I bought a pair to do an off-road triathlon with my 170 mm travel 29er enduro bike. They're supposed to be fast rolling and they seemed like it compared to my DHFs, although I didn't do any time comparisons. I felt reasonably fast in the triathlon for riding a massive enduro bike. I was worried about the grip but it was great in dry conditions. In dry single track, rocks, wood work, roots, and gravel it climbed and cornered and braked as well as the DHFs. Only in loose, fresh loam did I notice it slide out more in turns compared to the DHF on the front. I ride mostly Seymour, Fromme and other coastal locations. I kept the Ikon on the rear for the summer but will probably put the DHF back on for the wet season.

I've used these tires for almost 2000 miles and only ever gotten 1 flat. They have great tread and corner fantastic, and I find them to be the perfect choice for XC racing due to how fast they roll. Previously I ran a Maxxis Minion in the front for my XC setup, and when I put the Ikons on I just started flying. By far the best tire you can choose (there's a reason you see them at every XC race and on almost every XC podium). My only gripe is that they don't do well in the mud, but if you're in the high desert of the rocky mountains like I am (a.k.a. super duper dry conditions) these work great. If you are on the more wet side of things, I've heard great things about the Maxxis Aspens and I've seen them do well firsthand, so likely another good pick.

The Ikon is a standard in the XC tire world. The narrow casings roll fast and get the job done but to me the Ikon 2.35 is the absolute bees-knees.The 2.35 width opens up beautifully for lots of volume and also scales up the knob structure just enough to punch pretty far into the trail bike category. Pairs well as a rear with something larger up front or pushes dirt like a king as a front on your cross-stuntry maching.

Running a 26 x 2.2 Ikon EXO tubeless as a rear tire on a 1998 Ibis Mojo.Really impressed by what this tire can do/handle. Dirt, gravel, sand, asphalt, moderately rocky/rooty, etc. Moderate/technical punchy climbs. Midwest trails: Wisconsin, Michigan, etc. It can get overwhelmed when things get rocky for sustained periods with sustained high grade climbs. But it's an XC tire so it gets a pass. It's fast and very grippy as another reviewer mentioned the grip on such a low profile tread is pretty insane. Can confirm.
This is the second pair i bought. 1st one was a 27.5, this time a 29er for my second bike. A bit noisier than the 2.20 width, but traction and cornering is much better with this 2.35. I use this for my daily and recreational rides, mostly on pavement roads, and it rolls terrific, and does not wear quickly. I trust this tires and will most probably purchase this model again ones my other ones wear out.
I wanted something I could use for mainly gravel and light trail riding and still rolled fast enough on the road to get to the trailhead. This tire is definitely a good all-rounder in that category. I appreciate the added traction over most gravel tires and seems to work well on XC trails, but I'm not about to go rail any corners with them.
So far so good on a rigid single speed 29" as a rear tire. Hard pack, loose dry sand and BB's to rocky AZ desert conditions. With the reinforced sidewalls I'm running a max of 16ish psi. Great traction and speed. Using it on combo with a Rekon up front. Nice combination of tires.
Very fast rolling. This is obviously not going to grip like a downhill tire but the grip it has seems consistent as you lean into turns. Wanted a high volume fast roller for mellower desert riding with a lot of sand washes. The 2.35 Ikon fits the bill, plus it’s light. 26” offerings are limited so I’m happy to have found this good of a tire to keep an old Titus Switchblade cruising.
This tire is so fast!! Wonderful for climbs and flats. A little sketchy in fast corners, but you can't have all the grip with an XC tire. Have hit some very rough rock gardens and the tires have held up really well, no punctures on even the roughest sharp rocks.Have been using for front and rear, but will probably switch to a knobbier front for more grip. This tire on the front washes out on looser pack surfaces in the turns at speed which can be a bit sketchy-- but let's be real you're not buying XC tires for downhill or enduro :p
Well, I bought a couple of ikons on Amazon, a few months back, and didn’t install them right away. By the time I did, my chance to return them had expired. The front tire… A 29 x 2.2… Was defective. At first, I thought it was my front wheel that needed trueing… But when I took it to the bike shop, they said that it was a defective tire. something is wrong with the casing. The tire was also blowing off the rim and spraying sealant everywhere, at only 28 psi. Convinced that ikons, have a great reputation, I went ahead and purchased another front tire directly from Maxxis. Glad I did, because it’s perfect and I love the tires. I’m stuck with a brand new $90 front tire that’s defective, though. I spent almost $300 to get two tires. For that, I’m not happy.
