3 Big Time Pros for Those Like Me1. I have low ankle bones so finding sneakers that do not rub against them, that aren't a low support sneaker like a pair of Vans, is very difficult. The New Balance 600 line sits nicely just below the ankle bone. Even when playing Tennis or Pickleball, there's no rubbing against it.2. As mentioned above, for a low top they have excellent ankle support and my confidence in that is huge. I love playing Pickleball and Tennis but have peripheral neuropathy, so the note "feeling" my foot affect at times requires me to be very confident in any footwears support.3. I beat the living bleep out of them and they don't come apart. For a modern day design and manufactured shoe they last as long as the tread on them does. When given a choice between Nike Air Monarch Monarch, Nike Air Max 90 Leather, and New Balance 608, I recommend staying away from the 'Monarch Squeak.' With a choice between the 90 and 608, I could purchase 2 pairs of 608s for the price of the 90. So I purchased 2 pairs of 608s. The 608 had a great fit for my foot, and thought I made great choice for a 'dad's shoe.' In rotating wear of the 608 on one day, the 90 on the next day, and the Monarch on occasion, I found the 608 to be more comfortable than either Nike. However after several months of wear, the tread of the 608 is separating from the sole. When looking at the 'spare purchase' made, I don't see anything that stands out as a defect on the 608 still in the box. But now second guessing my choice, and what's ... MoreWhen given a choice between Nike Air Monarch Monarch, Nike Air Max 90 Leather, and New Balance 608, I recommend staying away from the 'Monarch Squeak.' Giving 1 star out of 5 due to tread separation on the 608 for not lasting long where the shoe isn't worn on a daily basis and 'light use.'

Great shoe, fits perfect and very comfortable. This shoe needs moreventilation, the little tiny holes are not doing the job. I don't run or walk long distances in them but because they have leather uppers, your feet will get hot and even perspire. You need to put two or three eyelets in the shoe below the arch. I've made that suggestion several times over the past two years but nothing has changed. Otherwise, it's a great shoe. I have 4 pairs now and just ordered one more.

Very stable walking shoes, that are true to size. I purchased these after years of wearing NB running shoes, and as I ease into my 60s with white hair, I thought these were the answer to a few niggling feet issues. Well, these are not the answer, at least for me. The soles do not conform, or even bend very freely. They make walking laborious, as though I have a board attached to the bottom of the shoes. so, if you or someone you are very close to has serious stability issues, then these are the shoes for that person. Inners are very comfortable. If standing is difficult, or taking steps seems precarious, then these are the ticket. Until that point is reached however, look for something more flexible.
I always bought New Balance because they were one of the few brands that made shoes wide enough for my admittedly unusually wide feet. I loyally bought from them for decades. Then one day they decided to stop making their "extra wide" sizes. Which I'm very sad about but understand. However, they did this WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE. They just redefined "extra wide" to be narrower and didn't inform customers. Which resulted in me buying 2 pairs of the exact same shoes I had already bought several times across the years... super confused at wide they now didn't fit. I ended up wasting a ton of time and eating significant money in return fees for something that is not my fault. I went from being a loyal customer to an aggravated and extremely dissapointed one.
New Balance is doing the same thing Coca Cola did years ago with the "New Coke". They presented it as better, when in fact it was worse!! Coke finally got rid of the New Coke and went back to what was working before. New Balance should do the same, and go back to making the 608 cross trainers 2017 and before with comfortable soles and inserts using the materials they did then, instead of the materials they are using now. They are presenting the new inserts and soles as better, when in fact they are worse, hard as rocks soles and inserts that cannot make up the difference. My feet hurt now. It only took three days for the hard soles to bring back plantar faciitus that had been gone for 20 years. PLEASE go back to 2017 and before materials. I ordered new balance 608 shoes online and when I opened the package I noticed mud on the bottom of the shoes. Not only that but there were no insoles in the shoes! I returned them to the store. The employees at the store were great. They apologized for the bad online experience I had and credited my credit card for the amount I paid! They also gave me a $5.00 coupon to use on my next purchase. I wish academy stores kept a better selection of new balance shoes in size 13 EEEE. I use to be able to buy all my shoes at the academy store but no longer can! They just don’t have a good selection of shoes in my size at the store anymore. I will try to reorder these again online and hopefully have a better experience!
The 608 cross trainers 2018 and before were wonderful. I was a gym owner for 14 years. and wore them all the time. Also played racquetball and did wind sprints in them. SINCE 2018 the new Versions ( I bought some in 2023 after the last 8 pair wore out) are TERRIBLE with hard soles and thin inserts. My Plantar Faciitis that had been gone for 20 years came back in 3 days. I am now searching for new shoes. I would like to see New Balance go back to making them the way they did 2018 and before when made in Indonesia. The huge and game changing difference is that if you took out the insert on the earlier shoes I wore and pushed you thumb into the sole, it had some give to it. If you take out the insert with the Version 5 shoes I received on my last order and push on the sole it is a STONE HARD mesh and the insert does not make up the difference, ever the latest thicker inserts. The shoe still feel way harder that even the worn down ones pre 2018 that I still have. They really need to change back to the materials for the sole they were using before 2018. Most of mine were 2017's and one 2018 of my last 8 shoes. There are many similar replies on the New Balance site if you go to the one and two star reviews.
I've had 2 pair of these and had to replace them for the same reason each time. After about 8 months of wearing them the very cheap and sparse amount of glue they use to glue the top to the bottom releases and causes the rubber soles to literally fall off! This is also a very heavy shoe and because it doesn't have any mesh, there is zero breathability for your feet which creates a perfect breeding ground for foot 🦶fungus! When you first get them, they are comfy but then they give you swamp foot 🦶 and the soles fall off! The only way to fix them is to take out the insoles and and take short sheet metal screws to attach the top to the bottom. I have been wearing New Balance for years, but am giving this shoe one star solely due to the shoelace length: after the shoe has been fully laced and used a couple times, each side of the lace (before tying the shoe) is ridiculously long - like 17" on each side of the lace. I have to knot it three times to keep from tripping (i.e., to keep the laces and/or the loops, after the laces are tied, from flopping under the shoes) or from getting stuck in the grooves of an escalator. The length is a safety hazard, and at some point, if not already, I suspect someone is going to seriously hurt themselves and hopefully sue New Balance. I called customer service about getting new laces, and the agent was basically indifferent. Just buy new laces is what the agent told me. The length is a safety hazard, and at some point, if not already, I suspect someone is going to seriously hurt themselves and hopefully sue New Balance. I called customer service about getting new laces, and the agent was basically indifferent. Just buy new laces is what the agent told me. So, when you look at the price of this shoe, be sure either to add another $5-$7 (based on prices I've seen) to replace the laces, or to knot the laces 3 times. I realize this review is harsh, but I was unable to find an email address for submitting concerns like this to NB and, as I said, the customer service agent was basically indifferent. So this is the only way to put New Balance and its customers on notice of this problem.
