Don't forget , if the rubber fully jams and you have to clip it off and remove it the wheel will still last for years, like my last one, in fact it still works, just that the right click micro switch has gotten really evil, and un reliable, after many 1000's of hours of use, actually a great value imo.....

Middle-click to open new tabs a lot? Get the 3500.

Internet browsing: Scroll wheel middle-click button on this 4000 mouse is irritating and impractical. When I try to middle-click on a link (to open it in a new tab), the wheel is SO sensitive that I'll sometimes unintentionally scroll up/down the page - thereby making me miss the link I was trying to middle-click on. The 3500 has a lot more intentional scrolling.Windows Photo Viewer: The 4000 mouse can't scroll properly at all on the old but amazing Windows Photo Viewer. This is the main reason I had to go with the Microsoft 3500 mouse instead.Why doesn't JB HI-FI stock the 3500 anymore?? 4000 is super cool and sleek but with major downfalls.

Nice but I need to find a better mouse

These are great mice for 2 reasons: they are small and fit in hand nicely; they have a side button on left which functions as a back button when in browsers or file menus. The 2 negatives: the wheel is covered in rubber which degrades around the 1 yr mark. It's sticky and the old rubber bits break apart basically ruining the mouse. Microsoft will replace it for free within 1 yr. The other option is to cut the rubber off before it degrades. Also the transmitter isn't that strong so you lose control if the batter is weak or you hold the mouse an arm length away from laptop. I've gone through 5 mice in 5 yrs so it's high time I find another.

Nice light mouse

I've tried many different models of mouse but have settled on Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 for my iMac desktops. Nice light smooth pointer movement and wheel scrolling. I program (using SteerMouse) the side and center buttons to do functions that I repeat hundreds of time a day. Couldn't work without it. Only problem is that, after about a year of heavy usage, the wheel rubber starts to get gummy.

Perfect size, comfortable

I've been using my first MS 4000 mouse for the last 10 or so years. It works well and is convenient. The size is just right, the battery lasts for a decent amount of time. I needed another mouse for another location and sought out the MS 4000 again because it has been such a dependable workhorse.

Very comfortable, good sensor, sexy, just need to remove wheel rubber

I've been using 1 of these mice for a few years now and bought a second 1 for another computer a while ago, with only 1 problem with both, and it is a common problem for this model. the rubber on the mouse wheel starts to make it hard to turn the wheel or starts to come off the wheel if I remember correctly, like the glue was giving up. You have to simply cut the rubber perpendicular and then pull the length out of the mouse and you are left with a mouse wheel without rubber, but still very easy to use. In fact I kind of prefer it this way. The plastic wheel still protrudes perfectly to use without the rubber. Been over a year with the rubber cut out, still works great. A third mouse I bought recently on eBay, sometimes the left click does not register even though the button physically makes the clicking feeling/sound. No big deal. You get lemons sometimes. I put it in my e-junk pile. Overall this product is very reliable unless you get a lemon. Comfortable on my medium sized hands. Glides very smooth. Can kind of works on glass sometimes even though it isn't a fancy DarkField Logitech. The soundvolume of the clicks are about normal, with my well worn mouse being quieter than the newer one. Though I do not remember if the worn mouse was louder when new, or has always been quieter. Battery life is a good 2-3 months on my so-so NiMH rechargeables. Just fine and I use my mouse an awful lot. GREAT value for money. I don't why anybody would save a few bucks and get a 3000 or 1000 when 4000 is maybe a couple bucks more??

perfect small format mouse

nice contour for the hand .easy to use 3 button with center wheel . just the right weight and easy to change battery . the unit has built in storage for the Bluetooth usb receiver. the blue tracking eye works flawlessly . the unit arrived with a AA battery . was found by windows and all drivers loaded as soon as we installed the usb Bluetooth adapter and turned the unit on. perfect finish and very will designed . nice there a on /off switch on the bottom to save battery life when not in use. this mouse works perfect for me as we use it on are laptop computer and easy to store in are case when on the road .
