Got this shoes a month ago and was sold on the weight of the pair. Definitely lightweight and comfortable. The cushion is good. Wish it had a little bit more arch support. Tested it downhill as it is the most important for me. Unfortunately, the opening is too wide and can only tighten so much and I have skinny legs so my foot slides to the front going downhill. I added insoles and it seems to work fine but it makes the shoe stiffer. I will see how it holds up on a 20 mile hike. Will definitley change the laces. They feel thin. Maybe Merrell should add more eyelets up on top to support the foot more and have that option than not.

Lemme just say I’m 57 and 200lbs at 5’3”. I also have a protruding bunion on my right foot hence the wide width. (See more at bottom regarding width) That being said, I just hiked Mt. Madison (4000+) in the White Mts, NH. It was rainy and a very wet, steep, very rocky trail. These boots were relatively new, but I beat the crap out of them on this hike. My feet were dry except my own foot perspiration, not much. They are super comfy and light. They have a rock plate but not super stiff like some soles. Not slippery on wet rocks at all! I can’t wait to see how they endure. I have nothing but positive things to say. Thanks, Merrell!!Re:width. I bought a regular width at a different store and they were hurting my bunion. I didn’t want to bite the bullet on the merrell ... MoreLemme just say I’m 57 and 200lbs at 5’3”. I also have a protruding bunion on my right foot hence the wide width. I finally did because the regs weren’t working. I compared them inside my house only because return policy, and I noticed only a slight difference in the width….but it was enough to accommodate my bunion.

Wore these shoes for 11 days traveling/hiking mild trails through Europe in the spring. My feet never got tired. Extremely comfortable for a light weight boot. Very helpful in keeping my feet day on a couple of rainy days.I have not worn these on any hot days. I have a second pair that are not GORE-TEX that I would probably wear during the hot summer months.

I ordered these for my planned trip to hike Tour Du Mont Blanc in Europe. I really liked the color of these and the extremely light weight. They are waterproof w/ Gore-Tex. I usually wear a men’s size 9 so bought these from REI in size 9, but they were a bit snug in the toe so returned and found a 9.5 online at Merrell. This half size up seemed to have a little too much extra room in the toe so was surprised that a half size up would have that much difference. I decided to keep them and while hiking to break them in I had to really tighten the laces to prevent my feet from sliding forward when descending. This fixed the problem. I brought these to Europe with me and really enjoyed having them. They didn’t need a lot of breaking in which was nice. I highly recommend ... MoreI ordered these for my planned trip to hike Tour Du Mont Blanc in Europe. I really liked the color of these and the extremely light weight. They are waterproof w/ Gore-Tex. Great quality, good looking and that Merrell out of box comfort (no break in)Hopefully it will stand the test of time!Good for pretty much anything.I have narrow feet, and the US 9 fits perfect for length, I did need to lace it narrower for width and I find their is a little excess material on the upper space around my toes, but it is not a major issue as I have never found ahving the shoes laced up tighter like this has caused wear on my classic moab mid gtx, moab tac gtx or moab response.I have found the lace hooks have caught on the odd thing once or twice, something to keep in mind.
So I bought this hike shoe to use for havasupai falls and at first, it was so comfortable (before the hike). Used them for my training hikes and it was ok. Would like to have a little bit more arch support but i understand that everyone is different. After my 20 mile hike in rough terrain, I had to return them. My feet were so sore and fatigued as I felt every rock I stepped onto. I am definitely not on the light side. I changed the insole and didn’t help at all. In fact, the replacement insole created a better barrier with the terrain than the original insoles. Foot pain to the max after I reached the hilltop.
Was very excited to get a hold of these. Big let down. Both boots are starting to come apart on each side of where the upper meets the sole. Both on the inside and outside of the boot. Same sections on each boot. Design flaw. Can see debris and water eventually making the way into the boot and glue continuing to separate with more use. Only a few weeks of use!Going to send back.
I got these mid boots because I liked everything about my existing Merrell Moab 3 (J035785 size UK 9) mid boots except that in wet conditions the Vibram TC5+ outsoles (photo) trapped small stones and took ~15 minutes to clean. After a lot of online research and trying on Grisport Quatro (too narrow at the ball of the foot) I ordered these Moab Speed 2 Mid Gortex (J037501 size UK 9). The tongue and top are not as heavily padded as the Moab 3's. Otherwise they are equally comfortable. I don't like the thin flat laces as well as the Moab 3's thicker round ones. The soles are more open, without the Moab 3's fine grooves which trap small stones (photo).
I am not going to comment on the comfort of these shoes because I purchased a size too small for me. I cannot blame the shoe for my mistake. However, I can say that within 3 months of light use, the sole started to separate from the shoe’s body on both shoes. Now less than 6 months after purchasing one of the eyelets broke. This is all on light use in the office. These boots have never been on a dirt trail. Very disappointed in these boots. These have been the only Merrell boots that have not been superb.
Tried these out in a wide size, and I find the feel underfoot to be BETTER than the Moab 3. My feet supinate mildly, so I need footwear that provides lateral support in the heel and mid foot. The Moab 3 basically has the same shape to the midsole under the heel that has been used in past versions, and my main gripe there is that if you look at the shape of the foam under the heel, looking at it from the back of the shoe, you notice that the foam tapers in toward the heel, effectively giving the heel the look of an ice cream scoop bulging out from the foam. I can feel that in the Moab 3, with my heel and mid foot feeling like they are about to pour over the outside edge of the midsole (yes, even with custom orthotics). I can feel that in the Moab 3, with my heel and mid foot feeling like they are about to pour over the outside edge of the midsole (yes, even with custom orthotics). I have always thought that the regular Moab styles would benefit from a more stable heel, with that midsole foam being wider under the heel and effectively coming up around the "bulb" of the heel to afford that stability. By appearances, this is exactly what the Speed 2 beings to the table. In fact, the promotional materials for the style, when it first came out, had a picture of the boot from the rear, showing the more stable heel, with the text of, "Comfort: 30% Increase in foam underfoot." More importantly, that 30% increase is exactly where I needed it. I know that the Moab 3 is a different segment, but the benefit of the extra foam in the Speed 2 for lateral support in the heel and mid foot, is exactly what Merrell should be building into their Moab 4. I think the only thing I could ask for more with this shoe is an even firmer plate underfoot, maybe nylon or carbon fiber (perhaps that'd be the Moab 4?). In short, FINALLY, a wide-size Moab with a wider base for proper lateral support in the heel and mid foot!
